Differences between Bravia 8 OLED and Bravia 9 mini LED?
Currently have 65’ Bravia 8 and am looking to upgrade to a larger size. I just adore the current picture of the Bravia 8. What are the differences ?

Hello. I'm hesitating between the B8 and the B8II. The B8II is €800 more expensive. The B8 costs €1500 and the B8II costs €2300. I watch SD, (720-4k) HD, 4k as well as streaming. I watch TV both during the day and at night, and it's important that there is no lack of brightness while watching during the day. I've read a few comments from users who have the B8, and even when watching during the day they are satisfied with the brightness. HDR content is not that important to me. I currently have the XE9005, so I'm wondering how much brighter it is than the B8? Is the difference significant or small? And the second question is, is the B8II worth €800 more? If any of you have had both TVs, could you write your impressions? Thanks
I know one is OLED and one is Mini- LED, but my main concerns are daytime brightness, reflections, and burn in. My current TV is a 2017 XBR-55X900E and is plenty bright even during the day, I cant find info on if the B8 is brighter, which would answer my question on daytime viewing. Main uses will be ps5 gaming and streaming. Room doesnt get any direct light during the day but still has an overall pretty bright ambience. My current TV has lasted almost 10 years and is still going strong, so longevity is something that id like to consider too (although I know no one can predict how long a particular tv will last). TIA
I’m looking to buy a new 85” TV. Is current series 7 and 9 latest or worth waiting a couple of months for new models?
So my x950h was the flagship tv in 2020. It’s held up very well despite a scratch from one of my kids and a trapped dust particle (pictured) that you can only see on bright scenes. Despite some of the drawbacks with this dated tech I don’t see any blooming or contrast or color issues.
I’ve been eyeing the Bravia 9 for some time now - it seems to be the natural upgrade from this TV. Should I just pull the trigger or wait for the refresh from Sony. It’s a 2 year old model.
I have had this tv for a week. I am just not impressed. For the price i dont feel like it looks MUCH better that my lg i replaced. The clarity and colors just dont looks great to me when streaming. I am considering returning it to get the lg C5. Is that crazy?
So the last time I bought a TV was probably 10 years ago and I didn’t really pay much more attention than that it said “4K” and wasn’t too expensive. It’s a Samsung something, I don’t really know. It’s 55”.
I decided to finally upgrade and went down the research rabbit hole this time and landed on the Bravia 8 ii, in theory, before ever actually seeing anything in person. I was mainly just looking for good picture quality for watching movies in a dark room, maybe some video games as well. Leading competition was LG G5, but I was also considering if Mini LED would be good enough considering it would still probably be a big upgrade compared to what I already had, and if I was just getting too worked up about specs and reviews.
I went to Best Buy today to check them out in person and the first thing that immediately stood out to me was that OLED was clearly way better looking than Mini LED, ok immediately crossed that off the list and went to comparing OLEDs.
I ended up getting someone who actually just worked for LG masquerading as a sales rep, who went straight to their models. They looked very good, the C5 honestly seemed almost indistinguishable from the higher tier G5 and the pricing was attractive. When I went to look at the Sony models though there was just something about them that seemed more natural or warm maybe compared to the LGs, like the LGs were a bit brighter maybe but also just more clinical or something. When I told the guy I was interested in the Bravia he said he was “surprised” and went on a long rant about how QD-OLED is actually not actually worse compared to WOLED, and how Sony just buys panels and uses software (Google) from other manufacturers and doesn’t even make their own and listing off a bunch of ratings lists and stuff with LG at the top.
Anyways I stuck to my gut base on what looked best to me and got the Bravia 8 ii 65”. I just set it up and the first thing that popped up in the app was a recommendation for Inception on Prime and I was like ok sure. I just accepted the default Prime auto calibration or whatever and my god it looks fucking incredible. I’m exited to try out some of the Sony Core stuff that is supposed to be really high quality and I feel like I should now get an actual Blue-ray player and movies, considering a PS5 for this purpose as well as games (also haven’t bought a console in like 10 years)
I’m not a pro on TVs, I bought a Bravia 8-9 years ago and I was super content with it. Now after all these years I bought two new Bravias, one 45’ 3 and 55’ 8II.
I love how Sony puts two remotes, one fancy and one with all the buttons one would ever need. (I did love the remote of my old Bravia though). In this day and age when corporations try to cut costs Sony gives you two remotes!
Not sure how things are elsewhere but in Europe you can pretty much disable every single custom setting and limit pretty much most of the data you share. Sony respects that and even gives you warnings when setting up the TV and what data you’re about to share and what impact it will have. I love that, I feel respected as a consumer.
I also love how my TVs don’t have ads. Again not sure if all android TVs have that but I can set the TV to apps only mode and just like that Google and all its trash disappear from my Home Screen.
Overall I commit to Bravia all these years because of the quality and Sony’s customers treatment. you hear all these things about Samsung, ads and all those but with Bravia all these issues appear foreign.
I’m currently using a Sony X75WL with a Q990D, and I’ve been looking to upgrade. I went into Currys hoping to see the Bravia 9, but they only had the **Bravia 8 II** on display.
They also showed me the LG G5 and the Samsung S95F. To be honest, the Bravia 8 II felt a little dull to me. I’m a huge Sony fan and I usually stick to Cinema mode (not a fan of Vivid at all), but I just wasn't "blown away" like I expected to be. The G5 actually looked better to my eyes in the store.
