Any standing desk that people actually keep long term?

I bought a cheaper standing desk a couple years ago and it’s starting to show it.

It still works, but it’s a bit shaky at full height, makes more noise than it used to, and just doesn’t feel like something I’ll keep for much longer.

Trying to do this properly this time and not repeat the same mistake.

I’ve been looking at Uplift and a few others in that range. FlexiSpot again crossed my mind but I’m not sure I want to risk ending up in the same place.

Also came across Vernal while digging around, but don’t know much about how they hold up long term but it fits my budget and came across their stability test report AMA.

Not really looking for the “best” desk, just something I won’t have to think about replacing again in a few years.

Standing Desk Recommendations for 5'3" ( 23" -25" desk height)

First time standing desk buyer. I work from home and looking for something to use on a daily basis. I want at least 55" wide to fit my laptop and my extra monitor. It needs to go down to at least 23" desk height. I want to have some sort of cord management and I would like a drawer. I was really hoping to spent less than $1000.

What brands are decent quality? Currently looking at Vernal, Flexispot, Uplift and Desky.

Any Earth day seals or promo codes?

Probably leaning towards Vernal and Flexispot just due to lower price point.

Should I stick with a laminate top or invest in something like solid wood?

Any FlexiSpot E5 coupons or discount codes? (Canada)

Hey folks,

I’m about to pull the trigger on the FlexiSpot E5 (chipboard top) and it’s coming to around C$449 in Canada.

Just checking here before I order does anyone got any active coupons, referral codes, or know of any ongoing sales that might bring the price down a bit?

Would really appreciate any leads. Thanks! 👍

Decision Help: Uplift V3 or 4-Leg with laminate or butcher block?

I’m deciding between the Uplift V3 frame and the 4‑leg frame. The desk will be used almost entirely in the seated position. Purchasing a standing desk for potential future use.

My biggest issue with my current Ikea Galant (C‑frame) is monitor shake while typing, and I want to avoid that as much as possible.

The setup will be three 27" monitors (dual + single mounts) on a 72" × 30" desk.

I’m also unsure which desktop to choose:

  • Is the 1" laminate strong and durable enough for daily WFH use and for securely holding monitor mounts?
  • Is the 1.5" butcher block worth the additional cost (+$200–$300)?

TIA

My setup

The goal of this setup was not to impress others per se, but to express myself but also having what I need for productivity. I tried to blend authenticity with practicality. I know my setup is no where near objectively the best, but I’m not mad about it. Just wanted to share. I recently got the Tatu desk lamp and I love it.

Need a vesa mount for the wall for 13kg

I'm a long-term standing desk user, I've had a humanscale float for years (gas lift). My new monitor is the Dell Ultrasharp 43" and it weighs in at just over 13KG. It's on my desk at the moment which it can cope with but it makes adjusting the desk one handed really difficult.

I'd like a wall mount with a short-arm; I've typically used Duronics. They don't have anything that will take the weight. Most arms only go to 8KG.

My wall is solid stone so no problem with the wall taking it, I need something that gives height adjust but rotate won't be necessary on this screen ;)

Any one got any reccomendations ?

Thanks
andrew

Got a new desk, now neck pain is killing me - what I'm I doing wrong?

I got a standing desk and have been using it this week, but I’ve started getting a lot of neck pain right at the base of my skull / upper neck, basically where the head meets the neck.

I’m attaching two pictures of my setup. I’m trying to figure out what I’m doing wrong and what I should change.

A few things I’m wondering:

  • Does my monitor look too low, too high, or too far away?
  • Could my keyboard/mouse position be making me tense up or shrug my shoulders?
  • Is the screen maybe too big for the distance I’m sitting/standing from it?
  • I’m also thinking about getting a monitor arm. Would that actually help with posture/positioning?

Would really appreciate any advice on what you’d change first. I want to fix the setup before I build a bad habit. Thanks!

Recommendations For a Budget L-Shaped Desk

Hi all,

I'm in a bit of a weird spot. I have a budget with a max of $350-$400 for a height adjustable, standing desk setup. I would prefer an L-Shaped Desk as I think it will accommodate the monitors/space nicely.

Desks I've looked at:

Ergear 63"x55" L-Shaped Desk

ExaDesk 63"x55" L-Shaped Desk

Flexispot E2 (I know this isn't an L shaped but it came recommended to me)

Huanuo 63" Standing Desk

I'm looking for any recommendations. Big plus if they have the option to mount my computer on the underside of the desk.

Are there any risks for standing with a standing desk full time?

I'm thinking of doing some customization on my standard wooden desk, which was originally made with some custom measures for me (i.e. keyboard tray at elbow level, support for monitor at eye level).

I can't afford one of those mechanical ones that lift and lower on command, but I'm quite handy with woodworking, so I thought I could make some sort of fixed form vertical extension, for monitors+keyboard tray. I have it sort of planned out, but I'm wondering, since it could end up being a bit of a hazzle to switch positions, if working for long hours while standing is actually counter-productive and would end up giving me a new type of pain hehe.

I thought of even switching to full standing, work + gaming + move watching, incorporating the 2-monitor arm support that I use already, and if I ever want to sit while watching something or doing pen and paper stuff I can have my monitor above me and look up, sort of sci-fi style.

