I’ve been collecting buttons for years and did a couple of art projects with them. They are very amateurish but I wanted to share

I bought three bags of buttons at my local thrift store, for (I think like) €5 total (= $5.85). Some buttons are pretty old I think.

Which ones do you like most? And can anyone tell me something about some of them, like material or usage?

Just a quick glimpse! I had to reorganize my closet and I decided to pull out my buttons and beads (that'll be later). I used to sew a *lot*, but nothing that required me to use buttons. It was just an excuse so I could feed my button addiction. "Well, I'm in the fabric store...might as well get some buttons!!!".❣️🤣😜

The last two photos are of a baggie my mom had stashed in her sewing machine of some of her buttons (she's still alive ❤️) and her grandmother's buttons (the ones in the manilla envelope). I *ABSOUTELY* stole them from her with ZERO shame 🤪. But she knew about it because I told her LOL.

I do intend to sort them to get an inventory on them, so I'll have better pictures soon and an official count. If I don't mess up! I also have one more place to look where I think I may have some loose ones stashed.

These are my buttons so far! I’ve only been collecting for about a month now. Some are actually buckles and pins but oh well lolol. I have them organized in this order : pic 2 is shell (MOP abalone etc) pic 3 is just miscellaneous (scarf clips and other odds and ends) pic 4 top row is large metal, middle row is buckles and bottom row is plastic. Last pic top row is small metal, middle row is embellished metal, and bottom row is glass (also clear plastic). I’m not sure if any of these are worth anything but I just love the way they look! Most of them will be used on clothing but some are just too special. Lolol.

Found several of these about 30 years ago at a site where a house burnt down in the 1970s using a Whites Spectrum Eagle. They were about 6 inches down. Backside reads, "American Button Co. Newark NJ". This company manufactered US military uniform buttons during WWI. I sold all but this one on the bay 25 years ago. They are slightly bigger than a US quarter.

These 3 buttons are all uniquely different from each other.

I like the gold tone square buttons pointed pattern.

The green oval button has 2 holes on each side and that is the first time I have seen that.

The metal round one with the fake diamonds looks exquisite. It looks like it came from a woman’s jacket but that is just speculation on my part.

Some of these I've thrifted, some were my grandmothers and my great grandmothers and maybe my great great grandmothers. I wanted to be able to find them easier, so I put them in little jars instead of the big cookie tins they've been in.

Found these buttons in a jar of buttons my grandmother got from an estate sale a while ago. They dont have any identifying markings on them as far as material goes, but the rim material looks gold, the inlay and eyelet (they are the same piece) seem to be a bronze? But I am not sure of either one. There are also gems of some sort on the outer ring. Also unsure of thier composition, but they seem to look like diamonds.

I have tried looking them up but cannot find anything that matches. If anyone has any information on what these buttons might be or where I can get more info, I would appreciate any help!

Thank you in advance!
