First time living in a studio. Need design advice
Hi! I’m moving to an expensive city and can only afford to rent a studio for now. It’s a bigger studio at 41sqm but still a studio nonetheless. I don’t love having everything in one room so I want to create the illusion of having a separate living room and bedroom.
The photos I’ve added are screenshots from a video I took. Think of it as panning from left to right.
- What I love: Open floor plan, definitely a lot of space for a studio
- What I don’t love: I want separate spaces (living/reception, bedroom). I think the black furniture’s coming off too strong. I don’t wanna spend too much on replacing furniture that’s already there as much as possible but if there’s no way to make what’s available work, then I’ll find cheaper furniture on fb marketplace.
- What’s missing. i need a work desk, maybe a vanity, if there’s still space maybe a small dining area but not a priority as I can eat on the couch TBBT-style. Ideally more wardrobe space since I have lots of stuff haha
My ideas so far:
- First photo (window): thinking of adding cushions to make it a cozy reading nook/mini baywindow situation
- Third photo (couch with the square center table, it’s actually storage): I don’t love the couch. I wanna replace it with a sofa bed. I don’t know how to make the center table work either. It’s definitely useful storage, but it feels so awkward there.
- Fourth photo (bed): I think the chest of drawers is awkward but I definitely need the storage. The black bed frame’s coming off a bit too strong as well. Most importantly, I’m thinking of adding a partition to create a “bedroom” so that my “living room” / “reception” isn’t in the same place as my bedroom.
Any other ideas/tips? TIA!