Apex Pro with Custom Top Question

Hi there. I've been obsessing over getting a new desk for quite a few weeks now. I've been looking into Flexispot, Uplift, and now DeskHaus. I found a good deal (at least I think it's a good deal?) on Facebook market place. It's a 2" thick 3'x8' slab of an already finished top of Cherry wood. The guy selling it has it on some fixed 28" legs already that are stationary. So it's already a usable desk. I managed to get the price down to $700. Not my main question, but if anyone can confirm this is a good deal I'd appreciate it. I'll be picking it up tomorrow most likely.

So I would like to put this on some adjustable legs. Would this size work well for the Apex Pro? I know they sell the extended rails that go up to this size.. I guess my question isn't entirely so much of if it would fit, but rather if I would need the Apex Pro Max. The top is going to be roughly 150lbs making it very top heavy (heh heh). I'd rather not use the Apex Pro Max if I don't need to, as I will want to occasionally have an ottoman underneath and I also like to stretch my legs out; the cross bar would be in the way. Feed back is highly welcome!

Also, is Cherry fine in general to use as a top? I believe its almost on par with walnut in hardness as far as the Janka scale is concerned.

Standing desk won’t go lower/has a false bottom

The normal lowest height should be 28, but it won’t go lower than 36. It even starts to slow down around 37 before it hits 36. I’ve tried unplugging every cable from everything overnight. I’ve tried giving slight pressure to “force” it to go down more. I’ve tried long holding the down button to reset. This desk is pretty old and discontinued so I’m not 100% sure how to reset/recalibrate the desk. It does seem to flash sometimes when I long hold it, but nothing happens.

The control box is the KDDY094. If anyone has any idea, would much appreciate!

Unexpected perks of a standing desk (for plant people)

I originally bought a standing desk for the usual reasons. I do extra work in the evenings and being able to lower the desk to 50 cm when I finish means I don’t sacrifice the city view. I didn’t expect it to turn into one of the best plant setups in my apartment.

A few things I’ve figured out:

The metal frame is perfect mount for grow lights

I run Barrina T5 strips and the magnetic backing sticks cleanly to the frame. No drilling, no brackets, no mess. Just snap them on and move them whenever I want.

Height adjustment becomes built-in light control

Instead of constantly raising or lowering lights, I just adjust the desk. It’s basically a manual dimmer for PPFD. Easy to dial things in depending on what’s under there.

Consistent DLI with smart scheduling

I’m using the Xiaomi ecosystem to automate the lights. Once you know your rough PPFD at a given height, you can lock in a daily light target and leave it alone.

Under-desk is a surprisingly good grow zone

Right now I’ve got a tray of jacaranda seedlings plus a few tropicals going. Stable temps, controlled supplemental light, gentle morning sun and it’s out of the way.

Airflow hack using the frame

The hollow frame makes it easy to hide small fans. I’ve got them set to kick on when humidity rises. Keeps air moving and helps avoid mold.

Bonus: everything stays clean-looking

No random light stands or wires everywhere. I love the benefits of grow lights but I hate seeing wires. Being able to attach a power bar the back of the frame in tandem with other cable management tools means it just looks like a normal desk unless you look underneath.

I didn’t plan any of this. It just kind of evolved. I realize it’s not everyone’s ideal workstation but if you’re into plants and already considering a standing desk, it’s worth thinking about.

Ironically, I’m probably more consistent using the desk now because I’m always checking on the plants.

Best desk for tall people

Quick question for the tall folks out there. I'm 6'8", and pretty much every desk I come across sits at 27"-29" tall, which just doesn't cut it for me. I need at least 31", though 32"+ would be ideal. Width-wise, I've got 64" to work with, so anywhere from 60"-63" would fit the space nicely.

I've been thinking about going the Desky route, specifically the Dual Ergo Edge Sit Stand Desk, but I'm on the fence about whether it'll actually solve my problem. Budget-wise, I'm hoping to stay under $800, though I could stretch it a bit if something really checks all the boxes. Kind of frustrating that being tall comes with a premium price tag, but hey, that's nothing new lol.

WANTED: desk treadmill / walking pad with these features (does it exist?)

Pretty sure the answer is "no" here, but I figured why not ask this reddit group anyway. I'm wanting to buy an under-the-desk treadmill or walking pad, for use at my work-from-home job. Not 2-in-1 (I won't be running) and foldable is not required. I already own a standing-desk attachment (for my 2 large computer monitors) so I am all set there. But my only "wish list" features for a treadmill pad are:

  1. has a steps counter that displays your # of steps (not distance, not mileage, not duration - but actual number of steps that your feet took)
  2. no app required, I can just jump on, hit start, and it goes (doesn't require me to download anything or sign up for an account on the device's website)
  3. has a built-in power switch & controls, right on the unit....so in case the remote control suddenly dies, the entire device isn't also unusable
  4. has a handle-bar (foldable or otherwise) or some kind of handles or rails to grab for stability, if needed

Does anyone know of a brand/model of desk treadmill/walking pad that checks all (or most) of these boxes? If so please drop a link for share your opinions below. Thanks!

Recommendation For Use With Music Production

Hi all,

Just checked out this community because I keep putting off finding a desk I can use for audio engineering and music production. I typically have 2-3 controllers, keyboards, or synths, on the desk and utilize three monitors. The current desk is 72” x 34”, and has two speakers on either side, for a total of 92” wide. I’ve put a picture of what I’m using right now as well.

I currently have to battle with perpetual inflammation from a reconstructive shoulder surgery along with balancing a career which typically has me at a desk for 10-12 hours a day. I would prefer to find an electric one, but pneumatic is fine if it fits my needs.

I’m 5’11”. If there is any other info I can provide to help, please let me know.
