“You’re not a candidate.” → NW7 10-month result with Dr. Sean Benham (5337 grafts, beard + scalp)

10 months post-op and sharing because I was initially told I wasn’t even a candidate. I’m NW6–7 and had 5,337 grafts over 2 days (4,896 scalp, 441 beard) with Dr. Sean Benham in Santa Monica. A year before surgery, he was very direct that my donor area was too weak and that I wouldn’t get a good result—honestly, that’s why I trusted him. I spent a year on topical finasteride + minoxidil (and added laser therapy), slowly improving donor quality until he felt I could proceed, but with realistic expectations.

The procedure itself was incredibly smooth—zero pain with conscious sedation—and he personally did all extractions and site creation, which I think really matters. This isn’t about achieving “perfect density,” it’s about using limited grafts to create a natural frame for the face. From where I started, this result is beyond anything I expected, and we’re planning a second session to add density. Biggest takeaways: candidacy matters, expectations matter even more, and finding an honest surgeon who thinks like an artist is everything.

1 Year In… Was 5500 Grafts Worth It?

Just hit the 1-year mark and I can finally say I’m glad I did it. I had 5,500 grafts transplanted in Ankara, Turkey. The first few months really test your patience, especially the shock loss phase—it can make you overthink a bit. But over time, the hair starts to come in and things gradually improve.

At this point, the results look quite natural and satisfying.

What do you think? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

2 month update - HLC Ankara - How we looking?

Hit the 2 month mark today, 3153 grafts. 35 years old, on fin for over 12 years. I’m feeling really good so far, though the itching has definitely kicked up the last two weeks. Redness is still very apparent and I’ve noticed a few little pimples where the hair is starting to push through. I’m using Sebamed daily and honestly never noticed any hairs shedding, so I’m not sure if I'm past that mark or if it's still coming. Extractions and implantations done by Dr. Elif at HLC. Let me know how you think I’m doing so far, happy to answer any questions!

100 days post HT. Looking on track?

Hello guys,

I had a hair transplant (2500 grafts, mainly in the frontal area) about 100 days ago. I wanted to ask if you think everything looks on track or if there are any signs I should be concerned about.

I’ve attached pictures from day 0, day 30, and now (day 100). I know this is a long process, but sometimes it feels like there’s little to no progress, which is a bit worrying. I’d really appreciate some honest opinions on whether things look normal at this stage.

Also, I’ve been seeing some posts about failed transplants, and honestly those posts have been making me a bit anxiou. Are failures actually common, or are they relatively rare? And in cases where they do happen, what are usually the reasons behind them?

Thanks for the feedback

Haartransplantation 3 Monate Post Op Dr. Rezar Azar

Hallo zusammen,

1 day after my FUE hair transplant to cover facelift scars

I had my FUE hair transplant yesterday with Dr. Kim at New Hair Hair Transplant Clinic and wanted to share my experience since Reddit has helped me a lot going through my own journey. Note that I received a small discount for my review but all opinions are my own.

I mainly did this to cover facelift scars where my hair never grew back, which always made me self-conscious, especially when tucking my hair behind my ears. I had done countless lasers, microneedling, and peels but hated how my scars looked in certain lighting. I also lost some hair from the facelift that never grew back and wanted to restore it.

I consulted a few places and one thing that stood out is I never felt pressured to add a ton of extra grafts. I even asked Dr. Kim a few times if he was sure I didn’t need more grafts based on other quotes I received. Other clinics tried to upsell me by 5x the amount of grafts I ended up getting, but Dr. Kim focused on what would actually look natural for me.

The numbing injections were the only uncomfortable part but I also get migraines so I’m already extra sensitive. Otherwise the procedure was easy, everyone made sure I felt comfortable the whole time. I am excited about final results and no longer being worried about hiding my scars in public and can’t wait to see the results in the next few months.

Had a hair transplant a few years ago (hairline), now noticing crown thinning — what should I do?

I had a hair transplant in 2023 (~4,000 grafts) at the hairline, and that part has held up well so far.

But recently I’ve noticed thinning at the crown. It’s become pretty obvious compared to the rest of my hair, and it’s getting harder to cover up with styling. Feels like I need to do something about it now.

I’ve been using minoxidil. I was also on finasteride for about a year after my transplant. I didn’t notice any side effects, but I didn’t continue after I finished the prescription—mostly because I kept reading about potential side effects, and honestly I wasn’t sure how much fin/min were actually helping vs. just the transplant doing its job.

Now I’m wondering what the best next step is:

Go back on finasteride?

Stick with minoxidil and monitor?

Start thinking about a second transplant down the line?

Would appreciate any advice or hearing from people who’ve dealt with similar progression. Thanks.

5 months and 10 days post op Jayy Clinic Lebanon

Had my hair transplant done Oct 31st at Jayy clinic in Lebanon. I’m a bit stressed about the results right now as the top right corner doesn’t seem to be filling in nor does it appear that any “fuzz” is there. My concern is a design flaw. I was happy about the consultation drawing, and decided to go with the lower line, but it was obvious after surgery they went with the high line, which I’m still okay about but the price should have came down but it didn’t. Is 5.5 months too early? You can see the buzz cut photo hairline looks okay. This was about 7 days after the transplant when the scabs came off.

1.)First picture is 5 months 10 days after the operation. You can see the right corner is noticeably

2.) second picture (buzz cut) is a week after operation after scabs came off.

3.) the last picture is the lines that were drawn on consultation day.

1 month post HT DHI

I wanted to share an update on my hair transplant so far in Turkey since I know how helpful these posts can be when you’re doing your research.

I had about 3,500 grafts done using [FUE/DHI], mainly focused on my hairline and mid scalp. Overall, the clinic experience was solid. The team was professional, organized, and communication was good from the start. The procedure itself is long, but everything felt well run and I was comfortable throughout.

The biggest thing I didn’t fully appreciate beforehand was how challenging the first part of recovery would be. The first 10 days were definitely the toughest so far, but also the most important. Sleeping was probably the hardest part having to stay on my back and only getting a few hours at a time made it pretty rough. You also have to be really careful not to touch or disturb the grafts, which makes you constantly aware of your head.

Around day 8, things started to feel a bit easier. I was able to start gently massaging the scabs off, and by day 10 they were pretty much gone. Nothing I experienced was unexpected the clinic did explain everything ahead of time but it still takes some patience when you’re actually going through it.

Now I’m starting to go through the shedding phase. I knew this was coming from doing some research, but it’s still a bit strange seeing the hairs fall out after just having the procedure. It definitely makes you wonder about the process, even though everything I’ve read says it’s completely normal.

I know it’s still very early, so I’m trying not to overthink it too much, but I think it’s normal to have those thoughts at this stage.

On the positive side, everything so far has lined up with what the clinic told me, and they’ve been responsive whenever I’ve had questions during recovery.

I’m happy with how things have gone so far. At this point, it’s just a waiting game, and I’m looking forward to seeing how everything develops over the next few months.

Also feel free to ask any questions you have and I’d be more than happy to share some more details

Did anyone have any reaction / side effects from the tumescense (lidocaine/saline) injection in your scalp?

Did anybody have any side effects other than minor brief pain during hair transplant?

I am curious if the lidocaine or anesthetic gave anyone physical side effects or symptoms during the procedure

Scheduling soon with Artline & curious

Thx

8 days post op, Pure Line Clinic ,thoughts on the hairline?

4272 grafts 612 single- 2159 double-1501 triple, Dr.Mesut. My main goal is a natural look. I know it’s still super early, but I figured any major red flags would show by now. Hairline looks pretty good to me but curious what others think does the placement and density look on track for a natural result?
