What do you like most about A:I

I’ll go first. I think the best thing about this game is the sound design! Every sound effect in this game has given me goosebumps!

What would you be most disappointed to see?

There’s been countless posts on here asking about what should be in the sequel, what would everyone like to see and the like.
Let’s mix things up a little today. What would you be most disappointed in seeing or encountering in Alien Isolation 2?

Bit of a crazy one that still doesn’t feel real. I’m a writer and my first book has been published today. It’s all about action horror games and features interviews with a bunch of iconic names - including the first chapter, with John!

John’s enthusiasm and honesty really sets the tone for some pretty personal stories throughout the rest of the book, which features chapters with Ken Levine, Marc Laidlaw, Maggie Robertson and many others.

It’s a dream come true for me. To round it off, John agreed to write the foreword, in which he says some immensely nice things about my work.

I figured people here might get a kick out of an in-depth, sit down chat with the great man himself. Oh, and the book features a killer jacket designed by comic book artist Ray Dillon.

‘Beyond Fear: Inside Action Horror Games’ is available online and across most countries right now, with pre-orders also happening in the US. I’d love for the community to check it out! Thank you and feel free to drop me any questions🤘

EDIT - I’ve had a few requests for links to order, so please see below 😊 Huge thank you to anyone who picks it up!

US pre-orders:
Amazon
(Also available from Barnes & Noble etc)

UK orders (available now):

(Also available from Waterstones, Foyles, Blackwells etc)

How is Ripley not floating away in this section? And why is there a damn elevator on a bridge in outer space?

Like what is this level design?

EDIT: Yes, I understand that the sevastapol uses artificial gravity. But if that's the case, why are there segments where Ripley needs to float towards it? Like when she gets ejected and floats towards the sevastopol or in the very beginning of the game when the thread gets cut. In neither case dies artificial gravity make her hover toward the ship.

Think about it, It would maintain the horror factor, fighting enemies with guns can still be scary if done right (See Amensia: the bunker and Silent Hill 2 remake), it would be a unique way to include the marines while still playing like isolation, there were enemies with weapons in the first game, and it would be AWESOME to watch a Xeno tear up a room of Marines, you could get your very own little unscripted Aliens scenes!

All the story would need is an Wey-Yu executive like Carter Burke or Ransome on the ground to give them orders against the player, and if we're still playing as Amanda, maybe Weyland Yutani finds out Ripley was behind the Sevastopol being destroyed (because she kinda was, overrode the reactor and all), and brands her a fugitive to be captured or killed for destroying their asset (and the xenos they would've farmed from Sevastopol), and the marines are sent in.

Maybe we could see Amanda meet her Hicks or Hudson or Vasquez counterpart, after disagreeing with the CO, remember the only reason the marines disobeyed Burke is because Ripley challenged him, Amanda probably wouldn't have her mother's advantage.

just a cool thing I though

3D Printed Semiotics Symbols

A few weeks ago, I was on my computer at home, and had a realization: when I was designing the keycaps for my custom PC keyboard, I had saved all of the symbols separately as both PNG and SVG files.

Now that I am more familiar with 3D-printing, I've got all these files that I've put time and work into, and there are tools and processes that can help me print these symbols as standalone pieces.

I didn't draw all of the Semiotics symbols when I was designing my keycaps, but a fair bit of them, and honestly, it was fun drawing them up digitally. Since this has turned out so well, I plan on going through to finish designing the symbols that I didn't recreate before, convert them to printable files, and will post them on one of the print file websites if anyone is interested in printing any at home for themselves.

The file was scaled up to about 4" / 101.6mm squared, and 3mm thick.

The thickness is perfect for some drink coasters, or if you're like me, to stick to a wall to be various warnings or indicators. I'm working on turning my shop in our basement into my shop/office, and will be making a bunch of these for the walls.

Just thought that you fine folks would enjoy this. If anyone *is* interested in printing some for themselves, I'll make a post once I've finished with the files (for free!) :)

Seriously, the VA's (Andrea Deck's) performance was phenomenal, and I cant imagine anyone else voicing Amanda. Easily one of the best performances I've seen in the games I've played so far. I admit I have no idea how it works in the VA industry and whether a voice actor can return to a game after so many years. I dont know if the contract they sign is for a limited amount of time, but I really want her to come back for the sequel 🙏

How would you recreate the feeling of this game in a book?

I’m not really a huge horror fan, but I like this game and the original Alien movie a lot. I’ve been toying with the idea of trying to write something with the same general vibes as Alien and Alien Isolation, but I’m not really sure how to capture the traits that make them so great in writing when most of the appeal for me is the visual medium (and in the game’s case, a truly stellar AI!).

My story doesn’t have to specifically have xenomorphs or anything like that, although they’re fantastic monsters. I’m more looking for the ‘trying to outwit/hide from a dangerous predator, oh god I’m hiding in a locker, let me throw this flare and go the other way’ type of stuff. If anyone has any suggestions I’d love to hear them.
