(27M) Breakout two weeks after sugaring
I have some hair on my shoulders and upper back that I've wanting to deal with. I've shaved this area a couple of times in the past, but this has led to me breaking out a few days later. (I've always attributed this to razor burn, but maybe I'm wrong...)
Hoping to avoid this, I visited a sugaring salon with good reviews in Feb. The whole thing was quick and relatively painless (some slight pain in between my shoulders/nape of my neck, but nothing crazy).
Since I was worried by my past breakouts after shaving and a potential histamine reaction, I tried to follow the aftercare as closely as I could. Lukewarm showers for 48 hours, moisturising, gently exfoliating with a washcloth after 2/3 days.
Two days after, I had some very small irritation and pimples [images 1 & 2], but didnt think much of it and continued with the aftercare.
Two weeks later, I had full-blown red spots/pimples all over the sugared area [images 3, 4 & 5].
Since then, I've been using 0.05% Tretinoin to clear the breakout and fade the hyperpigmentation. It's been 6 weeks and as you can see, they've faded pretty well but not completely. [images 6 & 7]
I also noticed that a lot of the hairs (but not all of them) grew back very quickly and with blunt ends, which makes me think that a lot of them were actually broken at the skin instead of pulled out from the root. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the break out as well...
I'd love to try again with a different sugarer or maybe even to try waxing instead (I will make sure to give my skin a break in between the Tretinoin and the waxing/sugaring!!), but with summer coming up, I don't want to risk another breakout, especially since it will be much harder to protect my back from the sun.
I'm wondering if something like benzoyl peroxide could help me prevent this from happening next time, or if I'm just cursed when it comes to hair removal.