I’d love to stay with Sony, but now I’m second-guessing. Is it likely just the store’s lighting and settings making the Sony look flat, or is the gap between these sets actually that noticeable?
My 75” B9 is on its way and would like to get the most out of the TV when it arrives. It will be wall mounted in our bright living room and will mostly be used for streaming and occasionally sports. Any advice on settings and accessories (e.g specific soundbar, Apple TV, any specific HDMI cables, picture and sound settings)?
Thanks!
I've had a 65" Sony Bravia TV for probably eight years now and am looking to upgrade. Ive always wanted a OLED TV but just never pulled the trigger. Im looking at the A95L 77" or the Bravia 9 85" It will be used in a well-lit room with lots of natural light, but will not get any sunlight shining directly onto the screen. Use cases would be for everyday TV shows, movies, sports, and PS5 gaming. So, would it be a good time to buy now, and what would be the best recommendations? Just to add, I am from the UK and the prices are around £3,999 for the A95L 77" and the Bravia9 85" is £3,499, but I wasn't sure if a 2024/2023 TV would have better competition in 2026.
Any help with this would be much appreciated.
Trying to find some awesome titles that would flex the TVs capabilities
Hey, looking for a 55 inch, budget is limited, found these as the cheapest Sony OLEDs. XR-55A80L vs K55XR8AB.CEI, any idea which one is better? I believe the A80L is 2023, and the R8AB.CEI is 2024.
Hey All,
EDIT: I mixed up my model type, though it shouldn’t change the diagnosis, it’s actually an A9G
I turned on my 77” Master Series (A95L) to see this lovely phenomenon happening with the display.
I managed to fumble my way through the menus to reset it, and then apply the most recent firmware update.
This didn’t immediately fix it, but after a few reboots and some time, it flickered and flashed and came back to life. This was unfortunately short lived (a few episodes of whatever show), and it’s back like this.
I am assuming it’s pooched, but hoping some of you fine folks may hold the secret to bringing this thing back from the dead.
Hello.
Guys, I need some opinions.
I have a Sony (9 years old) XE9005 55" and I'm thinking about switching to miniled or oled..
Sony B9 (five years warranty) 65" 2700€, Sony B8II (two years warranty) 2300€, Sony B8 (two years warranty) 1500€ with discount.
About three weeks ago I was in a store and I was looking at OLED TVs with a 4k demo playing. There were B8 65" and B8II 55" side by side. At first glance, the picture is nicer on the B8II and a little brighter, but not significantly brighter than the B8. However, the black was deeper on the B8 compared to the B8II.. I asked the salesman if he could adjust the brightness, he said he couldn't, that's how everything was set (probably at the factory or whatever.)
Now, I'll mostly be watching SD TV channels (720-1080p) as well as 4k movies and some sport. I rarely watched HDR movies on the XE9005.
It's not an option for me to lower the blinds on the windows in my room if I want to watch TV.
I read the comments for the B9 and only find praise, but the question is, is the B9 worth €2700 when you can buy a better TV (B8II) for €400 less?
Would it be logical to switch from fald lcd tv to oled or not? Oled should be the next big thing, but it doesn't seem that way to me, since miniLED is still recommended alongside excellent OLED TVs.. Everyone says OLED, OLED, but it seems that the situation is not clear when miniLED is still recommended. I haven't had a chance to see the B9 but they say it's 95% OLED.
Wanted: Sony BluRay player supporting Bravia controls
Hello,
I’m looking for recent models (2025 or 2026) of Sony BluRay players that support the HDMI passthrough of Bravia controls through and with my Sony Bravia TV using the Sony Bravia TV remote control. I’m hoping this helps the remote control functionality and interoperability versus the old Panasonic BluRay player that I have now.
Thank you.
The date the nondisclosure ends was spilled in a livestream day before yesterday. It was May 27th. The comment has been edited out now.
Anyway, that sounded legit.
Hi, I'm planning to buy the B5 model. I'm wondering if Sony has resolved the dust problem under the sensor? Or is it still a problem?
I recently bought a Bravia 8 65" to replace the 65" Vizio I had.
The Vizio had a connected surround sound system with a sound bar under the tv and then a sub at the back of the room behind couches on the ground and two small speakers at the back of the room at ceiling level behind the couches. It made for a really good system to fully immerse you in the sound.
When I mounted the Bravia and connected the Vizio sound system to it, I immediately realized that the rear speakers weren't working and that the TV sounded much better than the Vizio sound bar, so I've disconnected the sound system and just have the tv itself, which sounds great especially with the native acoustic surface tech....but I miss having sound behind me like I did with the Vizio surround sound system.
Can anyone help me understand the best way to optimize a surround sound system for this tv? I'd like to be able to take advantage of the TV's acoustic capabilities, but add back in speakers behind me to get surround.
I'd prefer not to spend more than the tv itself, but also want to understand the best way to go about this.
Appreciate any help in advance, thanks
My X93L is giving off a high-frequency tone that correlates with HDR scene brightness
Playing Far Cry 5 in HDR at volume 1 (kid and wife sleeping). I can clearly hear a high-frequency tone from the TV that scales with on-screen luminance, it’s quiet in dark scenes, loud and obvious when I pan to the sun or a bright sky. The correlation is 1:1 with brightness.
I also hear it when the TV is in standby mode but it’s “minimal” I guess.
Sounds like coil whine from the backlight driver / local dimming circuit to me.
Two questions:
Room is dead quiet when I notice it; inaudible over normal game audio.
