Visited Baku, loved every bit of it 🇦🇿 have a few questions for locals!
I visited Baku last week for a 5-day trip, and I absolutely loved the vibe, nightlife, and how well-dressed people are almost all the time. It genuinely felt like a very stylish and lively city.
There are a few things I’m curious about though:
On my way to Shahdag Mountain Resort, I noticed many billboards featuring pictures of children. Due to the language barrier, I couldn’t understand what they were about, does anyone know what those campaigns represent?
I’m also wondering about the average salary in Baku. What do people typically earn on a monthly basis? From an outsider’s perspective, the lifestyle seems quite premium, luxury cars, people always dressed well even for casual outings like groceries or shopping, so I’m curious how that aligns with the average income.
Another observation I made (and I could be wrong) is that most of the people I saw seemed to be under 30. Almost every time I was out, I mainly noticed people in their 20s or early 30s, and rarely anyone aged 50+. Is there a reason for that, or was it just my experience?
One thing I really appreciated was how well-organized the city is. Every road, building, and even the trees along the streets look like they’ve been thoughtfully planned to enhance the overall aesthetic.
Lastly, I noticed that people generally don’t speak loudly. Even in crowded places where groups are hanging out, conversations are surprisingly calm and quiet.
Would love to hear insights from locals or anyone familiar with the city!
Azərbaycanda DNS barədə
Millət, sizdə də Google/Cloudflare/AdGuard DNS-ləri işləmir? Sanki, AzTelekom/BakTelekom tərəfindən hər hansı DNS varsa bloklanıb, təkcə Quad9 işləyir, o da zəifdir. Yəni ByeDPI olmadan heç biri ümumiyyətlə işləmir – nə telefonda, nə də kompüterdə.
Azərbaycanda kim, nəyə görə polis olmaq istəyər?
Hamınız bildiyi kimi, azərbaycan polisi digər ölkələrdəki polislərə nəzərən biraz "fərqlidir". Xarakter məsələsidir. Bəs bu söhbət hər açılanda "yaxşısı da var, pisi də" deyən həmin o yaxşı polis, vəzifəsinin öz milləti tərəfindən xoş qarşılanmadığını bilə-bilə niyə bu sənəti seçir. Və bu şəxslərin ətrafındakı insanlarla gündəlik sosial əlaqələri necə olur?
Genuine question about the Azerbaijan-Armenia conflict
I'm from Canada with some Armenian roots from my dad's side of the family, so naturally I found interest in this conflict that has kinda been under the radar in global news and politics. When I first started looking into this whole thing, naturally I had my biases towards Armenia, but I'm someone who respects people no matter where they're from, and I'm also someone who respects the truth above all else. I know that there is a lot of false information being spread from both sides, and both sides have done some terrible things in this conflict, but I would like to hear from the people of Azerbaijan and your genuine views on the whole thing.
From my own research, I came to the conclusion that the majority of this conflict can be blamed on Russia (formerly the soviet-union at the time)? Please correct me if I'm wrong, and provide genuine sources for your information. I only ask for a discussion in good faith, I'm tired of seeing all the propaganda and hate against each other everywhere I look online, and I just want to see if there's a world where this conflict and hate ends, and if it's possible for both countries to become good neighbours.
Traveling to azerbaijan
Hey Folks, Mrs and me have planned a 10 day trip to Azerbaijan and starting at Baku, we would love to know nice places around Baku we can visit anything in 3-4 hour radius stay a few nights and get back to the city.
some of the we like to do. we like nature, good scenic views and we love less touristy places. we like to travel through local transport and spend our money at local cafes , local businesses and AirBnB rather than Expensive fine dine and 5* hotels.
Open to all suggestions. good outskirts spots or treks or just a nice place to enjoy good coffee and drinks.
Thank you all in advance. 🙏🏼

news.amHow is it like in Azerbaijan?
Rauf & faik brought me here. I don't speak Russian but their music is so special and touching. I also had a friend who came from there and he is a really sincere, innocent, and special guy. The place I am from disappoints me continuously. There's a lot of good in people but also this feeling like something darker gets the upper hand. and I just like learning about other places. It used to be Finland all the time but rauf & faik's songs are like my favorite music without even understanding what they say. How is it like in Azerbaijan?

Vibecoding
Hi, I’m wondering whether there’s anyone in Baku who’s interested in vibecoding and would like to join me in creating our own AI model. I don’t know anything about it, and you don’t need to be an expert either, but you should at least know how to vibecode.

The Embassy of the State of Israel in the Republic of Azerbaijan held a memorial ceremony in Baku on the occasion of Yom HaZikaron — Israel’s Memorial Day for fallen soldiers and victims of terror 🕯
This year, Israel remembers 25,648 people who fell in its wars and 5,313 victims of terrorist attacks.
In his remarks, Ambassador Ronen Krausz emphasized that these are not just numbers, but whole worlds — lives cut short, unrealized dreams, and families and communities who carry this pain every day.
We also remembered our colleagues who lost their lives while serving the State of Israel with courage and dedication on the front lines of diplomacy.
The ceremony was held with the participation of members of the Jewish-Israeli community and bereaved families.
Together, we bowed our heads in remembrance, honored their memory with respect, and expressed our hope for quieter days, peace, and a better future.
Why are most Azeri ppl (Gen-Z and uni studnets) so görməmiş and wanna be American/european?
Ever since that new fast food chain (popeyes) opened i've been seeing this behaviour more and more often. Literally since the opening day of popeyes until now there is always a line starting from the ordering booths until KFC (if you've been at cresent mall a few times you'll know what im talkjing about) people wait HOURS and HOURS for just a piece of chicken between 2 pieces of ultra processed bread. Just because its "American" it attracts thousands of people a day, even though they opened a new branch in Ganjlik mall the situation is still bad in cresent mall. you have people fighting over their position in line, you see people cutting and its just chaos. I guarantee you if it was an Azeri fast food branch no one would give 2 shits. There are literally azeri food chains (like hop daddy) which i would say are much better than the american fast food chains we have. The only way you can possiblt try popeyes without spending hours of your time waiting in line is either to go in the morning or before closing time. And even if you end up being able to order during the afternoon you wont find a spot to sit thats how bad the situation is. Oh and i almost forgot about the dippers situation. Ever since the chain opened you see people spamming in comments sections to bring the "dippers sauces" in case you didnt know what they were, they take those cups for drinking and the just fill it to the brim with sauce. thats it. and people are acting like its so revolutionary YOU DO NOT NEED A WHOLE CUP FILLED WITH SAUCE you wont even use like 5% of it and it will mold in a few days anyways so you wont be able to finish it SO WHATS THE POINT.
On the other hand if you go as our Gen-Z population and most uni students if they want to go to the US (like move there) they would start praising it so much you would think there is no better country. literally i've visited the US and its just filled with disrespectful blacks, you cant walk outside at night alone, the fast food is so bad that you just wanna vomit after 2-3 bites (canon event) and its just not that "amazing" of a place unless you're super rich and you can use all those trendy amenities
