I need a word with the person who designed this blasphemous duffel bag

Someone NEEDS to write to mindef about these poorly-designed black duffel bags.

They know that people carry heavy loads that are large and bulky (LBS, cage, assault bag), which is why it’s good that you can fit so muuch inside. HOWEVER, whenever you drag it, the handle you hold onto is TOO short, and it keeps hitting your heels, and you risk tripping. Sometimes when your leg hits it, the entire bag also goes sideways and it is always a hassle to realign it.

I know it sounds like I’m picking at something small, but an easy fix would just be to elongate the handle…work smarter not harder yk.

Should I still become a 3SG?

Hi all, currently posted to SCS pro term as an MP spec.

However, I am in the midst of reconsidering if I should continue SCS or OOC. On one hand, becoming a 3SG would give me more personal freedom and welfare. On the other hand, I heard people say the responsibilities are high and may have lesser time for yourself compared to being a men.

There are two key deciding factors for me:

  1. I want more time for myself outside of NS to focus on uni applications and portfolio for next year.

  2. I was told that OOC-ing would likely mean I would be posted to infantry as a men which I absolutely don't want. I was from mono-armour in BMT, so would like to know if that would increase my chances of going back to armour as a man (which i would much rather prefer).

I am already being affected mentally because of the strict regimentation and discipline rules for MP SCTs, and therefore have a valid reason to OOC. Would like to hear your thoughts on this.

Is becoming an officer in OCS or trooper life in 3GDS worse?

I wonder if becoming an officer through OCS will lead to a better life in NS than becoming a trooper in 3GDS

Both seem horrific as I am not that fit; only consolation for me is that at least in GDS I will get admin time and sleep (i think)

How is DB like? Entering for 6 weeks soon

Hey guys, as per title, may I ask how is DB like for those of you who have been there before/working as MP there?

I got sentenced to 6 weeks DB cos of AWOL (wont elaborate too much but yea)

I have a few qns, wld appreciate if anyone has answers to them, since the last post regarding DB was years ago:

  1. I am currently pes E9 due to severe depression, would I still need to do the PT there (I heard it's sandbag regime).

  2. If we have medical appointments (e.g. at NUH), do we need postpone it or will there be arrangements made for us to attend them while we serve the sentence?

  3. How is life like in there? Any advice on things to avoid doing?

Thanks in advance!

Please help me. I an desperate

Hello all,

I want to preface this by saying that I am not trying to keng. I’ve been holding all of this in with no one to talk to and I really, really think I need an exemption.

Recently, I caught my father trying to do something funny by messaging those sus massage places… there was even one time he came back home super late and was quite reluctant to tell us where he went until we pushed for it until he told us he went for a massage. I did not tell my mom about the messages.

I have Complex PTSD, BPD, Depression, and Anxiety. However, I believe all these were wrapped in “adjustment disorder”

Most of my symptoms come from my father who has so much prejudice against mental health he doesn’t even know he himself is depressed and is always pessimistic with low self-esteem. Heck, even our most recent family visit with relatives he was almost bragging and proud about how he used to scold and beat my brother and I when we were kids to discipline us. I’m really upset about that still.

I still have scars on my back after he made me kneel in front of buddha and beat me with a cane when I was younger after just a tiny conflict about me talking too much in class in pri sch.

This does not just affect my ns life, it also affects my civilian life. I need therapy and want out of this toxic place.

Don’t get me wrong, my father is extremely dutiful and has his strengths. But when it comes to passing down unhelpful mental disorders, random tamper tantrums, zero self awareness, and constant low self esteem, he takes the cake.

I know of a way to simulate brain tumour and off myself. That is last resort. I’ve already seen PCC, but my follow up is three months away. I also have upcoming IMH follow ups. I’m just extremely triggered and overwhelmed right now because my family has been fighting a lot recently, I’ve a lot of pressure on myself to do well and succeed in ns and life, and also about how my father’s sus behaviour.

What do I do

Does NS have a "toxic masculinity" problem or is that an exaggerated myth?

I know some units do have this problem but others don't. Is it rarer than most people think though?

Who did Height Extension Surgery?

Just heard from someone that a fella did height extension procedure during their leave before joining vocation and almost turned into a vegetable? Apparently he is coming back for BMT this year again.

