[Product Question] Just got gifted this skinq vitamin C serum, help your girlie out how to use it 😭

[Product Question] Just got gifted this skinq vitamin C serum, help your girlie out how to use it 😭

First of all it's written AM on the bottle and i always used to use my previous vitamin C serums at night before sleeping, so should i continue doing that or should i use it during the morning and then how should i layer my sunscreen and moisturizer afterwards?

I have heard of Indian gooseberry quite a couple times, what does it actually do? I have even seen shampoos have this ingredient.

The Pilgrim one i used before had 10% Vitamin C and this Skinq one has 15% vitamin C so what's the difference? How will this concentration change affect my skin?

[Acne] My acne journey and routine in a year

Hello! I’m 25, and I just wanted to share my acne journey in case it helps someone or makes anyone feel less alone. When I was younger, my diet was really bad, I have very oily skin, and I used to pick at my face a lot… which made everything worse. I know a lot of you understand how mentally draining it can feel when you’re constantly thinking about your skin and how it looks. My skin isn’t perfect now, but it’s so much better than it used to be. Over the years I’ve focused on:

- drinking more water

- working out regularly

- using an antibacterial silk pillowcase, it helps reduce redness and friction on my skin. Try to find one that’s antibacterial and hypoallergenic. I use one from Luff Sleep. It also helped reduce my hair fall.

- and most importantly, patience

It honestly took a lot of trial and error to figure out what my skin responds to. I’m sharing my routine below, not because you have to follow it exactly, but in case it gives someone ideas. I also try to keep things relatively budget-friendly and easy to repurchase.

I’m also very open to feedback if anyone has suggestions.

Morning

Cleanser: CeraVe SA Cleanser / Starface Star Wash (alternate)

Toner: Thayers BHA or Thayers Unscented (alternate)

Niacinamide toner (Good Molecules)

Salicylic acid (Artnaturals)

Hyaluronic acid (Neutrogena Hydro Boost)

Vitamin C (Pacifica)

Discoloration serum (Good Molecules)

Moisturizer (Neutrogena Ultra Gentle)

Jojoba oil (sometimes)

Sunscreen SPF 50 (very important)

NIGHT

Cleanser

Hyaluronic acid

Retinol (Neutrogena)

Moisturizer

Jojoba oil

EXTRA

I dermaplane every 2–3 weeks.

When I do:

I stop retinol a few days before, avoid actives after (no BHA, retinol, vitamin C for 3–5 days), keep it simple: cleanser, HA, moisturizer, jojoba oil, sunscreen. I also use a silk pillowcase with antibacterial and breathable material, mine is from Luff Sleep.

If you’re struggling with your skin right now, I just want to say, I’ve been there. That embarrassed, avoidant feeling is real. But it can get better with time and consistency. You’re not alone

(27M) Breakout two weeks after sugaring

I have some hair on my shoulders and upper back that I've wanting to deal with. I've shaved this area a couple of times in the past, but this has led to me breaking out a few days later. (I've always attributed this to razor burn, but maybe I'm wrong...)

Hoping to avoid this, I visited a sugaring salon with good reviews in Feb. The whole thing was quick and relatively painless (some slight pain in between my shoulders/nape of my neck, but nothing crazy).

Since I was worried by my past breakouts after shaving and a potential histamine reaction, I tried to follow the aftercare as closely as I could. Lukewarm showers for 48 hours, moisturising, gently exfoliating with a washcloth after 2/3 days.

Two days after, I had some very small irritation and pimples [images 1 & 2], but didnt think much of it and continued with the aftercare.

Two weeks later, I had full-blown red spots/pimples all over the sugared area [images 3, 4 & 5].

Since then, I've been using 0.05% Tretinoin to clear the breakout and fade the hyperpigmentation. It's been 6 weeks and as you can see, they've faded pretty well but not completely. [images 6 & 7]

I also noticed that a lot of the hairs (but not all of them) grew back very quickly and with blunt ends, which makes me think that a lot of them were actually broken at the skin instead of pulled out from the root. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the break out as well...

I'd love to try again with a different sugarer or maybe even to try waxing instead (I will make sure to give my skin a break in between the Tretinoin and the waxing/sugaring!!), but with summer coming up, I don't want to risk another breakout, especially since it will be much harder to protect my back from the sun.

I'm wondering if something like benzoyl peroxide could help me prevent this from happening next time, or if I'm just cursed when it comes to hair removal.

All advice, similar experiences and success stories are appreciated!

[Product Request] How to fix my skin texture and acne issues? 19F

I’ve struggled with bad skin texture and acne for years since I was 12. My cheek acne can often go dry and cracked but then my nose and especially my forehead get super oily.

But my cheeks get Dee pimples and lots of small bumps. My jaw gets Deep bruisey pimples and scar. I also sometimes get hard lumps under my skin that don’t feel or pimples and last months, like a cyst.

