Rest in paradise 10 sweet babies who were only 2 months old. The super pups who were all euthanized for space at BARC in Houston. 😞💔🌈🕊️

*Today in Houston, 20 lives were lost at BARC for one reason: space.*

*Mama Yuna* and her *9 neonate puppies* - Shiba Inu/Chow Chow mixes who never even got a name, never opened their eyes in a home.

*10 Super Pups* - 2-month-old Staffies, babies who should’ve been learning to play, not dying in a kennel.

They weren’t sick. They weren’t aggressive. They were out of time.

And “out of time” is what happens when we allow unchecked breeding to outpace compassion.

*I’m grieving. I’m furious. And I’m done asking nicely.*

If you’re in Houston or anywhere in the US, do this with me:

*1. Email your local politicians TODAY.*

Demand they shut down puppy mills. Demand laws that force backyard breeders to stop operating in the shadows.

*2. Make breeding a licensed, educated practice.*

If you want to breed animals, you should have to complete a college-level course and hold a degree/license in animal husbandry and welfare. No more accidental litters from people who “just wanted one litter.”

*3. Fund CVNR and subsidized spay/neuter NOW.*

Community Cat/Vet Neuter Return programs and low-cost spay/neuter for lower-income households are the only thing stopping this cycle. No funding = more dead puppies.

*4. Hold people accountable.*

If you own a pet and refuse to spay/neuter without a vet-approved reason, you should be fined $500 per unaltered pet. Enforcement is the only thing that changes behavior.

*This isn’t about hating breeders. It’s about hating dead babies.*

Mama Yuna and her 9. The 10 Super Pups. They died because we chose not to fund prevention, not to regulate breeding, not to care until it was too late.

*Don’t just “like” this and move on.*

Look up your city council member. Email them. Say their names. Make them uncomfortable until they act.

Rest easy, Mama Yuna. Rest easy, babies.

I’ll carry you with me until the laws change.

Hello,

Please let us know if you can help Snowflake, she will be in danger on 1-3-26.

📝 Shelter Notes:

12/28 Approaching her kennel she was standing by the door quietly, tail down, tensed, trembling. Walks on a tight leash pulling

forward. While outside she just looked around very alert ears forward. Walking back in she was flinchy as i was checking her

ID band. Placed her into new kennel and took leash off no issue

12/29 While Nellie was in the outside run, she was consistently vocalizing and jumping on the run gate. Overly aroused even when

she was being walked, she was walked on a tight leash and would attempt to chase come birds when treats were on the

ground for her. When she was in her run, she would sometimes yelp and cry in the run for a short time.

During PM feeding, Nellie was still being overly aroused and jumping up on the gate. As I entered the run, she started to

jump on me and paw at my stomach. I gave her treats on her cot to redirect her.

12/30 During morning feeding, Nellie was bouncing around in her run and yelping. During morning walks, she was still being overly

aroused in her run and even painted in her run. While walking, Nellie was walked on a tight leash and pulling in different

directions and while in the run, she was jumping and pawing at the gate. On the way back, she was bouncing around me

and walked on a tight leash still. I offered treats but she continued after eating the treats. She even attempted to chase

some birds.

1/1 jumping on kennel door nonstop when trying to leash she is trying to jump with mouth open towards my face. when

leashing she began to pull forward on tight leash outside she begins to whine when i walk away. coming back to go leash

her she is jumpin nonstop i have to fully step in and try to leash while she is jumping upwards.

5/18 tense body, had to muzzle during working. Growling in vehicle, foster had to bring in

💜 Volunteer Notes:

I feel like I don't even need to explain what drew me to Susana girl because LOOK AT HER! She's absolutely stunning. And add a little cropped tail that is wiggling in excitement because you just baby talked to her? Add to cart immediately. This girl walks like a dream on the leash and is so gentle and sweet. I tried to get her into the grass for pics so I could really contrast her beautiful markings for photos but she informed me that the grass was much too icky for a princess like her. Even with dirt as her background, she is absolutely stunning in her photos. We used her for multiple temp tests with other dogs because she is such a calm, even temperament. She was very excited to meet the other dogs and was so playful if they were down for that! She seems like a really fun girl who would love to join for some fun outdoor activities but would also be happy to lounge on the couch and cuddle with her humans. We love when a stunning girl also has a beautiful personality to match! I hope that this sweet girl can make it out of the shelter, she absolutely deserves that and more🤍

I tried to use treats to distract him in order to leash him up but did not work. Leashed him up and he walked out but began jumping up at me several times. I tossed down treats to distract. He followed the treats then, once in the run he was high pitched barking, crying and whining along with nonstop jumping up. As I tried to leash he tried to dart out. Once leashed I walked back to kennel using treats to prevent. Once placed in kennel he began behaving the same way.

