Make my living room cozier?

Make my living room cozier?

I feel my living room feels kind of cold, or uninspired, maybe?

One specific critique I have is that I think my rug might be too small. How much bigger should it be? Any thoughts as to another color rug instead of this cream one?

What are your thoughts to improve my living room? It could be purchasing things, rearranging things, getting rid of stuff, etc. However, I won’t be painting any walls or changing the vinyl flooring.

Any thoughts, critiques, or suggestions are welcome!

Thanks! 💖

Advice for tidy storage on here?

I can only upload one photo but basically there are 3 open shelves and 2 drawers. We're using the bottom shelf for toilet paper and the drawers for toiletries. We want the top 2 open shelves to look tidy as well as being practical. I was thinking of a couple of small woven basket type things to put spare soaps etc but any advice appreciated of how we could use these shelves in an aesthetic as well as practical way

New house- no idea where to start with kitchen!

Hello everybody 🙂

We just purchased this house and this kitchen needs some updates..

The flooring is junky and ugly in my opinion.

The island situation is very strange with the way it’s angled. There is a dishwasher there.

Looking for general ideas for where to take this!

Not looking to spend a ton right away- just to get it to a place where it feels cozy and well put together.

Any ideas are extremely appreciated 😀

Help...no idea how to resolve this space

We get the keys and need to start fixing up the home so we can move in (I have a 3month old and 3yo - perfect time to finally buy a house 😑). The master bedroom layout makes no sense to me... The ensuite has no door and not enough room for a door to swing inward or outward. You literally can see the toilet while in bed 🤢.

The built in robe is tiny so won't fit all our clothes.

I'd love some suggestions on how to make this space works.. a door on the bathroom for starters (we were considering a barn door but feel it may not be insulted enough)... And more space to store clothes.

Thanks so much in advance.

Help decide which floor to choose

Counters our concrete that are stained a dark brown, similar to the one in the photo. They cannot be changed at this time. Love white oak, but trying to decide if it's the right or wrong floor for the space?

Reading Nook Ideas?

Here’s a blank canvas, please give me more ideas on how to make this more cozy and green. After doing this it still feels a little empty and devoid of color.

First time living in a studio. Need design advice

Hi! I’m moving to an expensive city and can only afford to rent a studio for now. It’s a bigger studio at 41sqm but still a studio nonetheless. I don’t love having everything in one room so I want to create the illusion of having a separate living room and bedroom.

The photos I’ve added are screenshots from a video I took. Think of it as panning from left to right.

- What I love: Open floor plan, definitely a lot of space for a studio
- What I don’t love: I want separate spaces (living/reception, bedroom). I think the black furniture’s coming off too strong. I don’t wanna spend too much on replacing furniture that’s already there as much as possible but if there’s no way to make what’s available work, then I’ll find cheaper furniture on fb marketplace.
- What’s missing. i need a work desk, maybe a vanity, if there’s still space maybe a small dining area but not a priority as I can eat on the couch TBBT-style. Ideally more wardrobe space since I have lots of stuff haha

My ideas so far:

- First photo (window): thinking of adding cushions to make it a cozy reading nook/mini baywindow situation
- Third photo (couch with the square center table, it’s actually storage): I don’t love the couch. I wanna replace it with a sofa bed. I don’t know how to make the center table work either. It’s definitely useful storage, but it feels so awkward there.
- Fourth photo (bed): I think the chest of drawers is awkward but I definitely need the storage. The black bed frame’s coming off a bit too strong as well. Most importantly, I’m thinking of adding a partition to create a “bedroom” so that my “living room” / “reception” isn’t in the same place as my bedroom.

Any other ideas/tips? TIA!

Hi all, I’ve been playing around with how to arrange my room and i just couldn’t figure it out. AI isn’t very helpful either. I was hoping this subreddit could help give me ideas on the best way to utilize my room. Thank you all.

Window dressing help

Hey everyone. First time poster, long time admirer, definitely can’t call myself an interior designer.