I’ve been using:

Cera Ve blemish control cleanser mornings

Cera Ve SA smoothing control cleaner at night

Cera ve moisturizing lotion morning and night

I’ve tried Cetaphil too, and a few others over the years. Nothing has noticeably helped. Has anyone else dealt with this? How?

I also have an awful habit of picking my skin I’ve been trying to break for years. :(

Advice on My Back Acne/Hyperpigmentation

Hi everyone,

I’ve been struggling with back acne and hyperpigmentation for a while. I’m really trying to stay consistent with my skincare routine and would love some advice to make sure I’m not overdoing anything.

Current Skincare Routine for Back Acne:

- Cleanser: AHA BHA PHA 30 Days Miracle Acne Clear Body Cleanser by Some By Mi (1x daily night)

- Vitamin C+ Garnier 4% niacinamide+salicylic acid+melasyl

- Toner: Eqqualberry swimming pool

- Moisturiser: Purito pat calming gel cream

- Exfoliation (1x/week): Pink sugar scrub from Rituals

In the past I’ve used Panoxyl Acne Foaming Wash 10%, kojic soap, Eucerin Anti-pigment, Vaseline Gluta-Hya but didn’t see any big differences at all. (Also tried the brightener vitamin c body wash from naturium but it was too much and triggered my eczema)

My Concerns: I still have hyperpigmentation but less annoying pimples. Curious about how to adjust products to help speed up healing and fade marks, I’ve heard people mention azelaic acid or retinol helps but idk.

[Acne] Seeing a derm for the first time, any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

After a year of experimenting with products, dealing with fluctuating acne and damaging my skin barrier, I’ve finally booked a dermatologist appointment. I’m honestly struggling so much with my appearance at the moment to the extent that I hardly leave the house anymore, always wear makeup even though I hate it and don’t really enjoy the things I used to. I have so much of my hope hinging on this appointment. Looking for any advice about how to get the most out of the appointment and anyone’s experiences that might be helpful!

Also I have a few questions:

- Is it likely that I will receive a treatment plan straight away, or will I have to come back for that? (It’s so expensive and I can’t bear to deal with my skin anymore so I’m hoping they’ll get me started on something straight away)

- do dermatologists tend to give advice on skincare? I’m worried I won’t be able to treat my acne yet given that (at least I think) I have a damaged barrier, but I’m breaking out way more than normal (like everyday something new pops up) and I’m scared of the PIE and scarring being left behind. I feel like the breakouts will settle when my barrier is healed (I’ve only been off actives for three weeks now) but I really want something to manage my acne in the meantime.

- is there a chance I’ve damaged my skin beyond being able to use Tret/retinoids again? My skin got so clear when I used Tret properly for the first time and I want to get back there so bad but I’m worried that i won’t be able to for a really long time/ever and that my barrier won’t be able to repair on its own (maybe catastrophizing?)

- how will a derm be able to prescribe me the right thing given that there’s only such a short appointment to discuss my acne history, what products I’ve found that work/don’t work on my skin, how it has reached its current state etc? I’m worried I’ll be prescribed the wrong thing and it’ll only get worse, especially seeing as my acne atm is largely due to misuse of products/use of wrong products for my skin type and not (at least not mostly) hormonal issues which might be more easily explained.

I would really appreciate any advice anyone has to offer or stories about your own experiences! At the moment I’m finding it so hard to believe that I’ll ever get back to clear skin but I’m trying so hard to hold out hope that one day I’ll heal and not feel anxious to go outside anymore.

[Routine Help] Any advice for male skincare?

Hi! This is my first time on this subreddit and I have very ametuer experience in skincare so, please excuse my ignorance!

I’m 18 and I really want to have clear, oily, glowing skin and I wanted to know if I have eye bags, if they are bad, and how do I get rid of them, and also if there was a way to make my face less hairy?

I’ve added some picture of my forehead, cheeks, eyebags, and just general photos of what my skin looks like right now.

Any advice to achieve my goals? I would appreciate routines, specific cheap and affordable products and lifestyle and dietary habits and changes I can do.

Turns out, spending the entirety of high school eating fast food and pulling all nighters for months on end makes you age a few years 😅 Not sure if it

matters but my dad also suffers from eye bags and my mom has them aswell, so they might be genetic and also from bad sleeping habits, but if anyone has any opinions, tips and suggestions, let me know! I am happily awaiting your comments!

[Routine Help] T-Zone Suddenly Oily?

Okay so due to depression I did not wash my face like ever for a long time. I started and would do the whole routine twice a day so cleanser, hyaluronic acid, moisturiser. I was told that's too much and to only rinse in the morning and do the cleaning at night, but moisturise twice a day.

