Where do college-age people make friends over the summer??

Okay does anyone else feel like there’s barely any fun/social stuff for people in that awkward college-age stage 😭

Like yes I know we’re all supposed to be getting jobs/internships and doing “productive” things over the summer, but aside from that… what do people DO 😭

I never really got to do camps or activities growing up, and now I just want something low stakes and social, especially around Chicago/Edgewater/Rogers Park. Honestly I mostly just want people to play volleyball with for fun even though I’m not that good 💀

Are there groups, rec leagues, programs, anything like that for college-age people that are affordable and beginner-friendly?

Party scene

What is the party scene like at Loyola? I’m attending in the fall and I feel like maybe I made the wrong decision choosing Loyola since it’s more bar based from what I’ve heard.

Burnt out and worried ill lose my scholarship

Since grade 9 i got the top of my class ,and in my summer vacation i studied a years worth of content so i can graduate in g11 ( worst idea ) i ended up missing alot of classes and had to spend my winter break and any break to catch up not to mention i have a lot of ecs . I could barely manage my time and ended up having shortness of breath, my hair thinning and always had acne. Now that i got accepted with a huge scholarship to loyola i decided to prioritize my mental health but now that i already took one exam and did so bad im extremely worried becs i was supposed to get an A* now im worried im going to get a C , i already sat that exam and worried sick that i will lose my scholarship becs i now my parents cant afford to pay for tuition

Was wondering if anyone else has been in my situation

Edit: for more context i think i spent a year off 3 hrs of sleep and not eating well becs i was convinced i should put that time to studying, and ofcourse i have no social skills or friends i felt really lonely the only time i went out was for ecs where i interacted with ppl younger than me

BUT when i prioritized my mental health i found my ppl and felt much better either ways i already sat my exam and ignored my studies now im worried ill lose that scholarship and didnt continue to work hard like i knew i should

Pre-Med Chemistry Major at Loyola University Chicago… is the chemistry department really that bad?

Hi, I’m considering transferring to Loyola University Chicago as a chemistry major on the pre-med track because it’s one of the cheaper options for me besides Arizona State University. The cost difference is only around $3k, and I honestly really like Loyola and the idea of being in Chicago. I also think chemistry fits me better than biology since I’m stronger at math and feel like I’d enjoy it more.

But I’ve seen a lot of negative comments online about Loyola’s chemistry department and now I’m stressing out. I know GPA is super important for med school, and I’m worried about whether it would be hard to get good grades there or if the department would make pre-med unnecessarily difficult.

For anyone who went to Loyola for chemistry/pre-med (or knows people who did), was it actually that bad? Were professors supportive? Is it possible to maintain a strong GPA if you work hard? Did you feel prepared for the MCAT/med school applications? I’d really appreciate honest experiences because I’m feeling super conflicted right now.

PSYC 101

High School senior and an incoming Rambler majoring in Nursing Major. How is Psyc 101 course at LUC? Is it demanding? I have the option to take this class at the community college this summer and maybe able to use the credit to skip this course. Counselor is suggesting to take this at LUC. Do you learn at lot at this class and beneficial to have it taken at LUC?

I honestly wish I had seen reviews like this before using them.

As a college student during move-out week, you’re already stressed and trying to figure everything out quickly, and this company completely took advantage of that. They make the pricing sound reasonable at first, but once they already have your stuff, random “extra item” charges suddenly start showing up and the total becomes WAY higher than what you originally paid.

The most ridiculous one was getting charged $140 to store a poster tube. Literally a poster tube with some cheap posters inside. When we complained and asked if they could just throw it away instead, they said the disposal fee would ALSO be $140. That’s insane.

They were also super misleading about pickup. They advertise “door to door” service, so we specifically asked if they were allowed to come up into dorm rooms, and they told us yes. Then on move-out day they suddenly couldn’t come upstairs at all, so we ended up carrying everything ourselves anyway in the middle of move-out chaos. If we had known that from the beginning, we never would’ve used them.

Customer service was also exhausting to deal with. It took so much repeated messaging just to get actual answers, and even then a lot of the information ended up being wrong. At one point I literally asked them, “Is this AI?” because the responses felt so weird and unhelpful.

