Ways to Avoid Monthly Fee Checking

Hi, so I have my main checking with Truist, and also a safe deposit box at my local branch. I’m looking to switch banks and have my direct deposit switched over. I would like to keep the checking open even with a small balance to be able to keep the safe deposit box. I’ve read that one of the ways to keep the $12 monthly fee from occurring is to have a Truist credit card, which I do. I have a secured card with them. Anyone have any experience in keeping a checking open with a small balance and no DD without the fee if you have a CC with them?

Can I pre-authorize a transaction?

Truist seems to aggressively monitor for fraud, which I generally appreciate, but having my own transactions declined due to a fraud alert is very inconvenient. Does Truist have a method to approve or authorize a transaction or merchant in advance so it doesn’t get declined? If I call their fraud department, can they do this? TIA

Opened a Truist Trade account, but Having Trouble Accessing it?

I can see the balance I transferred to my investment account, and I can see a "performance metrics" section when I click into that account, though for the life of me, I cannot find where I am able to actually make investments and control the balance I transferred in. I just wanted to know if I'm missing something very obvious before I reach out to customer support I suppose lol

ATM Ate My Deposit

I deposited a large amount of money today and my Truist’s ATM ate the entire amount. It took the money and then spat out a receipt saying my deposit could not be processed and to submit a claim.

I talked to someone and submitted a claim but does anyone know how long this kind of thing might take? I’m going on a trip at the end of the week and that was literally all of my spending money for the trip.

Check your account if you use Zelle!

I happened to look up something in my account today (business account) and saw a reversal of a Zelle payment I had made to my personal account. I did not initiate the reversal. Has not been withdrawn yet from my personal. I called and was told this was a "known issue" (random Zelle reversals) after software update Friday night. The suggestion (well, after the regular agent told me there was no remedy she could suggest, because "unexpected circumstances befall us all the time") by a supervisor was to re-initiate the Zelle (to avoid a catastrophic issue in my personal account). Insane! No alert, no email about any "known issue" - what a mess. What if this had been to someone other than me? What if I hadn't noticed and bounced a bunch of bills?

Truist Dispute

So I bought a code on ebay for the illidan genji skin, the code didn't end up working and called truist to file a claim. Its been over 9 days and I get a response saying since it due to a merchant dispute I cant get provisional credit and "there are certain charge back rights under the card network that may permit them for getting good the funds" but will try anyway. They said it may take up to 120 days to know the results. Has anyone had similar experiences with this and does anyone have any advice to help?

Sallie Mae Student Loan check placed on paternalistic hold after ridiculous experience of teller depositing it into the wrong person’s account.

I am wanting to share my outrage with Truist after my 10-15 years with the bank since the SunTrust days.

The TL;DR-

Sallie Mae loan deposited yesterday, first attempt teller deposited into a stranger’s account. Second attempt placed on a 10 day hold despite the funds being verified under 24 hours. Customer service unhelpful. Massive negative impact on my life.

I have graduated medical school after a masters degree, 10 years of continuous college. I marched into residency on the opposite end of the country, 2000 miles away from home. I receive a check from Sallie Mae, a student loan designed to residency relocation expenses and go in person to deposit it.

Despite giving my drivers license and debit card, the teller deposits the check into a different person’s account (same first and last name, different middle name and everything else). After reviewing my receipt in the car and not recognizing the account number I go into the bank and have it reversed and placed into my account. First - that should never had happened and would have been catastrophic if I didn’t catch it.

Now I’m placed on a hold until 4/23, 10 days from the deposit date. The funds were credited then removed after 1 day of processing because it’s Sallie Mae, it isn’t from some random person, the funds are readily available from their point.

I called, no response other than it is what it is and a “formal complaint” has been filed. Some good that does. I chatted and they said in a very AI method that they ‘understood’ my frustration but they are holding the check because at some point during medical school I overdrafted despite correcting it and paying the fee in a very timely manner. They then abruptly ended the chat.

Truist is essentially punishing me for being poor. Now that I’ve struggled my way through academia and have this huge ordeal of relocating and doing all the many things required to gain medical licensure, all of which require lots of money hence the loan, Truist is like sorry? Not good enough.

Residency is time sensitive. All these things need paid for in advance and time to process.

Can we just agree this is ridiculous?

Truist keeps sending me “your debit card shipped” emails I NEVER requested

Hey everyone, I need some advice because this is starting to feel sketchy.

About a month ago, I woke up to an email from Truist Bank saying my new debit card was on the way. I freaked out, called the bank immediately, and even went in person the same day. They told me nobody requested a new card and basically brushed it off like it was nothing.

I didn’t feel comfortable, so I told them to cancel everything and send me a new card anyway. They did, but it took a while.

Now TODAY, the exact same thing happened again. I got:

One email saying my debit card is on the way

Another one saying it has already shipped

The emails look legit (correct branding, partial account number, etc.), but the weird part is:

It says “Hello, .” with no name

I never requested anything again

What makes it worse is that Truist doesn’t have 24/7 support, and this is my business account where I pay employees. I’m honestly worried I’m gonna wake up one day and the account is empty.

Has anyone dealt with something like this before?

Do you think:

Someone is trying to access my account?

My email might be compromised? Or could this actually be a system glitch?

I already changed my password once before, but clearly something isn’t right.

Any advice on what I should do next would be appreciated. I’m planning to go to the bank again first thing tomorrow but I don’t want them to just brush me off again.

New security procedures for customerd

I was in my local Truist Bank the day before Easter. I was informed by the teller that starting the following Monday every time a customer comes in for a transaction they will ask for your drivers license and make a copy of it. I feel this is a ridiculous policy. I can understand if the teller doesn't know you but most of the tellers at my branch know me by name. This totally destroys Truist as a community bank if they treat long time customers as strangers. I told the teller who informed me of the new policy that Truist has gotten too big and is no longer a local bank if every customer has to provide ID. The only problem is our other alternative in town is Wells Fargo which is a story in itself.

Unrecognized Phone Number Upon Account Creation

My mortgage was sold to Truist this month and I created an online account at Truist to manage and pay my mortgage. Upon my first login after account creation, I was greeted with verification(MFA) and one of the options had a number that I do not recognize. Once I logged in with an option that I do recognize, I went to my profile and the security center and could not find that number anywhere.

Has anyone else seen anything like this?

Edit: the verification option is still there each time I log in. Here is what it looks like

Edit2: now they're in work hours, I called customer service. They were able to remove the unrecognized number, but they couldn't explain why it was tied to my account.

New job as a universal banker

3 weeks in. Just got my own drawer to handle cash money. I know I should give it time but I feel like the info (with Acadia) is so much and a lot more responsibility than what the pay matches. It’s making me want to look for another job. Is there any tips you would give? Like transactions. What ID I need for and the complex transaction like cash session cuz it’s confusing. I feel so lost since this is my first banker job.