But my T-Zone all of a sudden after doing this for many months is very oily. Like I genuinely just woke up suddenly and my face was SO oily in the T-Zone, it wasn't gradual. Since then it's been like so much especially around the creases of my nose bridge and on my forehead. It was never oily when I didn't wash it and I can't remember if it ever got oily when I was washing it fully twice a day.

My main questions are:

- Should I use the acid twice a day or even every day?

- Should I be using cleanser twice a day or just once?

- Should I moisturise twice a day or even every day?

- If I should only cleanse once, should it be morning or night?

- Is this from not washing properly or could it be something else considering it was so sudden? I did cut out oily stuff from my diet for a long time for unrelated reasons and that did not help.

I've read articles but they say different things so I don't even know anymore. Like one said to start washing less if your skin suddenly gets oily, but I can't find other articles talking about it.

And finally I also want to ask if I'm able to get away with not using cleanser every day. I'm kind of poor. I do blot throughout the day to manage the oiliness even after I wash.

[Sun Care]

I’m an endurance athlete who can spend up to 10 hours outdoors at a time, often with UV indexes between 7-11. It can also be extremely humid during those hours, so while it is hot and sunny I’m also getting extremely wet. I’m also unfortunately pretty pale and burn easily

I’ve been trying out a few brands of sunscreen over the years but still haven’t found a great combination of price/performance/durability. It’s sort of a unique use-case because I do NOT care about sheen/whiteness at all, the only thing that really matters is that

A. The sunscreen is easy to apply when my skin is sweaty

B. It is resistant to sweat AND salty sweat

C. It lasts for a very long time (ideally the whole day)

D. It isn’t exorbitantly expensive

Of the U.S. sunscreens I’ve tried most do not last more than a few hours. The best performer has been Riemann’s P20 Kids, which I’ve found to last much longer than the other sub brands (sensitive skin ect.) I will also occassionally double up a layer of something more expensive like Riemann or La Roche Posay with a cheaper brand like Blue Lizard just to get more physical sunscreen on. But I have had many expensive Euro brands come off during the day leaving me with a deep tan if not a burn.

Curious if folks here have any recommendations, again sheen/whiteness does NOT matter and is almost desired because it tells you if the sunscreen is still on. I assume kids formulations are often better here because they don’t optimize for looks, they’re just about protection. Open to reasonably priced foreign brands of course (I was about to buy $100 of R P20 but figured I’d ask first)

[Misc] sign of a damaged skin barrier?

I recently got the celimax retinol serum(not the booster) as well as the ji woo gae heartleaf bha peeling pad and decided to use them in alternate days. The other day when I was done cleansing my face I noticed it looked really shiny, i didn’t think much of it and applied my skincare routine but the moment it touched my nose/philtrum area it was burning.

the burning sensation only stopped when I used my moisturiser that was left in the fridge for a “cooling” effect.
if it is a damaged skin barrier, what can I do to prevent further damages and heal my skin? Or is it just dehydrated skin?

To add on, I was looking at my skin after cleansing today and noticed the skin near my eyelid flaking.

-I don’t use both toner pads and retinol serum together on the same day

my routine (inclusive of new celimax products) :

ji woo gae toner pad (3 times a week)

naturie hatomugi skin conditioner

melano cc toner

celimax retinol serum (2 times a week)

skin1004 hyalu-cica sleeping mask

all help is appreciated:) thank you!

[Routine Help] What’s your go-to face mask just to feel fresh in summer? (any texture)

Hey!

This might sound a bit random but I’m just looking for a simple face mask that makes you feel fresh and cool in this heat 😭

Not looking for exfoliation, acne treatment or anything intense just that “ahh fresh skin” feeling after a long hot day.

Texture doesn’t matter—sheet masks,gels,creams, DIY anything works!

Also my skin is normal-sensitive.

What do you personally use when you just want to feel refreshed?

[Acne] help with how to treat bioderma miceller water breakout

So… I messed up

I’ve started working out again and I wanted to gentle cleanse before going to the gym in the morning before coming back home to do my full AM routine.

Well, I used Bioderma and didn’t rinse, topped it with sunscreen, and then worked out at Hotworx (infrared sauna).

My skin has never looked like this. It says no rinse on the bottle but obviously the further reading I’ve done here has informed me that’s not okay.

WHAT do I need to do? I have various products here at home and also have quick access to both Ulta and Sephora. I do not want to make this worse.

TIA for any recs. I tried searching about Miceller water breakout treatments but only found discussions around the breaking out happening, not any treatment steps.

[Routine Help] How to find problem product in new routine

Hi all, I am still a bit new to skincare compared to others and am currently trying to just have a good simple routine going. Cleanser, moisturizer, SPF if I go outside

I feel that either my cleanser or moisturizer is breaking me out, but feel a little lost on finding the problem. I have sensitive somewhat dry skin. I know common sense says just use one and not the other and see what happens. If I use a cleanser without moisturizing I know I will be so dry my skin won’t be doing well anyway. But if I moisturize without any cleanser while already having a breakout, couldn’t it just be another thing on my skin not getting washed enough and make the breakout worse?

