(NOT A SHITPOST) Does anybody have experience with putting thermometer in anus for heat training?

I am a rower (and do a ton of zwift-ing for overuse injury prevention) and am going to be racing in 95+ degree fahrenheit and humid conditions in about 4 weeks. I've been doing somewhat primitive heat training (layering up and just going off of feel @~45% ftp) but would like to actually measure my core temp so I can get to and stay in the 38.5-39.5 degree celsius range for getting peak adaptations.

$300 is a lot for the CORE strap, but this thermometer from Home Depot looks like it would fit fairly comfortably several inches up my posterior, and get a more accurate core temp (as it is literally inside my core, and unaffected by food + drink).

Do any of you have experience with putting this/a thermometer up there and how does it compare to other methods for tracking core temp during heat training?

What makes a virtual cycling platform worth paying for?

Why do some riders happily pay for platforms like Zwift while others stick with free alternatives?

I’m currently conducting academic research as part of my Master’s dissertation at the Technical University “Gheorghe Asachi” of Iași (Innovation & Entrepreneurship program), focusing on how riders perceive service quality in platforms like Zwift, MyWhoosh, and similar virtual cycling services.

The study explores:

  • user experience
  • reliability and platform quality
  • personalization
  • social interaction/community feeling
  • and willingness to pay for these services

If you actively use virtual cycling platforms, your perspective would genuinely help this research.

If you build custom workouts you've probably hit this, your warm-up or cool-down is the same across 30 files and you want to tweak it. Editing each one by hand is a nightmare and no existing tool handles it. I built Zwift Tool to fix that, you can bulk-replace any section across all your workouts at once. https://zwifttool.trivedev.uk/ Happy to answer questions or take feedback.

It's snowing in CO today and I need to get a ride in. I have a zwift cog, play controllers and kickr core. I was hoping to use a program (doesn't have to be a game) that is free which will let me virtually shift.

Thanks!

Seeking suggestions for space-saving bike that won't break the bank

Hi, everyone. I got a Sunny under-the-desk bike in March of this year when my doctor suggested low-intensity exercise while I recover from an injury, and I unexpectedly fell in love! I've loved how portable and easy to store it is, and how easy it was to burn calories in comparison to the daily walks which I've had to put on hold. However, it's now starting to slow down and the body is hot to the touch. I've put about 571.4 M on it, and I acknowledge that I may be using it more vigorously than it was intended. I'm under warranty so I could replace it, but I'm afraid the same thing will happen in another month or so.

Can anyone recommend an exercise bike that can take HIIT 30-minute workouts every day but doesn't have a big footprint? (I live in a condo, space is at a premium). I'm open to folding bikes, if you think they can take what I'm dishing out. Thanks so much.

After not wanting to pay for the price increase in Zwift I went to my woosh but now I am going back for a few reasons

  1. no garmin connect data
I was anyone’s as it’s the main way I track training ( I know you can import but it only gives basic data )

  2. the erg is really bad
Compared to Zwift workouts with efforts above 2.5 W/kg the erg is very sensitive and if I reposition and soft peddle for 1 second it throws me in death spiral and is a big pain in the but mentally and also make effective training hard ( I have calibrated trainer before every ride )

  3. my Cadence reads 5 rpm too low

Are cheap fixie bikes actually decent for indoor training or am I overthinking this?

I’ve been using my bike on a smart trainer for structured indoor workouts (mostly zone 2 endurance and occasional intervals). But I’ve been thinking about switching things up and trying cheap fixie bikes just for simple indoor base rides. I keep seeing fixed gear setups used indoors n I’m curious how practical they really are when it comes to maintaining a steady effort over longer sessions. My main question is how people manage intensity without any resistance control. Since everything seems to rely on cadence and gearin, especially when trying to stay in a consistent aerobic zone. I’ve also come across DIY indoor setups where people use basic trainer stands or parts sourced through Alibaba, but I’m not sure if that actually improves ride quality or just adds unnecessary complexity. Another thing Im unsure about is knee strain since there’s no coasting and the pedals are always moving, which seems like it could add up on longer rides. At the same time, the simplicity and low cost compared to a smart trainer is really appealing for basic home training. For anyone who has actually used cheap fixie bikes indoors, do they work well for structured steady rides or are they really just better suited for casual spinning?

RCycle update - free smart training app

I posted a while ago announcing my smart trainer app - I've had some people provide me with some feedback that I've incorporated -- main feature being the ability to see a 'street view' while you're riding, better intelligence connecting to smart trainers, more camera controls and other goodies. I finally got around to making a demo video - this is for the latest version I just released (0.13.2).

I do need more Mac testers - if you have Mac I would love for someone to install it and send screenshots of the steps they took to get it running or let me know if they have any problems. Otherwise, hope you enjoy it.

Sharing this in case it’s useful to anyone here.

The Elite SQUARE comes with a nice little handlebar controller, but most indoor cycling apps don’t currently pair with it directly, which kind of defeats the point.

I built squarectl to bridge that gap: it connects to the SQUARE over Bluetooth, runs in the background, and translates each button press into a keyboard input for whatever app is currently in focus.

It comes with default profiles for Rouvy, Zwift, and MyWhoosh, and you can add or edit mappings with a small TOML file if you want a custom setup.

Free and open source, MIT licensed:
https://github.com/kochka/squarectl

There’s a Windows installer available. macOS/Linux are supported by the codebase, but for now they need to be built from source.

I know Rouvy is expected to add native controller support in an upcoming version, but in the meantime this does the job, and it should still be useful for Zwift, MyWhoosh, or any app that accepts keyboard input.

Not affiliated with Elite, Rouvy, Zwift, or MyWhoosh. I built this for myself and figured I’d share it. Feedback welcome.

For anyone who has used this as part of their training, have you found it beneficial? For example, zone 3 intervals, one minute 60rpm, one minute 100rpm cadence?

I was curious if anyone has heard anything about our ride data from Rouvy & Zwift becoming centralized, so we can have one location for any rides, workouts, events, etc., we've completed with either program. I always agonize when I choose Zwift over Rouvy or Rouvy over Zwift because I am missing out on drops, or XP, etc.

Just me? 😄

when I go to the gym, I have taking a liking to the recumbent bike, I am looking to get one for in-home, but do not need something as serious as a peloton, what’s a good entry -intermediate level bike? Merch pulls up for me but that’s minimal diving

Hello. Can someone explain me how the 20-minute FTP test with warmup in MOWL (Intelligent Cycling) works, how does it get my FTP, atm I have manually set my FTP to 170 in settings as I don't know what it is, but I think that is a fairly close, It says that I need to cycle as hard as I can for a 20 min period in the yellow zone but how does that work, I guess it will be different if have the app set at 170 FTP or 200 FTP, as the yellow will be different wattage then.

I found this used Schwinn Bike and the seller send me these videos. I’m new to this topic and cannot tell anything about the state of it. Although the rattling noise in the video gives me kind of red flag.

Thanks already for any help!
