🆘️ Lancaster Animal Care Center in California is reportedly preparing for another mass euthanasia this weekend, placing dozens of dogs at imminent risk. Among them are several gentle, loving mastiffs who have done nothing to deserve this fate. Without immediate intervention from adopters, fosters, or rescues, many of these dogs are expected to lose their lives by Sunday. Time is critically short, and these dogs need urgent help now to have any chance at survival.🆘️

💜 Volunteer Notes:

I met Romeo briefly two days ago and he is a love bug ❤️ he knows sit and pottied as soon as we got outside so likely potty trained. He was very excited to get out but as soon as I showed him the treats he was so good at focusing as well! I don’t know why I didn’t get videos. I didn’t expect him to get on the list so soon 🥲. He has the cutest little scruff around his snout, too, like 2% Schnauzer or something that you can only see in person. Please someone give him a chance!

🔷 Intake:

Property manager states that there is an injured stray dog, big black pit bull with white chest, injured in the leg at apartment complex.

📝 Shelter Notes:

Dog is at the front of the kennel ready to go outside, presents a wiggly body wagging tail. Holds a semi-tight leash, low tail wag and neutral body as we walk out to the runs.

During morning feedings, he attempted to bolt out of his kennel but was stopped by my leg and pushed back into his kennel. He did a good job keeping his kennel clean.

Romeo was walked on a tight leash due to him forward pulling on the leash and jumping on me occasionally while walking to the outside runs.

Romeo presents a neutral body, neutral facial features, and wagging tail.

Romeo greeted me at the gate with an open mouth smile, wiggling body, ears up, and fast wagging tail. He was leashed very easily and walked on a semi-loose leash; pulling on the leash in multiple directions slightly. He paid little attention to other dogs and likes treats, pets, and attention.

While spot cleaning, noticed that Romeo was very relaxed and calm in his kennel on his cot. I walked in to zip tie his cone, he allowed me to pet him and he sat down in front of me as I was zip tying his cone. I gave him a few more pets, dropped some treats on his cot and left his kennel.

Moved to treatment today: He's been quiet in his kennel. I've observed him playing with his enrichment and laying in his bed. When I went to clean his cone he had a wiggly body and an open mouth smile. He was easy to control while cleaning his cone, and received kibble treats for good behavior.

PM note: upon attempting to spot clean, dog was overly aroused, mounting me and kept ignoring treats including chicken.

During morning feedings, Romeo would jump up on his hind legs with his paws raised and attempted to land on me. He presented with an open mouth smile, fast wagging tail, ears up, soft eyes, and wiggling body.

He did a good job keeping his kennel clean. Romeo was walked on a tight leash due to him forward pulling on the leash and jumping on me and around me occasionally while walking to the outside runs. On the way back, Romeo was aroused on the leash; spinning in circles and walking behind me, forward pulling on the leash in multiple directions. I offered him some treats to redirect him into walking normally but he continued the action until I placed him in his kennel.

3/31/2026: Timid. Walks slowly on leash but follows with baby talk.

4/5/2026: During morning feedings, Aubrey attempted to bolt out of their run but was stopped by me and pulled back into their kennel. Later in the afternoon, I walked her on a loose leash and neutral to and from the outside runs. I gave her a few pets and treats and she ate them quickly from my hand before leaving her run.

4/6/2026: Aubrey was walked on a loose leash and neutral to and from the outside runs in the afternoon. She enjoyed the pets and treat trail I gave her on the way to the outside runs. Throughout the day Aubrey was quiet, friendly, and slept most of the day on her cot.

4/7/2026: Aubrey was walked on a loose leash and neutral to and from the outside runs. She presented with a fast wagging tail, ears up, open mouth smile, soft eyes, and wiggling body. She enjoyed the pets and treat trail I gave her on the way to the outside runs. Throughout the day Aubrey was quiet, friendly, and slept most of the day on her cot.

🚑 Medical Notes:

3/30/2026: Weighed 48.0 lbs. Intake condition severe. Healing wounds on face noted. Right ear (AD) had a healed previous hematoma with mild scarring and cauliflowering of the pinnae. Left eye (OS) had mucoid discharge / conjunctivitis. Heartworm test low positive. Vaccinated (DA2PP-V, Bordetella, Rabies 1 year), dewormed, flea prevention applied. Started Terramycin BID x 10 days for left eye conjunctivitis.

4/3/2026: Slight limp noted on front left leg while in kennel. Placed on vet eval for further evaluation.

4/4/2026: BAR, friendly. Mildly (grade 2/6) lame in front end (left). Differential includes soft tissue injury, sprain, or fracture. Started Carprofen 75 mg SID x 7 days. Continue to monitor.

4/7/2026: dog was laying down and as i leashed her she had whale eyes and then try to dart out but due to her having the leash she got pulled back and then she pancaked and as i offered treats she still was laying down had to carry her outside and she pottied then stood next to me and then i carried her back inside to her kennel.

4/8/2026: Dog is in the back of the kennel tensed body, whale eyes and tail pressed against body. Leashing she is hesitant on walking out, she got up and tried to dart out but stopped at the kennel door and darted back to the back of the kennel. Was able to baby talk her out of the kennel and she walked out to the runs

Hey everyone! My partner and I adopted this fella (Smudge) from a Humane Society near us a few months back. He is such a playful bouncing baby boi, he has a short double coat and he scream barks lol

His ears alternate between being floppy and suspended mid air and he also does a lil 360 turn with his head

Any ideas? We were thinking maybe some sort of herding breed + lab or hound? Husky pit?

I also added a picture with him and his litter mate if that helps!