A certain minister says the cost of providing free transport for NSFs would need to be cross subsidized by other commuters through higher fares, or by taxpayers. But here is the question. For a nation that generates a budget surplus each year, why can we not support our men who are contributing to the nation? That same minister, in my own words, has mentioned that national service is a civic duty and not a transactional one. So why should we expect our men to bear additional "transactional" expenses? Isn't that a rhetorical contradiction?

Civic duty refers to the legal obligations and moral responsibilities a citizen owes to their community or nation. Now I believe a nation, represented by its government, also owes fundamental duties to its people in exchange for their allegiance and compliance. So why can't I turn the argument around and say the government has a CIVIC DUTY to contribute more to our men?

And I know the government can always find ways to justify its position through the use of specific linguistic terms, but I believe as a bottom line, beyond serving our two years, our men should be compensated in a way that is due and fair regardless of monetary arguments. It is ultimately a basis of social good.

And its not about political correctness, it is about being correct. So don't get me started on issues like slippery slope or change the topic to upholding the sacred duty/intrinsic motivation of a soldier.

Reservist under Defence Psych Dept?

I got my call up letter for the first time, almost 13 years after my ORD. ICT high key.

Reporting venue is 2 Bukit Merah Central, just report with No.4, head dress etc

Went into OneNS portal to acknowledge.

View Training Prog is empty

Packing List is empty.

Unit is Defence Psychology Dept.

No other relevant info I found.

For context, used to be platoon sergeant/PCT at BMTC.

Wondering what to expect for reservist. Any ideas?

Who are some of the most sadistic officers that you have met?

I was hanging out with a longtime sec sch friend, then heard from him that the most hated, manipulative guy in my cohort become officer....

After I heard that I was wondering if there was a real correlation between the two. Got ah? ☠️

I'm a 35% voter and I'm a NSMen.

The local born youth who serve NS and those who on reservist duties should have their transportation cost borne by taxpayers for obvious reasons because the 2 years for NSF and 2-4weeks for reservist men is opportunity and time cost especially in SG where job survival is crucial and job placement is getting harder due to AI and hordes of immigration thanks to doofus 65%.

If Govt intended for their own ministers to get salary increment, the boys young and old who serve and defend SG in peacetime should have their allowance increase.

Won’t reveal too much about myself to avoid being doxxed but I’m almost at the end of BMT now and I can safely say that most men are really disgusting.

There are predators in my platoon. People that have taken advantage of women (and one of them a man). People, or rather monsters that tell their stories freely and openly while others just laugh or shrug it off like it’s the most normal thing in the world.

And the way they talk about female regulars/ogle female recruits in camp is just so disgusting. I’ve heard them rating women, calling certain female recruits their “favourite girls” and referring to them by the size of their assets and discussing all the disgusting things they want to do to them like its the most normal thing in the world.

I never really was a feminist, but I would say I understand now what women mean when they say they’d choose a bear over a man. These men are monsters, plain and simple. The ones that have committed actual acts and the ones that fantasise about or just sit idly by and laugh all perpetuate and normalise this sort of harm towards women.

This has been taking an incredible strain on my mental health.

The marching, the drills, the tekan sessions are bearable. Knowing I sleep in bunks filled with rapists, misogynists and predators on the other hand is not.

I hope what I am experiencing is abnormal, and I just got stuck with a bad batch of recruits. Please tell me your experiences are different.

Arty sign on (officer vs wospec)

Hi everyone, I’m going for a sign-on interview with Singapore Artillery soon and wanted to learn more from people with experience in artillery units.

I’m mainly interested in understanding
- the different roles for officers and WOSPECs
- differences in day to day lifestyle and responsibilities
- field vs office/technical work
- training tempo and outfield frequency
- unit culture and career progression
- what artillery life is actually like long term

Would really appreciate any insights or experiences from current/former artillery personnel. No sensitive/classified details of course just trying to learn more before the interview.

Would a DB sentence impact significantly

Sentenced to aggregate 2 weeks in DB by GCM for 8 different charges (all stupid shit) but ORD few years back and in uni already, so wanted to ask if it will affect my outside (eg existing uni as I’m year 3) apart from the obvious that I have to waste time

Do I have to declare to uni even though now is summer break and technically on “holiday”
