There are multiple examples of the Xenomorph hiding in plain sight throughout the series.
That’s not really a threat in the first game, just the drool dripping from open vents.
The devs added all the little environmental props that are meant to trick you in to thinking the Alien is hiding but it’s never actually the Alien. Just a pipe and wires or some kind of sci-fi tech.
The Xenomorph existed in two states in the first game.
Roaming and Despawned outside the environment waiting for the player to make a noise or activate something.
I’m imagining a third state, if you haven’t seen the Alien in a while and also haven’t done anything to attract its attention, it enters this hide in plain sight state, where it will randomly pick somewhere in the environment to hide and wait for the player to approach.
Adding an extra level of challenge to the game. You get to close and it will grab you. Like the vent drool in the first game but less obvious.
Meaning you’ll really have to pay attention to the environment.
