What actually makes a virtual cycling platform worth paying for?

I’ve been really interested in understanding why some cyclists stay loyal to platforms like Zwift, while others are completely satisfied with free alternatives like MyWhoosh.

For some people it seems to be the community and events, for others the training structure, gamification, reliability, progression systems, or simply how polished the platform feels overall.

I’m currently conducting academic research for my Master’s dissertation at the Technical University “Gheorghe Asachi” of Iași (Innovation & Entrepreneurship program), focusing on how users perceive the quality and value of virtual cycling platforms.

The survey explores topics such as:
• platform quality and reliability
• social/community experience
• personalization and user experience
• long-term usage behavior
• and willingness to pay for virtual cycling services

If you actively use platforms like Zwift, MyWhoosh, TrainerRoad, or similar services, your perspective would genuinely help this research.
