Ryanair app bug made me miss my flight

Ryanair’s new "digital only" boarding pass system just cost me a flight and a new last minute ticket.

I had checked in online via the Ryanair website well before the deadline and had a seat assigned. Later, at the airport, I installed and opened the Ryanair app for the first time (after online check‑in had closed, but still in time for the flight, yeah i know i could have arrived a bit earlier).

The app showed my reservation but refused to display the boarding pass. It only said "check‑in closed" and gave me no way to access the pass, even though I was already checked in. Check‑in desks at the airport were closed by then since it was a late flight, so I couldn’t get a printed pass either. Security wouldn’t let me through without a boarding pass, so I missed the flight and had to buy a new ticket for.

On another flight I tested this with two phones:

https://imgur.com/a/Q6xu7yr

Phone A: I had the app installed and opened my booking before check‑in closed. The digital boarding pass downloaded and showed correctly.

https://imgur.com/a/DO122yC

Phone B: I installed the app and opened the same booking after check‑in closed. The app again only showed "check‑in closed" and never fetched the boarding pass, even though I was already checked in and could see it on phone A.

So it looks like if you first install/open the app on a device after online check‑in closes, the app blocks you from retrieving an already‑existing boarding pass.

I’ve opened a complaint with Ryanair, but posting here as a warning:

Install the app and make sure your boarding pass actually appears before check‑in closes.

Take screenshots of your boarding pass.

Ryanair overbook Flights, no ifs, no buts

I checked in 5 hours before my flight today, and got the "seat allocated at desk" note.

Even though I was 186, I wasn't allowed to board.

There was no aircraft change, the attendant showed me the screen which had a big red "+8" next to the passenger count, and confirmed they'd sold 8 more tickets than capacity.

Absolutely fuming, now having to drive to the other end of the country for a 4.00am flight tomorrow to get me to an essential meeting on time.

How do i enter Uk now with the EU passport?

i am in Italy and came with EU passport, i have flight back to UK tomorrow. My friend just checked us both in (online) for tomorrow just now, and she did a big mistake, she accidentally put the same EU travel details for me for checking in. Since i have Dual passport ,i am aware that i need to use the British Passport but we already have the boarding passes so what can i do now? Are they going to stop me or deny my entrance ? It's RyanAir.

My friend told me that there was actually no option to put any other documents. She thought since i would be travelling with my British Passport i didn't need to do the ETA therefore another problem no ETA! And yes i have both Passports.

Long story short: Dual Passport but Checked in back to UK with EU Passport with no ETA!

Landing at Manchester

Just a random flight, but the conditions were perfect for filming this. Great light and clear air.

Recently flew Leeds - Bucharest return. No issues with the flights both on time.

Firstly, passengers refusing to sit down when taxing and seat belt sign on. One passenger near me stood up to get something out of the overhead locker as the plane was at full throttle on the runway about to take off. Crew has to shout at her to sit down

Secondly people sitting where they want. Someone was in my friends assigned seat, and the other passenger refused to move despite cabin crew telling them the plane wont leave until they do.

And the big one, a passenger refusing to put his seatbelt on for landing. He was a big guy in an emergency exit seat. He needed a belt extender and was told he cant sit there with a belt extender. He moved for takeoff to another empty seat, but moved back for landing. When the cabin crew told him he cant sit there for landing, he refused to move. 2 cabin crew told him either you make the normal seat belt fit, or you have to move. He refused to do both and got irate

Im not sure what cabin crew do in that situation? They told him we cant land unless he moves, but if he refuses what do you do? Eventually he did when he realised he was going to delay the whole flight landing

Crew had a nightmare. Speaking to some of the crew after, this appears to be an issue with flights in and out of Romania

Just a wee update on the baggage situation as previous post. I’ve now properly measured my bag and it is within the allowed dimensions, as i said i have been checked multiple times with this baggage and never had any issues on 15 flights. So I’ll be disputing the charge. I understand airlines have rules and they can enforce them, but in this case I don’t believe it was applied correctly. I was charged €75 even though my bag meets the requirements, which was really frustrating and honestly put a dampener on an otherwise amazing trip. I’ll be submitting a complaint and seeing what comes of it. If anyone has had success challenging something similar, I’d be interested to hear how you went about it.

