Struggling to get the angle I need

How do I achieve the chamfer on the ring in the photo? I am a beginner but have done solid works level 2 then moved to Onshape.

I can do basics but am designing my own ring. I sent a chamfer around the ring but need the off plane extruded cut (I think) to finish it off.

How can i measure but not make it a constraint?

I am trying to just measure angles in an object and do not want them to be a constraint. How can I accomplish that?

https://preview.redd.it/nsqhcmaolswg1.png?width=1024&format=png&auto=webp&s=23200d299ea21f43c5b8e5337651a53c8f9faa54

The 17.x degree was the last one measured, but I just want the angle to be able to change based on the length (13.25 in this image). Note: the 72 deg angle was measured prior to the 17.3 deg angle.

Paying for my project

I will pay $20 to anyone who can make my project for me in onshape. (cam shaft and follower) You can follow the Billy Garret video series on youtube. It’s for a class project and I can’t figure out how to use onshape and my teacher is too ignorant to help me. I will give you login info and once it is completed I will pay. Or if you are a trusted user on here I’ll pay you before you do it. Should take 1 hr max for average onshape user.

I need to recreate this small cube in onshape. I am a newbie, and I cannot figure out how to angle the “U”shaped hole

Need help making this surface

Hey everyone. I’m still relatively new to Onshape, and I’m having issues with some of the tools. I’m trying to make this surface (photo attached), but if I’m using the boundary surface tool it says “cannot create valid profile from selections.” Can anyone give me some pointers on creating surfaces like this?

Struggling with OS

5+ year Solidworks user here. We are slowly transitioning from SW to OS at the company I work for. We went through training course and have been working with it for a few weeks.

The experience so far has been horrible.

  1. The mating does not make any sense- When working on a concept a lot of time is spent on calculating and measuring the offsets to get the parts to correct location in order to design the mounting brackets and plates. The CAD software could at least calculate the offsets from the connector positions. The mate connectors are located randomly ( real parts have chamfers and fillets) and that causes the location of the mate connector to be at a random dimension from other outer faces of the part.

  2. Cannot edit parts from assembly level. Instead of double clicking on a part or a feature you have to open the part, make the changes and then go back to the assembly to see if it fits.

  3. Abstract document level which does not make any sense coming from SW.

  4. Last but not least, the performance while working with bigger assemblies is not that much better than working in SW.

Throwaway acc, just wanted to vent. Most of the other users in this subreddit are tinkering at home with some 3D printed stuff and for this OS is a great choice. For professional use to design real machinery it is not suitable at all in my opinion. OS tried to reinvent the wheel but in my opinion failed miserably.

Pinwheel of death

I design sheet metal art and other things I cut out on a fiber laser, so all 2D design in Onshape minus assembly which a rarely use.

When designing something is it better to import multiple designs once finished into the final part before creating the dxf?

Take for instance what I'm currently working on... I combined multiple drawings into one after exporting to dxf then inserting them back into one parts studio to do the final export of the DXF I intend to cut out. However I made some modifications in the final window and even a simple cut takes 30-90+ seconds to process.

Don't think its my gigspeed ubiquiti connection, M4-pro, I run OnShape in incognito mode to avoid conflicts with browser extensions.

Are there other things I can do to speed up this processing power on my end or is it all cloud related/ user limitations I'm pushing against?

I feel like SW still runs smoother in this regard than OnShape and I'm running it on a Mac through Parallel (virtual machine).

The downtime % is low, but going down at 11am PST on a Monday?! That is critical error.

2 times in the last 2 months Onshape has gone down for an extended period of time. Both times during peak and critical times for me. Client on site, work needs to be done. The overall downtime % is low, but the relative 'weighting' of going down at 11am PST on a Monday is a different thing. Is this going to be an ongoing issue? Not helpful when I'm trying to onboard more of the team who think SW is the best thing ever and who's main argument is that Onshape is online and can have connection issues.

Free customer feature requests not welcome

I've been really enjoying my onshape experience. It's definitely the most accessible CAD app. I'm using it for 3D printing. Really a big fan of it and I've been recommending it everywhere.

One thing that frustrates me though, is that every time I switch to my onshape browser tab, I have to Sign in again. Every time. The cookie or JWT Has a really short expiry time That's a (very cautious) developer decision. Sign in as well happens over two pages. So it's click, click, click, click. It's just a crappy experience. A daily one.

So I logged a feature request about that from the app and opened a ticket, asking for a setting or new default, much longer, session expiry. Subsequently, about two days later, I got an email saying they had closed it without even reading it. Because I was a free customer, I'm not welcome to make feature requests. I'm only allowed to report bugs. This feels a little bit of a stingy reaction that sours the lovely experience a little, Especially because, in my opinion, this tiny change would, in a modest way, improve their app.

I kinda understand. It's a great app. And the freemium model is very interesting. You get a full-blown CAD experience and just have to accept that the stuff you do is public. I can accept that. (Not that the full price isn't eye-watering, it has to be said, and so non-professionals are effectively priced out.) And I understand supporting all the freeloaders like me is a pain. But it does seem like a little bit of a cheap brand experience. Wondering what you all think?

Trouble running Onshape on Mac Mojave

I have an old Macbook at 10.14.6, just recently downloaded Onshape. Whenever I try opening a document, I’m stuck loading studio data. I tried using the Orion web browser, but I was met with being stuck loading graphics. Is there a fix?

I need help figuring out how to cad!!!!!

OK, so I’m in my rocket propulsion lab and I got assigned to create a clamshell that will fit around the nitrous tank and the goal is to keep it insulated so that way the nitrous stays cold, so I took inspiration off of University of Calgarys clamshell, and they had it designed as the picture above and when it’s connected to the electronics, you can just hit a button, and the two triangular sides will open. The reason I have it colored purple is because it’s representing foam. As you can see, I marked where I wanted to hollow it out. I’m not really sure how to do this on onshape but I do need help on how to hollow out that triangle wall also still keeping that circular seat for the tank. Idk if this makes sense at ALL plz help😭

How to download the project file?

Is it possible to backup the entire project?

I'd like to be able to re-upload the project to onshape at some future point, and have the entire timeline there.
