Am I wrong?

I just had a weird experience with a buyer about an item I listed at around 87$. Mind you, this figure is being resold nearly 100-200$, so a lot of people are interested but this one person sent an offer at 67$, I counter offered at 79$. They send me a message saying they are super interested but don’t have enough to buy it. I offered a middle ground but quickly changed my mind due to wanting to stay firm with my first counter offer. They were still interested on buying but asked if it could be held; but i don’t do holds.

Their response was “Just for one day? thats too bad.” I responded on why due to having already a bad experience with another buyer who couldn’t afford one of my listings, (which btw i took 15% off already for them.) then come back to lowball me a day later.

They proceeded to say “I’m not that person who did that and a good seller would allow holds but you don’t wanna change your mind”

Am I wrong for thinking this was passive aggressive? I gave them a clear response of hey, this figure is already being resold way higher than I have it up, holding it has no benefit to me. Said i’m sorry and that i don’t feel comfortable selling it to them anymore and quickly blocked.

It doesn’t help that i click on their profile and they were selling the same brand of figures way over their retail price, my girlfriend assumes they wanted to lowball me to resell but i doubted it.

Sorry for the yap, I just started selling and i’ve already had two bad experiences. I didn’t think it’d be so overwhelming for me and I hate being a jerk 😭

Mercari is absolutely unreal

I purchased some shorts using my debit card, the listing didn't disclose any issues that arrived terribly stained last month. Like, nobody would ever want to wear these in public bad. I filed a return, and got automatically refunded it said in the pop up, no mention of it being credit in that message.

I didn't realize that they refunded me in credit instead of my original payment method, though it says on the orders page that they did, I didn't look at it until now since I assumed I'd just get refunded through my bank based on the pop up message. Definitely my mistake not catching it then. I've hardly bought anything on Mercari and actually returned something to have known.

A couple of weeks later, I had problems with stained and holed shirts from something else I ordered, they also didn't let me know of those issues in the listing. I filed a return and after the entire ordeal that was sending it back, got refunded yesterday. I noticed I received some of it back in credit. After contacting customer service through email, I discovered that I was never refunded the amount from the shorts to my original payment method and this sale used that credit. I'm pressing them to return the amount to my original payment.

The customer service person I'm speaking to currently has been going back and forth with me, and when I mentioned I have the charge for that amount on my bank statement, they asked for a screenshot. The charge on my statement is dated 4 days after the purchase.
The CS person essentially responded back saying they checked, there is no purchase showing that amount on the charged date and thank you for my understanding.
I let them know about my purchase date 4 days before the charge, a screenshot of it, and that charges can occur days after an initial purchase.
They respond to me by saying I was already refunded that amount to my bank account.
There is no such deposit of that amount in my statements or the posted section of my account, just the charge on the date 4 days after my purchase date.

I'm so disgusted right now at the way Mercari works.

Can’t believe I fell for this

Thought I would give it a chance since I haven’t sold in weeks, but of course they just ended up wasting my time

Seller cancelled my order as soon as I asked when it would be shipped (a week had gone by)

Dozens and dozens of cancellations in this seller's history and I can't leave a review. Why does Mercari allow this type of shit on their platform? If this were eBay, this person's feedback would be tanked to low numbers and their sales dried up.

Instead, this person has 5 STAR FEEDBACK because these cancellations lock buyers out from rating. Absolutely insane. Adding in all the fees required just to purchase on the site and it's clear they don't want buyers around.

would mercari honor partial refund if seller and buyer agree on price ?

i bought a ipod nano 3rd gen for $65 and when i charged it … two vertical white lines on left side of screen we’re present :( not disclosed in listing. also looking back the ipod isn’t on in photo 😅

i message the seller and let him know before submitting refund request. he tells me this likely happened during shipment. my dad says that sounds off as the lines are usually lcd issue and it’s an old device😅 it was also packaged in bubble wrap and poly mailer which i included in the refund request

i know partial refunds are rare but .. if we can agree on a price would mercari allow it ?? i was thinking $20-35 back since ill have to replace the screen .. if i had known there were lines i wouldnt of bought it in first place. id keep if i got some money back though.

the button is a little wonky too i have to press hard for the menu 😭 had to wipe it down

has anyone ever done partial refund ? if so how did it work out ? and should i just return the ipod.. 🫩 thank you!

Considering selling

I hope this is under the right tag, but I’m considering getting into selling some stuff that we no longer use/have use for in the house (clothes we no longer wear/fit, miscellaneous baby items in good condition, etc.) mostly for what we call ‘fun money’ - like our daughter NEEDS that new toy, we splurge on a nicer dinner, I’m big into Lego’s so maybe a small new set I’ve been eyeing- all that jazz

I have a coworker who does it here and there but not really helpful, mostly “I don’t know I post stuff and people buy and I ship” so I’m wondering, where do I start? I don’t expect to make tons of money overnight, or tons of money in general.

Any tips and tricks are so much appreciated!