Please excuse the mess in the photo! We renovated our kitchen recently, and I want to find some sort of window covering. I really hate the windows on the left but am not really prepared to replace them.

I like the idea of linen cafe curtains but can’t work out the right point for the pole to sit. I’ve considered blinds to cover the ugly handles but I’m not sure how practical this will be or if it will be too stark and it needs a bit of softness.

How would you dress these windows?

Thoughts on the Paneling?

My husband and I are in escrow on this house with beautiful and well maintained wood paneling. That said, the paneling isn’t super our style, but we are open to being convinced. Our initial thought was to put drywall over it, leave the open beams and leave the natural wood framing (similar to what you see through the hallway).

We don’t want to be like the people that covered up beautiful wood floors decades ago with laminate though.

From research we did, drywall is one of the safer ways to keep the wood preserved (vs paint for example). To make it a hair more complex, we do really want to honor the old owner and her legacy. She owned the property for many years and was a great person before passing away.

Would love perspectives on:
-Is it wrong to potentially cover the wood and leave some pieces exposed?
-If we cover it, is there a safer way to preserve the wood underneath?
-If you kept it as it is, would love any inspiration on how to design the space and make it feel cozy

ETA: The floor is LVP and goes through the entire home, unfortunately removal isn’t an immediate option and we aren’t sure what floor is underneath or its condition. Interestingly, the floor looks really nice in all the other rooms and is more of a light tan (not gray). I suspect because the wood walls are so warm that it’s leeching some of the color from the flooring if that makes sense.

Kitchen wrap

Hey!
I need some help choosing which wrap foil to use for my kitchen cabinets and what colour combinations would work best. I have greyish laminate floors and want something that gives a nice contrast without making the space feel too cold.

Does anyone have experience with wrapping a kitchen? Any tips or advice would be really appreciated.

Also, would you recommend keeping the walls a single colour or using wallpaper? If wallpaper, what styles work well with wrapped kitchen cabinets?

Bathroom Paint

I’m going for a clean, cozy, slightly upscale, slightly vintage look in my bathroom. I love Scandinavian styles and Japanese minimalism, and also vintage French design. It’s a small bathroom with no exterior windows.

Two questions!

  1. I’m debating between Swiss Coffee and White Dove for the walls. The shower tiles I chose are bright white, with a “Snow White” grout. Would one of these work better?

  2. Is there a way to get these exact colors cheaper than purchasing the actual brand? But still have the same quality color?

(These images are from the company’s website, to give an idea of swatch colors and tile color)

What nightstand color should I choose?

This image is AI generated so I could get a visual of this and I wanted some opinions! Okay so I purchase a walnut kana bed frame from flexispot and I am purchased a curved black dresser with brass knobs that has this gorgeous wood grain look to it. Similar to the photo. I have green lamps that have a green glass base but a white shade. Now I need to figure out what color nightstands would go well? I was thinking not green or black because I don’t want the room to feel cave like. Any ideas? Do we like the light oak? Green is my accent color so I will have some green throw pillows and I don’t think I want green or black nightstands. Looking for something modern or contemporary

Mural painting for bedroom

I’m painting my baby’s nursery room and this is the first time I’m doing any type of mural, I’m very excited about the whole project but looking for advice on what type of painting should I use?

Basically it’s going to be a space theme and I’m gonna be painting little stars, planets and rockets. For the base colour I’ll be using low VOC, low odour and water based paint. However for the characters I found online that acrylic is a good idea as colours would be more vibrant and I won’t be needing lots of paint for it. Could someone advise?

Please help my room is too small

My room is too small and the furniture is too big, it ends up making the whole space congested and I genuinely want to get rid of some of the stuff but I can't

floor lamp option

recently sourced this obelisk base floor lamp from marketplace but was missing the glass globe.
I could easily source a new glass globe (was thinking a smoky or amber glass).
curious if anyone has any other ideas that may look cooler than a glass globe.