I thought about trying to test them again elsewhere on my body (I did this originally before using both) but my body skin can handle anything compared to my face, it really never has any issues at all regardless of what I do or don’t do or what products are in it so I feel like I can’t spot test without risking my face more

[Product Request] New nighttime moisturizer recommendation for sensitive skin

Hi all, I’m currently looking for a new nighttime moisturizer, and could use some recommendations.

For the past 10+ years, I’ve been using Tropical traditions unscented moisturizing lotion, but that has been increasingly hard to get, since I have to order it directly from the website, and it’s rarely in stock. The ingredients of that are: water, coconut oil, jojoba, plant-based emulsifying wax, grapefruit seed extract (which I’ve learned in my research is not actually a great preservative), and palm oil. I have sensitive skin and am sensitive to fragrances, so I’ve been hesitant to try anything new.

When trying to find a new moisturizer, I’ve been looking at ingredient lists and everything seems to contain alcohol (which seems drying) and various chemicals (which is a laundry list of things I may or may not react to).

Any recommendations? Additional skin info below, in case it helps.

On skin type:

I have fairly dry skin. At night, I normally supplement with cocoa butter Vaseline on the dryest parts of my face (nose, under/around my eyes), especially in the winter, and I do slug when my face is feeling especially dry. I’ve found that if I wait too long between washing my face and moisturizing, my skin will start to get flaky, mostly between my nose and cheek.

On sensitivity:

When I first started washing my face, my mother got me a basic neutrogena face moisturizer (with spf, because I’m her pale kid), which I think she read was good for teens. That felt like it was searing my face off, so I switched to the all natural tropical traditions lotion that my grandmother uses.

Years later, when I started using an spf moisturizer in the morning, I found that my skin was fine with the CeraVe spf 30, until they changed the formula last year, at which point I switched to Olay sensitive spf 30, which burns a bit, but the aloe in it helps. I compared the new/old CeraVe ingredient lists, and was not able to pinpoint what caused the reaction to the new formula, so I don’t know what I need to be avoiding.

[Product Request] Cleanser for dehydrated sensitive combination skin?

I am currently using the Skin 1004 Centella Cleansing Oil, but I it leaves my skin feeling tight, and since it's basically empty I was thinking about trying a new one, but I don't know which one since a lot of reviews of Cleansing Oils are very split. [Misc] Really need help: Sensitive skin after 1.8 years of using a sulfur acne treatment

Hello everyone. I’m writing this post because i have reached a dead end with my skin and just really need help. if you have ANY advice for me id be very grateful for it. Almost 2 years ago, i (24F at the time, 26F today) had some mild acne. It was nothing serious. i have acne prone skin and just wasnt washing my makeup off properly. I used to use the Ordinary Peeling Solution weekly, and it was working well for a couple of years, no complaints. One time, i had some breakouts (nothing too crazy), then decided to use an acne treatment after i finished my weekly exfoliant that i leave on my face for 10 minutes as instructed. I came across the de la cruz 10% sulfur acne treatment. I stupidly, and very naively, left a thin layer on my face overnight, because a saw a comment online saying it made their skin perfect.

I woke up the next morning with my skin hot. Burning, heated when i touched it, and that was the beginning of the end. I basically found out the even worse pimples i got the coming week (pic attached) was because i had severely damaged my skin barrier. I stopped all actives. Used bioderma cicabio and only creams like allergika or Purito’s barrier relief cream, once my skin started tolerating creams after a couple of months. I went to 3,4 dermatologists and continue to be gaslit by doctors. When i cried at one doctor’s office and i told him my skin still burns, he told me im “obsessing” over it and prescribed adapalane for the blemishes he saw on my face. Of course, that would really send my skin over the edge, so i did not dare try that.

One decent doctor diagnosed me with Irritant Contact Dermatitis. I dont see alot of info online about how long this lasts, if theres ever an end to it or if i should just accept that my skin as I know it is gone. She just said to continue not using actives and said to use bioderma sensibio cream.

1.8 years later, my skin isnt back to normal. It’s better by 35% but nowhere near being able to use actives again or any toner i want. Even some barrier repair products for sensitive skin sting me. I want to have moisturised, glowing skin. But my skin right now is so dry, tight, and It looks so dull. My fine lines have increased and look worse because my skin is so dry, and that makes me really sad too.

If it helps, I have set aside a good budget for any future treatments. Im willing to do anything, i dont care how much it costs. I just want to have normal skin! My mental health is getting to a low point and need any relief

THANK YOU SO MUCH for reading this!!!! ❤️

All comments welcome.
