Free customer feature requests not welcome
I've been really enjoying my onshape experience. It's definitely the most accessible CAD app. I'm using it for 3D printing. Really a big fan of it and I've been recommending it everywhere.
One thing that frustrates me though, is that every time I switch to my onshape browser tab, I have to Sign in again. Every time. The cookie or JWT Has a really short expiry time That's a (very cautious) developer decision. Sign in as well happens over two pages. So it's click, click, click, click. It's just a crappy experience. A daily one.
So I logged a feature request about that from the app and opened a ticket, asking for a setting or new default, much longer, session expiry. Subsequently, about two days later, I got an email saying they had closed it without even reading it. Because I was a free customer, I'm not welcome to make feature requests. I'm only allowed to report bugs. This feels a little bit of a stingy reaction that sours the lovely experience a little, Especially because, in my opinion, this tiny change would, in a modest way, improve their app.
I kinda understand. It's a great app. And the freemium model is very interesting. You get a full-blown CAD experience and just have to accept that the stuff you do is public. I can accept that. (Not that the full price isn't eye-watering, it has to be said, and so non-professionals are effectively priced out.) And I understand supporting all the freeloaders like me is a pain. But it does seem like a little bit of a cheap brand experience. Wondering what you all think?