Pls be nice I’m just a guy trying to make a little extra money to have a little fun TIA 😁

For anyone who "took advantage" of the $4.99 shipping promo. If your shiping has since been auto updated incorrectly and you manually fixed it, has it unfixed itself again? I am having lot's of issues even with incorrect USPS prices and USPS wasn't even involved.

I was really supportive of the UPS / Fedex $4.99 promo and my sales did benefit (I know a mixed bag for others) but what a nightmare it has been now. All my $4.99 ups listings auto updated to $9.99 so I manually went in and corrected to $7.97 (if my items dimesions and weights allowed but I only sell relatively small items)some have gone back to $9.99.

My USPS 12 oz packages that are still showing that I correctly entered 12oz but at least half are showing $6.99 instead of $6.29. This is maddening and I am a small seller. I don't know how sellers with hundreds of listings are dealing with this.

Why can't I just buy an item at full price on mercari?!

I sell on mercari but right now I'm trying to buy something and there is literally no option to just buy it outright.. It forces me to make an offer. Did anyone else know this?? Is this only on the app? I haven't checked on my computer.. Knowing people have to place an offer to buy from me is kind of frustrating.

Just need to vent….

So for reference, I’m a seasoned seller on multiple platforms. I have thousands of five star reviews. I have never had a bad one. No, I am not bragging. This is just for reference anyways I bought something from an individual it showed up with the Goodwill tag still on it and filthy. I stupidly went ahead and gave a woman a five star review just because I don’t know just because anyways in return I get a one star review. For response time I literally rated her one hour after receiving a package anyways she messages me and tells me it happened by mistake and she’ll get it fixed now I know this is probably stupid to some people. But that one one star review is absolutely killing Me. I mean, I go above and beyond in my business. Spend a lot of money just to ship free gifts all that anyways so we go back-and-forth she assures me. She’s gonna get it changed well after two weeks they message me and tell me they’ve even tried to contact her and nothing so when I messaged her today and told her that she had not bothered to respond to them. Because that is what they said. She used that right there and said well that’s why you deserve one star and I’m not changing it. Wtf. I have no understanding she’s had multiple reviews where she’s just scummy selling dirty garbage she’s been knocked for being rude everything you could think of. And I can’t help but feel like she saw all my five star reviews and done it intentionally. I mean, why would you not go and change that even after I told her how much it meant to me anyways, and then she blocked me are you serious keyboard warrior you’re all tough behind that screen. I’m just furious and of course they act like they can’t do anything. I even screenshot it it where she said she made a mistake. It needs to be changed anyways like I said I’ll probably seem petty to some, but it means a lot to me when I work so hard I just don’t understand why people have to be trash. I know we have a rating system, but we should be able to put together a black ball list people or sellers that are just terrible. I think we should be able to put them on blast even here, but that’ll probably never happen. It’s a pipe drain Anyways thank you for listening. Hopefully you don’t have to encounter any garbage like this.

DMCA take down - file a counter notice or not?

Just got a message from Mercari saying one of my listings was removed due to a DMCA complaint. The item is 100% authentic. I bought it from the store and it’s brand new and I listed it as new. Also I used photos I took. For anyone has similar experience, did you file a counter notice? I don’t want to risk my account getting limited, but at the same time it feels unfair since there are other people selling similar items from the same brand. Any advice would be appreciated!

What do I even do about this (missing mail saga) (please read)

(TLDR: sent package on March 30 that had zero update for 2 weeks and despite trying to find out what happened it was still missing so buyer canceled. Now suddenly tracking info that never existed has appeared saying it’s been delivered after order cancellation and the dates are all wrong)

I sent a package to a buyer on the 30th of March (same day shipping) via my local Office Depot USPS pickup box. I don’t have a working printer at home so I print the prepaid label there and then send. It was before 5 pm (USPS pickup time) so I should’ve gotten an intake scan very soon after. I almost always send my packages at Office Depot and have never had problems, they always collect the packages super quick. I unfortunately did not ask for a receipt to confirm drop off.

A few days later I’m contacted by my buyer about no tracking update and realize it’s almost the end of the week with not even an intake scan (only update on tracking is the tracking # being created) so I ask to wait a few days to see if it gets an update.

Some more time later I go to the Office Depot to ask if they somehow still have the package, employee searches behind the employee desk and in the drop off box and it’s not there. After this I submit a missing mail request and put the buyers address as the address to be shipped to if it’s found.

About a week after this and there’s still zero update on tracking/missing mail request. I go to the Office Depot again and request to see records/CCTV footage on the day i shipped confirming the package was collected. For some reason they didn’t have CCTV footage being filmed on the day I sent it. So dead end there. Same day I go to the USPS office directly to ask about the package, give the tracking info and they tell me the only thing they see on their end is the missing mail request.

Because it’s been 15 days since the buyer bought the package with no update they request refund and the order gets cancelled. I inquire to Mercari about what I’m supposed to do and they say with no tracking update nothing can really be done and to simply wait longer to see. So since then I’ve basically given up on getting my item/money back.

UNTIL TODAY. NOW EVERYTHING HAS BECOME EVEN MORE CONFUSING.

