[Product Request] New nighttime moisturizer recommendation for sensitive skin
Hi all, I’m currently looking for a new nighttime moisturizer, and could use some recommendations.
For the past 10+ years, I’ve been using Tropical traditions unscented moisturizing lotion, but that has been increasingly hard to get, since I have to order it directly from the website, and it’s rarely in stock. The ingredients of that are: water, coconut oil, jojoba, plant-based emulsifying wax, grapefruit seed extract (which I’ve learned in my research is not actually a great preservative), and palm oil. I have sensitive skin and am sensitive to fragrances, so I’ve been hesitant to try anything new.
When trying to find a new moisturizer, I’ve been looking at ingredient lists and everything seems to contain alcohol (which seems drying) and various chemicals (which is a laundry list of things I may or may not react to).
Any recommendations? Additional skin info below, in case it helps.
On skin type:
I have fairly dry skin. At night, I normally supplement with cocoa butter Vaseline on the dryest parts of my face (nose, under/around my eyes), especially in the winter, and I do slug when my face is feeling especially dry. I’ve found that if I wait too long between washing my face and moisturizing, my skin will start to get flaky, mostly between my nose and cheek.
On sensitivity:
When I first started washing my face, my mother got me a basic neutrogena face moisturizer (with spf, because I’m her pale kid), which I think she read was good for teens. That felt like it was searing my face off, so I switched to the all natural tropical traditions lotion that my grandmother uses.
Years later, when I started using an spf moisturizer in the morning, I found that my skin was fine with the CeraVe spf 30, until they changed the formula last year, at which point I switched to Olay sensitive spf 30, which burns a bit, but the aloe in it helps. I compared the new/old CeraVe ingredient lists, and was not able to pinpoint what caused the reaction to the new formula, so I don’t know what I need to be avoiding.