And if i did not check this properly and bought and oversized bag, I would put my hands up and say that I am in the wrong but in this case I am not. And yes I have had ryan air staff at my departure airport check this also.

I have also went and checked my previous history with Ryan air and this suitcase has been too:

Germany 5 times Spain 3 Belgium 2 Austria Poland Slovakia Hungry Ireland Portugal Malta Denmark Prague

Even the USA, Australia, nz, middle east and parts of Asia but obviously they dont count as those airlines have different regulations but you get my point- if the suitcase wasn't within Ryan air regulations, I would have been pulled up for it a long time ago...

**Thanks for all the comments but someone please tell me why this has been checked by staff previously and they did not fine me?? To me if this has been checked before then I would have had no reason to buy a new suitcase.....

So no I am not going on the basis of "ive gotten away with it many times"

I cancelled my LoveHoliday package holiday, can I still use the Ryanair flights?

Hi, A booked a package holiday with Loveholidays - including the hotel and flights with Ryanair. I had to cancel the holiday as my daughters passport is not going to arrive on time. I want to use the Ryanair flight that was booked - change the date for the fee. Loveholidays states that if a package holiday is cancelled, the flight portion is also cancelled and cannot be used.

I can still access the Ryanair flight by using the info they provided me with and I am able to change the flight dates for a fee. I did ask Ryanair chat and it was of no use - it is an AI bot.

Has anyone recently(last month or two) used the Ryanair flight after cancelleing with Loveholidays. I am a little anxious that I will pay the change fee and when I turn up to board, the boarding passes won't work. TIA

Ryanair have changed my flight time - no option to change the flight

I booked a flight from Milan to London Stansted back in September, for this September. It was originally for 10:35 in the morning, landing back at Stansted at 11:40. This was perfect as I'm not from London and it gave me more than enough time to get home.

I logged in this morning (120 days till the flight), and my flight is now 13:45, landing at home at 14:50. This gives me barely any time to get to the train, and I'll have checked in bags. The Ryanair chat has said that they will give me the opportunity to refund or move the flight from 120 days before the flight. They haven't, what can I do?

I have been using Ryanair for maybe 15 years now. At least 6 flights a year. And l have my routine now. I don’t stress as l know exactly what to expect

- I always pay and sit in row 5 or 6 aisle seat (or if flight is 2h+ window seat)
- I often travel with backpack only. I make sure it fits in the guide stand
- if l travel with small carry on - its a hard shell and l make sure it fits 100%
- l always try to board asap to put my bag above my seat
- I love “order to seat” function and l often get a coffee as soon as we take off
- l have movie ready on my phone and noise cancelling headphones
- l move my bag towards my seat so l can stretch my legs. I am 170cm and l am always comfy

I had a really frustrating experience with Ryanair today and I’m wondering if others experienced the same recently. I was flying with Priority boarding, so I was allowed to bring the larger cabin bag. At the gate they checked my suitcase in the baggage sizer and because the wheels/top slightly went above the blue frame, they charged me €75 immediately. What makes this so frustrating is: I’ve flown many times with this exact same bag — including with Ryanair and other airlines — and never had any issue before. The bag wasn’t massively oversized or overloaded. It was literally a matter of a few centimeters because of the wheels/shape of the bag. What bothers me most is how inconsistent the enforcement seems to be: sometimes nobody checks, sometimes staff are relaxed, and sometimes they apply the rules with absolutely zero tolerance. I understand baggage rules exist and airlines need to enforce them, but charging €75 at the gate for something this minor feels excessive and honestly more like a revenue tactic than customer service. So just a warning to others: Even if your bag was accepted many times before, make sure it fits PERFECTLY inside the sizer with no pressure at all — especially on Ryanair flights. Has anyone else noticed stricter baggage enforcement lately?

