After doing my research and test drives, I traded in my 2024 Kia Sportage (had so many issues) for a 2021 XC40 T5. I’ve only had it a few days now, but really like it. Hopefully this is the first of many Volvos I’ll get to drive.
The car: Volvo XC40 T2, 2021, 57,000 km.
Bought from an official Volvo dealer in the Netherlands. I am the first owner!
Every single service done at official Volvo dealers, on time, exactly as Volvo prescribes.
The problem: Clunk/bump noise on cold starts during gear shifts and when shifting into reverse while stationary. Disappears once warmed up.
Not caused by user — purely a mechanical failure.
What happened:
What's unacceptable:
\- A €50,000+ premium car losing its transmission at 57K km is not normal. The failure is not user-caused.
\- Bought it from Volvo, maintained at Volvo, followed every Volvo rule.
Volvo markets itself on quality, safety, and customer care. If "the car is too old" at 5 years and 57K km, what am I paying the premium for?
If anyone has been through similar, I really appreciate advice.
Purchased a 2023 XC40 Recharge Twin Ultimate from Walnut Creek around end of March. I had a great deal on the car and it was CPO. First thing I did was to go to an Apple store to purchase a cable for CarPlay. Cable didn't work and I sent the car in for service. The mechanic opened up the system and told us there were coffee stains on the USB-C Port Hub, and quoted me for ~$1k as it was considered wear and tear.
I have emailed and called Walnut Creek of Volvo for help, but they almost never pick up calls after the purchase, and always told me "I'll call you back when we come up with a solution" if they did pick up. Contacted Volvo USA as well for help, but they never responded.
Love the car and the way it handles. Especially with the gas prices in California at the moment, an EV is truly a blessing. Just pretty disappointed with how dealership handles these problems. Can't really straight up say "Avoid XXX dealership" because I assume all car dealerships try to screw you over. Any ideas how I can proceed with this?
I bought Bosche aero twin wipers because it says they’re specifically made for this car but I’ve had a horrendous experience with them so far. They squeak every time they swing on the down and up part, they still leave the glass looking cloudy and it sprays a lot of water onto the passenger side on the down swing. I’ve had them for a little over a month with them and I live in Vancouver so it rains here a lot so having quiet and efficient wipers is a real big deal to me.
I’m wondering if there is a mode I should be putting my auto in when going through the car wash, I just did it for the first time and started to panic with all the alarms going off and though what if the auto brake comes on🤔
My new baby, a ‘23 xc40 plus. Thank you to everyone in this sub that has been so helpful with my questions prior to purchase!!
long time lurker, indecisive car buyer and I am finally joining the club and picking up a brand new 2026 Volvo XC40 this week! what should I ask about during my car orientation? anything the dealership should teach me or check before I drive off the lot? Any accessories or things I should get?
Just came into possession of a 2021 XC40 with low mileage (also my first car ever after more than three decades on the planet!) 😍🌸 not the best picture, but such a nice glacial blue color, calling it baby beluga.
So far I love it—tho I always pictured myself with a hybrid or electric car, and MPG isn’t great. Telling myself it’s okay to intentionally and mindfully use/take care of something that already exists. I don’t use it for commuting, and plan to use it as a way to reach new hiking spots and other occasional cool stuff on the weekends, and also for things around town that were previously hard to get to or that would help a friend, like an IKEA or plant store trip.
I have a large cd collection and bought this to play them in the car. I have a brand new 2026 xc 40 plus b3. I have tried everything I can think of including audiowagon. The drive is working as have tested it on my hifi system. Does anyone have any ideas?
Went to a official volvo garage and for this “toc” sound while acellerating in transition to reverse and then acelerate again they said I need to replace full eletric motor ? Around 9k Euros , do you think its rational ? Anyone had this kind of issue ?
Hi all, has anyone come across this issue where the vehicle name is random, and is there anyway to fix or change the name? Thanks.
2026 XC40 Plus Pro
Hi all,
I really could use some advice as I’m having some decision fatigue. My local dealership is selling a ‘25 sand dune xc40 Plus at 40k, with Harmon, heated seats, pixel headlights. This one has 3k miles. They marked it down for me to 38,500 final price plus taxes. A dealership in my state has a ‘23 black xc40 Plus with pilot assist added, blonde interior. It has 11k miles on it, selling for $33,500. The ‘25 has 3 years remaining factory warranty and the CPO would have 2 years of warranty remaining. I can afford both but I don’t drive alot. Wondering what would be the best decision and have been in my head about it. I am planning to keep this car for a while. Any insight would be appreciated!!!
Looking to purchase an XC40 and the local Volvo dealership has one I’m interested in.
The details- 2025 Volvo Xc40 B5 Plus Fjord Blue
14K miles, was used as a rental.
Sticker is $32500 and it’s $37000 out the door.
If I get it I’ll offer less, but unsure what a good overall price would be.
Still has original factory warranty on it. It’s a certified used Volvo
Does anyone know why there is no Polestar upgrade for 2023 B4 XC40?
Called them and they said nothing is available
Unfortunately, my wife's 2019 R-Design got totaled by the insurance company after a 16 year old driver decided waiting for traffic was too time consuming and pulled in front of her and she, nor the safety braking, could stop her in time. It only had a little over 34k miles on it and was in pristine condition, and more importantly, was paid for. My wife loved that car, we waited over 6 months for it to be delivered from Sweden when we ordered it. I guess I'll be holding onto my 2014 XC60 with 150,000 miles for a bit longer. I do love the 300hp engine in my 60 though.
We just took delivery of her new 2026 XC40 B5 Ultra. It took a few days for the dealer to locate one with all the options we were looking for. Denim Blue, blond interior, rear spoiler, weather package, etc. The only thing it didn't have was the digital mirror, but that was low on the priority list. It's a really nice car, it definitely has a softer ride than the R-Design had. But, you can definitely notice the extra torque from the mild hybrid system.
2nd hand 21k miles, 2023 recharge. Core model but will retrofit a camera. Massive upgrade from my previous 15+ year old car…!
Full screen AA/CP and a chinesium ambient lighting kit… bring the hate!.. I’m waiting 🤣🤣