Overall the whole thing felt really predatory toward college students who are stressed, busy, and just trying to store their stuff for the summer. Please be careful before using this company because the final price can end up being WAY more than what they make it seem like upfront.

I was recently accepted to both Fordham's and Loyola Chicago's MSW programs and am trying to decide between the two. I was initially leaning towards Loyola because Chicago is definitely less expensive than NYC, but I've heard that the leadership has been rather disorganized recently. I have connections in either city, so I am not worried about that, and luckily the price is not a concern.

I just want to make sure I will feel prepared for the LCSW exam and be well set up with internships during and after the program.

Can anyone provide insight?

Business student

Hi, I’m transferring into Loyola and was wondering
if people live downtown near the business school or live near lakeshore campus? As a transfer student I prefer the campus environment as it’s easier to make friends, but I don’t know how far the commute is to class.

Hi! I’m from Arizona, trying to decide between staying in-state or going out-of-state for undergrad as a biology pre-med. I

got into Loyola University Chicago, and after scholarships and grants, I’d still be paying about $20,600 per year since the total cost is around $77k, and I received about $50k in aid plus $5.5k in federal loans.

For comparison, my in-state option is Arizona State University, where the total cost of attendance is about $35k. I got around $11.9k in free aid and $6.5k in federal student loans, leaving about $16.6k per year remaining, which would likely require Parent PLUS loans or out-of-pocket payment (which isn't realistic for me right now).

I’m planning to work part-time (probably as a CNA or any job I can find) to help cover costs. I’m pre-med and understand that debt is part of the process, so I’m more focused on whether the extra cost is worth it for the environment, opportunities, and overall experience, especially since I really want to leave Arizona and I’m more drawn to Loyola and being in Chicago. Do you think paying around $20k/year for Loyola is worth it in this situation, or is it smarter to stay in-state, which I'm already dreading?

0.5% to the next grade with a few courses

Do the professors usually round up or add points if you tell them you are 0.5% near the next grade? Or do you guys just take it as it is?

Hey everyone, looking for honest advice or people who’ve been in a similar situation.

I’m finishing my freshman year at Loyola University Chicago with a 3.5 GPA. I’m currently in the business school but honestly I don’t think business is what I actually want. I came to Loyola for the social experience but I commute from home and it’s been isolating. I feel like I’ve just been suffering through my classes rather than actually enjoying learning.

I’ve been seriously considering transferring to Northwestern’s Weinberg College junior year so applying spring 2027 for fall 2027 enrollment. I’m drawn to either English or Economics, and potentially the Kellogg finance certificate. Long term I’m interested in teaching which is why the education path at SESP also appeals to me.

My concerns are:
1. Is transferring junior year actually worth it or is it too late to get the full experience?

2.	Would two years of business at Loyola hurt my application if I’m applying for English or Econ?

3.	Has anyone transferred to Weinberg specifically? What were your stats and how was the transition?

4.	Is the financial aid at Northwestern actually as good as they say for low income students?

I have a year to build my application — what would you focus on if you were me?

Any honest input appreciated, especially from actual transfer students.

Hello. I'm an incoming freshman at LUC and I was wondering if the institution generally accepts 3s on AP exams as elective credits instead of core credits.

Since I'm new to this whole thing, any advice on credit transfer helps too.

Thanks!

Hi guys! I’m so scared right now for my transfer application to nursing program in Loyola. I applied in March and haven’t heard from them at all. I did call and ask them when will the result be out and they said maybe in May but I’m still kinda scared.

I believe I have really good GPA for my prereqs (4.0 GPA) and a few extra curricular activities on my profile (clubs, volunteer in hospital, tutoring) and my essays were okayish, I hope. I am studying in California as an international student and am applying as external transfer to the program. Loyola is the only school I applied to for this admission season. I read that the school has quite a good admit rate in general, but I also heard that Loyola is quite picky for their nursing program, so now I’m scared if my profile is good enough or not.

Has anyone applied as an external transfer to their nursing program got their result back yet?

I’m a senior in highschool that’s planning to attend loyola in the fall and recently just commited. I got a good amount of merit aid and its the only way I can afford to go to loyola, but my second semester grades are pretty bad. I have 1 D and am worried that my merit aid will be removed. Has this ever happened to anyone?