I tried tossing treats to distract him but this time did not distract his attention. I quickly leashed and he came out of kennel jumping on me. I was able to redirect with my treats. Once we got outside to the runs he walked wiggly following the treat trail. As I tried to walk him into the run as I tried to unleash he tried to bolt out of kennel. I was able to stop him with the leash still on but still tried bolting out multiple times. As I walked away he began jumping up crying in high pitch as I walked away. Once I walked back to kennel and placed him in kennel he seemed more relax.

IN GRAVE DANGER - EUTH COMMAND

“I’m Charisma… though right now I know that name doesn’t seem to fit me. I used to be different — playful, cuddly, always pressed against my person because that’s where I felt safe. But then everything changed. My parent got sick, then lost our home, and the day we said goodbye I cried into their shirt while they cried into my fur. I didn’t understand why we couldn’t stay together. I still don’t. I just know they loved me, and I loved them, and then suddenly I was alone.

Here in the shelter I’m so scared that my whole body shakes. I hide in the corner of my kennel because it’s the only place that feels small enough to hold all my fear. When people try to take me out, I panic — my legs won’t move, my body freezes, and sometimes I thrash because I don’t know what else to do. I’m not trying to be difficult. I’m just a ten‑month‑old puppy who lost everything and doesn’t know how to be brave yet.

But underneath all this trembling is the real me — the girl who loves to cuddle, who follows her people from room to room, who gives soft kisses and wiggles when she trusts you. I’m playful with dogs I know, gentle with the people I love, and I want so badly to feel safe again. I just need time… time to decompress, time to learn the world isn’t ending, time to remember that I’m still a puppy with a whole life ahead of me.

The shelter says I’m “not acclimating,” and now I’m on the list to die. I don’t want my story to end here. I don’t want my parent — wherever they are, probably still struggling — to find out that I am gone forever. I want a quiet, patient, adult home where someone will kneel beside me, speak softly, and let me come forward when I’m ready. Someone who sees past the shaking and understands that fear is not who I am — it’s just what happened to me.

Please… I’m only ten months old. I’m healthy. I’m loving. I’m trying. I just need someone to save my life and give me the chance to become the dog my name promises.”

Experienced fosters and adopters, we need you to step up for this baby girl who did nothing wrong. She’s lost it all, the parent she loved, the home she felt safe and loved in, and now she may lose her own life. It’s unfair. MESSAGE OUR PAGE to save her life now.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only

Recommendations:
No children (under 13)
Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments:

No children (under 13): Due to Charisma's intense, fearful and shut-down behaviors, we recommend an adult-only home as she may be intimidated by children.

Place with a New Hope partner: Charisma has not acclimated well to the kennel environment and has allowed only minimal handling since intake. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.

Potential challenges:
House soiling
Resource guarding
Handling/touch sensitivity
Fearful
Anxiety
On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration

Potential challenges comments:

House soiling: Charisma is reported to have accidents on a weekly basis in her previous home. Please see the handout on House soiling.

Resource guarding: Charisma is reported to guard her food, hovering over it with a tense body. Please see the handout on resource guarding.

Handling/touch sensitivity | Fearful: Charisma has been highly fearful and shutdown during her stay in care. She moves to a corner of her kennel when handlers attempt to leash her, thrashing once leashed, and refuses to leave her kennel or walk once out. Her previous owner stated that she did not allow any form of grooming, including nail trims. And she was fearful when restrained and when her collar is grabbed. Please see handouts on Decompression period and Handling/touch sensitivity.

Anxiety: Charisma is reported to be anxious in the previuos home, but her owner did not elaborate on how this behavior manifested or if any steps were taken to modify these behaviors. If Charisma displays anxious behavior in her future home, we recommend puzzle toys, long walks, and giving her other things to focus on to alleviate her anxiety. Positive reinforcement, force-free training only should be used. Please see hadnout on generalized anxiety.

On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration: Charisma is reported to bark and growl at moving objects during walks. Please see handout on On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration.
