YPP 2026-2027 Whattsapp Group

Hi everyone,

I created a WhatsApp group for people who are planning to apply to the World Bank Young Professionals Program for 2026–2027.

This group is meant for serious applicants who have already done their research and preparation and are looking for a community to connect with, share insights, and potentially exchange information.

Just to be clear, this is not an official group in any way—simply a space for people who are actively working on their applications and would like to engage with others on the same path. Message me if you'd like the link to join!

How does World Bank ETC grade EC2 compare to regular staff grades and salary scales?

Hi everyone,

I am trying to understand how World Bank ETC grades work, specifically EC2, and how they relate to regular staff grades such as GA–GH.

For example, if an ETC position is graded EC2, is there any rough equivalent to the staff grading system, such as GD, GE, GF, etc.? And if EC2 is broadly comparable to one of those staff grades, can the candidate expect a similar salary range to the published World Bank staff salary scales for that country, or are ETC compensation ranges usually different?

Does an IFC internship improve chances for the YPP as an MBA student?

Hi everyone,

I had a quick question and would appreciate any insight.

I’ve been selected for an International Finance Corporation (IFC) summer internship in Washington, DC, and I’m currently a full-time MBA student. I was wondering if completing an IFC internship typically helps with the Young Professionals Program (YPP) application process, either in terms of selection or overall competitiveness.

Any thoughts or experiences would be really helpful. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I had a panel interview for a World Bank counsel role in March and was shortlisted for the final interview with the hiring manager within 2 weeks. This took place on April 9 and ever since I haven't heard anything back, though I felt my interview went well and the manager had mentioned i will get to hear back "by the end of the week or early next week". I know that the week after the spring meetings were taking place, and towards the end of that week the manager sent a generic reply to my initial post-interview thank you mail, saying "it was nice to know about your skills and experience and we will be finalizing the process soon and get back to you with an update". Can anyone who has experience, pls guide- is this a no, does this mean they are already finalizing the process with another candidate and are not updating me till that is closed. It's been really stressful to still keep clinging on to hope although I can't help but think that if I was being considered they would have definitely got back to me by now. I also told them that I have a h4 interview on April 28 and I would be grateful if they would update me before that so that I can avoid any complication from any visa conversion. However, they didn't reply to this too. WB portal just mentions my status as "in-review" since the day of the interview. Sorry for the big rant, but any insights from anyone familiar with the process, on what I can expect would be really helpful as I feel harrowed and anxious with the lack of reply. Should I be completely moving on, or could it be that i am still in the race. Grateful for any insights.

I’ve been at the Bank ~2.5 years, currently IU international STC (B3). I hold a PhD, highly technical, niche profile. I’ve been involved exclusively on large regional operations, missions, and global fora.

Despite strong delivery, I have very limited visibility on ETC/staff conversion. I’ve done a lot of networking, but nothing concrete. Applied to about 20 internal roles, not even shortlisted once. I’ve also mostly worked with TTLs who were non-committal on longer-term opportunities and transactional.

Honestly, I’m also starting to wonder whether conversions tend to favor men more than female consultants, even when women are highly technical and filling niche roles.

Does this sound common? Any final advice/actions I should consider before deciding to leave the boat?

Would really value a candid view.

I have an interview coming up for a position at World Bank headquarters in DC and would love to hear from people who’ve been through the process, especially those who made it to offer.

A few things I’m curious about:

• How formal/structured are the interviews? Panel, competency-based, case-style, or a mix?

• Is there a specific way they want you to frame past experience? STAR format, something else?

• Any questions that come up consistently?

• What do interviewers seem to care most about? Technical skills, cultural fit, something else entirely?

• Anything you wish you’d done differently, or that you think actually made the difference?

My role is based in DC, not a field position. Background is in program analytics, so not a purely technical interview.

The internet is pretty thin on WB interview specifics. Any insight helps.

What’s going on in The World Bank India office? It seems like there is no country director, and the interim one seems to be removing all country staff possible. The power autonomy and career development specially for country staff has been severely diluted. I can’t even recall how many people have left or have been fired. Folks who have been here have told me that it has never been this bad and that the CMU has horribly mismanaged relations with the government, and are now acting out in the country Office to save their Jobs . My promotion has been postponed, and I’m not sure if I’ll even stick around in the bank if there is no future . Does anyone know what’s going on?