I went to my USPS account to check the status of the missing mail request and tracking information, and now out the blue the tracking information is there. Like it was always there. Like it has a whole timeline of stuff that was never there before for almost a month. It also says it was delivered to the buyer, despite never getting an update and the dates are all WRONG.

In the timeline it says the shipping label was created on the 25th, which isn’t correct. The buyer bought the item on the 30th and I shipped it the same day. Then the most egregious part is the tracking saying it was shipped to the buyer on the 31st of March, which is literally impossible because I shipped it on the 30th.

So what the hell is happening? Is USPS making up fake tracking information? This info isn’t right and even if it was delivered the dates are impossible per the actual timeline and make no sense. And what’s more, my missing mail search has no update at all saying they found it despite its status as missing and the tracking info page, which previously had the red flair on it claiming a request had been filed, has been wiped from this new tracking info, almost like it was never there? I’m genuinely so confused and this has gone from a simple missing mail to something much stranger. Like what do I do? If it was actually delivered to the buyer (which feels unlikely), they cancelled so how do I get my money back? Can I even file a claim with this tracking info since it’s clearly incorrect and makes no sense?? I’ve never lost a package much less had something this strange happen so please help 😭

Low ball buyer wants me to ship immediately

Against my better judgement, I accepted a lowball offer last night. Sales have slowed since the shipping deal expired and I’d like to keep inventory moving. First thing this morning, low baller said - you’ll be shipping today right? I was planning more like tomorrow and technically have 3 business days. I feel like the only right answer is yes otherwise there goes a star or two. Are these red flags and should I cancel the order? I feel like if there was urgency to get it that should have been communicated in advance or perhaps purchased sooner…

Why would an item be priced higher than Amazon?

I don’t understand, I’m looking at a certain loungefly bag, it’s $80 on Amazon. It’s over $100 from everyone on Mercari even up to $150. There is one I saw that’s $70, but even then why would I pay the same (after fees etc) on Mercari than on Amazon? I feel like it would have to be $50 for me to even consider giving up the ability to return it, and the knowledge that it’s been wrapped up in a warehouse and not out in somebodies house I don’t know. And they all say price firm etc, who’s buying anything like this?

Return to sender

It’s been a fiasco.

I sold an item on April 9 and shortly after, the buyer messaged me saying she accidentally put her old address and no longer lives there. She asked if I could change it. I told her I couldn’t change the address on my end and that she would need to cancel and repurchase with the correct address, then I’d ship it out again.

She said it was fine and maybe UPS could just hold the package and they’ve done it before. At that point I probably should’ve just canceled it myself if I realized it was gonna be this much of a hassle. Lesson learned. She also probably should’ve listened to my advice too but oh well.

So the package was already in transit. On delivery day, surprise surprise, tracking says they were unable to deliver it (most likely because she doesn’t live there anymore) and that it’s being returned to sender.

Now the tracking hasn’t updated in five days.

Should I call UPS or just wait it out? Would love advice from anyone who’s dealt with this before because I feel like this could’ve been avoided 🙃

Bundles

Someone just bought 2 items from me in a bundle. I can't send one of the items right away. Does anyone know if it's possible to cancel just one item from the order?

seriously mercari???

has anyone else noticed that some of their listings they posted with $4.59 have now gone up to $5.49 without touching it?? but it’s only for like some of the listings while others are still at the $4.59 I listed it at. These slimey little updates to make everything more expensive are really angering me. I’m trying to sell all the items I still have and then I’m done with this app. It’s absolutely ridiculous. I have thousands of items, I don’t want to have to change them all back going through EACH AND EVERY ONE back to $4.59 just so my buyer’s can save because of mercari’s stupid updates messing things up or causing glitches, seemingly happening under our noses.

Someone let me know if I’m missing some big update or if this also happened to you.

Shipped out packages with the wrong weight through USPS…

I am an idiot. I just shipped them out, one was off by 7 oz one was off by A WHOLE POUND. The USPS guy said it may not be an issue but if it is they’ll make the buyers pick the packages up from the post office and pay a difference.

I messaged my buyers about it and let them know that may potentially happen and I’ll comp them out the difference. Do you guys think USPS will actually care?? Like I feel like they will and I’ll be inconveniencing the hell out of my buyers and I feel so bad. I obviously already let them know and that I will comp whatever postage is owed.

I just feel so bad. I had no idea it’d be a huge issue. I feel like this is common enough though I mean not everyone has a scale and my guesses were not that bad or inaccurate.

I feel so bad regardless. Can anyone help/has anyone been dumb enough to do this before? Did the package still get to the buyer just fine or did they have to pay a fee? I just said to them be prepared for that to happen but it might not. If it does, i’ll comp out whatever postage fee incurs. I just feel awful because these are my first two sales and I don’t immediately want to have horrible ratings. I put so much effort i to packaging them all nice too ughh.

Please help😭😭

What to do?

This buyer purchased my product last night, I spent time boxing it up and getting it all ready for shipping today. I’m about to head to the post office to ship, and now he messaged me asking to cancel it after he already bought it, and I have a fully sealed package. Really frustrating. Do I just cancel it and deal with it? Or do I risk just getting a bad review and shipping it out
