Random Japan sign in Nagoya
Can anyone tell me why there is this random ‘Japan’ sign on Shirikawa-dori near the science center? I is confused.

Hi everyone
I'm around Nagoya for an internship for two months, and spend two months in Tokyo before that. I really liked Koenji in Tokyo and I wanted to ask for some recommendations for districts and places that might be similar. I found Osu already and think parts of Akamon dori have the same feeling to it. I really enjoy Nagoya this far and am very happy to see a less popular side of Japan.
Thank you in advance!
The last time these flowers bloomed was in 1908 (Meiji 41).

I saw 3 of them, 3 different days now.
Smoking right in front of my apartment while stretching (i get it, he has free will) but it makes me weird while leaving my house.
Lying down on the sidewalk, like his personal bed. Ofcourse with a cigarette on his hand.
This one genuinely pissed me off a lot. He was peeing in someone’s garden right next to my house and almost bumped me while chaining up his pants.
I got scared and disgusted out of my wits.
Is this common in Nagoya or big cities like Nagoya?
I live in Mizuho ward
Many of the international community of Nagoya may not remember Santa Barbara or know much about the early live music scene of Nagoya during the 90s. This Sunday at Second Home is a chance to see and hear what it was like at this unique event that brings the "older" generation of foreign residents together with those who came here more recently.
The occasion is the screening of the documentary "Rise Up Your Pints!" along with a live music by "The Rising Pints" who have reunited from across the globe to premier the film, play a few sets of Irish folk music - and chat about what it was like for those who came long after they relinquished the stage to all the bands that have followed.
Rise Up Your Pints! – Film Premiere
Venue: Second Home
Date: Sun., May 17, 2026
Times:
Doors 17:30
Film 18:15–19:00
Q&A + live show to follow
Price: ¥1,000
For more information and a sneak peak at a clip from the film head on over to the Nagoya Buzz website!
Hello, I just moved to nagoya today. I visited a couple of supermarkets like aeon and seijo ishii, but everything seems to be in small portion, like for one meal or even less. But I want to buy larger portion stuff, esp frozen meat like chicken breast and shrimp, for better price and less frequent shop visit.
chatgpt said i can try 業務スーパー, but im not exactly sure if it really opens for individual buyers or if it actually offers frozen chicken breast.
I assume costco might work, but I live very far from that area and I do not have a car/costco membership.
any idea?
As the title says my friend from my homecountry is coming to visit next month and i need some ideas of what to show him in Nagoya since he’s a “tourist” he isnt a big shopper but would rather want to see traditional things so i’ll ofc show him Nagoya castle and Atsutajingu. But i need more tips
I am living in Nagoya for the month of June. I am staying at an apartment in Sakae next to the Mirai Tower and want to find a gym I could go to regularly around there.
I see Gold’s Gym is nearby and am wondering if they do monthly passes. If it comes down to me doing day passes, that’s fine, but just curious if anyone had better options.
Looking for shops in Nagoya that specialises in artist materials; linotype tools, varieties of papers for sketching/linotype/book binding, pencils, brushes, pigments, natural dye, etc.
And shops that are selling more niche perfume/scents than the usual brands you find in shopping malls, thanks
What’s the best way to discard broken luggage without getting complaints about the gomi centre?
I’m potentially open to suggestions to fix broken wheels.
Thanks. 🙏
Legendary actor Jean Reno will be captivating audiences across Japan with his highly anticipated one-man show. In an intimate and emotional performance, he will shares stories from his extraordinary life and legendary career, including iconic collaborations with director Luc Besson in classics like Léon: The Professional, The Big Blue, and Nikita. A huge cultural event in Japan.
From what I could understand, it was something related to saving Japan and Japanese god. But I couldn't understand most of it.
Hi everyone, I'm looking tips regarding any good neighborhoods or agencies/sites for someone moving to Nagoya to begin a job starting next month. So far Ive been looking at Suumo, Canary, Homemate and wondered if I should just make inquiries myself or work with an agent. (Japanese is not a problem)
My office will be a 5 minute walk from Fujigaoka Station and my company will be reimbursing the commute, so I dont mind a transfer on the train line. Does anyone know any good areas within 30-40 minutes (or less) to Fujigaoka Station? If anyone has any tips I'd greatly appreciate it, as Ive never been past the Sakae area of Nagoya!
5.7 in Nara felt as a 3 in Ise. could hear the ground growling for 20 seconds before the shaking.
Worst one I've ever felt in Ise since living here. Only other one I've really felt was the new years day one (Noto?) a few years ago.
