Why do restaurants stop serving dinner so early here?

Coming from Paris, it just feels weird to me that it’s hard to find a place for a sit-down meal at 21h30, especially considering Prague doesn’t exactly have a sleepy nightlife, generally speaking.

HELP! I got a job offer at Bluelink CZ, but I’ve read really bad stuff about the company

I’ve been offered a job at Bluelink CZ, it pays 40k czk (+productivity and quality bonuses).

I moved from Spain 4 months ago and the truth is that I’m struggling to find a job here in Prague, even with my 4 years of experience in Administration and billing and currently studying Czech.

When I was offered the job at Bluelink I was happy for being able to at least get some money (even though 40k is not that much tbh).

But I’ve been reading some nasty stuff about the company, about how toxic the work environment is and even some cases of harassment (which as a girl is the most alarming part).

I’m now thinking if I should take it or not. On one hand I can just be there until I secure another job, but on the other, if it’s as bad as they say, I don’t think I want to go through that.

Please let me know what you think about the company and my situation!

Thanks 🙏

why did police come to this begging woman?

Hi. Few days ago I've seen in Prague, somewhere between Prazsky Orloj and Karluv most, there was this old woman with dog begging. Same as all beggars, on her knees and head to the ground. Police came, policeman took camera out and did her some pictures. Didn't stay to see what will happen next, but now I am curious: what could she possibly done that needed police intervention? Is begging illegal? or was it because of the dog?

🥾Hiking near Prague

Hi lovely people of Prague!

I've been checking online, but I would like to get some reddit wisdom on this.

I recently bought a car and I have been going to Pruhonice castle for walks outside of the city in nature. But now with the weather getting better, I want to know which hiking spots do you recommend near Prague and in the Czech Republic as well.

Thank you!

Homeless convention today?

Today, I used the transportation system several times (trams and metro mainly), in all of them, there was a smelly homeless person in there. What happened today in Prague? It is just annoying that besides the lack of deodorant on daily basis, now we need to deal with the odor of piss and poo all the time.

I’d appreciate any advice or shared experience. Thank you!

Hello everyone, I’m from Georgia and I’d like to ask for some help. I want to know which nationalities make up most of the expat community in the Czech Republic, and whether there are Georgians living and working there as well.

Also, I have one more important question: if you are working in the Czech Republic but do not have a bank card (for example, if you receive cash), how can you send your savings to your family back home? What methods do people usually use?

I’d appreciate any advice or shared experience. Thank you!

Why is finding a place to rent in Prague so stressful?

I’ve been casually looking at apartments and didn’t expect it to be this competitive. Places get taken quickly, prices vary a lot, and it’s hard to tell what’s actually a good deal. Feels like you have to decide almost immediately or you lose the option. For people who went through this recently:

Any tips on what to watch out for or how to approach it without rushing into a bad choice?

what's with all these duck shops?

Hi. I recently returned from Prague. In few spots in city centre, where I bet rent for shops is high, I've seen these duck shops. Nothing else but small, yellow rubber ducks. full shelves of these. and the shop is empty, nearly all day. What is this about?

English

I’m looking for a man who used to walk around Prague wearing a red-to-pink coat with lots of gold buttons, two of which were on the back; he sometimes carried a sword or two with him—he can’t be described any better than as a Prague wizard.

Do you know anything about him?

I used to see him most often at Anděl and in the metro.

Poker in Prague/Rozvadov

Hello! I'm planning on going to Czechia for some poker in late April/may. I've understood it as the best poker room is located in Rozvadov but I've read some other posts about it being practically impossible to get there without either renting a car or paying 180 euros for the casino shuttle. I'm therefore contemplating just sticking with Prague for poker and I'm wondering how the action looks in Prague? If I'm going let's say Thursday-Sunday will I be able to play either cash or tournaments everyday? Can I play daytime? Are there many casinos? Just want to get a general overlook of the poker scene in Prague :)

Also, if I were to go to Prague for 3-4 days. Where's the cheapest/most "cost-effective" place to stay and how much can I count on for hotel/airbnb?

Any input is greatly appreciated

Airport road

Hi everyone!

I was looking at some options of getting to the airport and it seems like that they made some updates to Apple Maps because now it’s showing the private airport road as an available route to the terminals. As far as I know you need a valid airport ID card to use this road, otherwise police can fine you.

Moving to Prague? Clarifications :)

hi all, i am a foreign student currently studying in Prague, with a potential lead on an english teaching assistant position beginning in August. i have a few questions about living requirements that i havent been able to answer via google searches.

  1. the stated salary is between 40-45.000 Kc per month, is that livable for Prague? the school is in Prague 6, so ideally id like to live in that area. (ive seen 40.000 thrown around as a livable wage for Prague, but would love some clarification on that.)

  2. the interviewer stated that the contract includes mandatory taxes, social security, and health care to be taken out before the check is deposited (15-20% decrease was stated). this seems self explanatory, but would this cause a signficiant decrease in pay that i should be aware of? Does the 40.000 comfortable salary fall before or after these expenses are taken out?

  3. should i have significant savings before moving to prague? as a student, i still have some debt that i would attempt to pay off prior to relocating, but that would likely mean i would have little to no savings for moving. is that a deal breaker?

  4. what style of housing should i be looking at? flatshare, studio apartment, 1 bedroom? any recommendations of places to find apartments that will rent to foreigners?

  5. visa requirements, ill be returning to my country when my study period ends (may 15), and would be anticipating to return at the beginning of august. would i need to apply for a work visa ASAP? or is that generally handled by the employer?

thanks for any and all insight, i appreciate the help!

Viaggio a Praga luglio 2026

Hello guys. I was thinking of spending 13-14 days in Prague in July. It's my first experience in the Czech Republic, and I'll be traveling alone. I'd like some advice from a resident or someone who's been different at times, especially regarding costs. Do you think I could do 13-14 days on a budget of between 12 and 14,000 Czech crowns (I've already converted from EUR in my case). This figure is for the 14 days there (without flights or accommodation), meaning it includes ONLY lunch and dinner, a few attractions, transportation, nights out at the pub/club, a few nights out in the city center, gadgets or souvenirs to bring back, etc.

Do you think it's feasible? I can increase the price..it's not a problem, but I wanted an initial breakdown so I can get a sense of the city's general costs.

As for accommodation, I'm opting for a hostel: everyone has recommended it, both for the price and for meeting new people and doing activities with them (I'm especially keeping an eye on OneFam), which is very close to the center of Prague from what I've seen.

I'd love to hear any suggestions you have for this trip, especially regarding nightlife and places to meet people and talk in a relaxed atmosphere in a nice, socially active place. I'll obviously try to make friends at the hostel and find company for the evenings there, but if I don't connect or find the right company, I'd love some advice on socializing in Prague. I'm not 100% into clubbing and dancing until 5 a.m., so to give you an idea, I'm somewhere in the middle. I like to party, but I'm not one for staying all night.

Any advice is welcome, and if you'd like to join me on this journey, don't hesitate to ask... I'd be delighted.

It doesn't matter if you're a boy or a girl, so don't be shy. I haven't locked down a specific date yet, but I'll give you a range in case anyone wants to join (July 4-5 to July 19-20).

How modest is Prague?

I’m going to Prague this summer for a month and I want to know how modest people are so I don’t offend the culture or anyone. I grew up in Southern California and I’ve seen people walk around in swimsuits here. Not that I would do that there I’m just trying to explain the level of modesty I’m used to. How do people dress day to day and how do people dress at the clubs/night life. I don’t want to accidentally offend the culture or anyone, when I go out it’s usually a tank top n a skirt. Please let me know!