How strict is Ryanair with their baggage policy?

I've got a bag with the dimensions 42x33x13cm. I understand that their small bag allowance is 40x30x20cm. I am flying out of Stansted Airport. Will they make every passenger place their bag on the bag sizer, or will it only be the ones that look a bit stuffed?

Why does Ryanair still not allow checking in with an ID card through the app?

I've only ever been able to select the passport option in the app, not my EEA ID card. It's just dumb. If they're already trying to force it upon everyone, they could at least let us handle the entire process inside it, but now with the digital-only boarding passes, you have to check in via the website and then STILL get the pass in the app.

Help

Wrong name on boarding pass!

My sons changed his surname and we found out his passport wouldn't come back in time, so we left it as it was.

But when filling in the flight I used his new surname.

Does anyknow how If I can bypass the £115 name change fee. I really can't afford it and . I'm very worried right now.

I was a 7 years old girl on a Krakow-Shannon flight, this was back when the flights only took one currency on board for snacks. As an anxious people pleasing kid, I went over to the trolly and asked for the price of a candybar while pointed to the first one I could see, which was sadly a snickers. I asked if payment with złoty was possible but the flight attendant said it was not. I walked away and remember sulking silently curled up on the chair.

Towards the end of the flight the lovely lady shows up and holds out the full size snickers bar for me to have! I was very greatful and so touched by the fact that she did that for me! I didn’t have the heart to tell her I absolutely hate snickers. The gesture still lives rent free in my head as a wholesome memory and shaped a big chunk of my faith in humanity. I hope she’s doing well.

anyone actually received reimbursement for expensive replacement tickets?

My Ryanair flight to Jordan in June was cancelled. Under EU passenger rights, I asked them to rebook us on another airline with similar travel conditions (same route/direct flight), but they refused and told me to book it myself and request reimbursement afterwards.

The problem is that the only reasonable direct alternative now costs around €1900 for the 4 of us, and I’m honestly scared to spend that much without knowing if they’ll actually reimburse it.

Has anyone here been in a similar situation and successfully gotten reimbursed for expensive replacement flights? How long did it take, and did Ryanair try to refuse or reduce the amount?
Any advice would really help before I risk booking these tickets.

Flight delay 3 hours

Currently waiting for a flight, which is due to depart 3hr 10 late.

I'm expecting to get compensation, but the ryanair app says the flight is delayed due to adverse weather conditions.

How can I confirm that is actually the case?

https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/ei-ikx

It looks like the first plane from EMA to Alicante leaving at 0545 was diverted to Valencia.

Theres no information as to why the plane was diverted.

It looks like the plane eventually departed Valencia and landed at Alicante at 1301.

I have checked all arrivals to Alicante at the scheduled time of arrival and all other flights landed on time.

Surely that means there was no bad weather?

So now, there's a knock on effect on all flights FR8150, from Alicante to EMA was due to leave at 10am. The flight has not departed but it scheduled to leave at 1610. Then that plane will land in EMA for my flight.

can someone check my understanding and confirm whether that first plane that was diverted was in fact diverted as a result of bad weather?

thanks

Maternity fit to fly

Does anyone have experience with Ryanair's policy on fit to fly certificates?

It says on the form the certificate must be signed by the midwife or doctor 2 weeks before the departing flight.

My departing flight I'll be 27 weeks pregnant - I don't need a fit to fly until 28 weeks according to RAs policy, but plan to have one anyway.

However my return flight I will be 35 weeks pregnant - just before the flying cut off of 36 weeks.

Will I face any issues using a certificate from 27 weeks at 35 weeks? Obviously I'm not in the country with my midwife to get an updated one, so I'm not sure how this would work!

I never paid anything other than the bare fare

But what if I bought their overpriced 4 eur coke, swiped my card only for it to decline upon landing?
