Not to be messy but this is just something I'm wondering. I heard if ur a finalist ur gonna win but I wanna see if that's actually true? Did any finalists NOT win?
(no shame I didn't win Gates and I was a finalist lol)
My total cost of attendance for average housing and meal plan at my school is $63,424. The housing I chose was $64,724. I received $57,414 from my school. I was offered a $2,000 work study on top of this. I also received $3,500 in outside scholarships. My question is, is the disbursement the full $7,500 and then it goes towards what they can pay at the school and then student loan debt? I’m just confused. If my school states that I will have to pay at the beginning of each semester and I have to pull out loans to pay for it, will the disbursement cover everything or will I be in debt? I understand that I will owe money because I chose a more expensive housing option but I need to know if he would cover all loans.
I just got an email saying I won Hagan!!! (yaaay) Did anyone else win? I thought they were sending out the winners like next week lol.
Do I fill out the three documents using a word processor for the Award/Agreement and Essential Funds documents, then print out the last two pages to sign and scan? Then, do I attach all three documents together as a single PDF titled in the format: “1500 Smith_John_2026 Award-Agreement”?
So, I'm debating whether I should take the Hagan scholarship or just go to community college and transfer. I've heard that it's a very tedious and strict scholarship, and I don't really have a job yet. I'm planning to do summer classes as an incoming freshman, and a certification program in July, meaning I would still have to find a way to get 240 hours before September. I feel like it's doable, but a lot for someone who's about to transition from high school to college as a pre-nursing major. Do any Hagan recipients have any advice or suggestions?
Hi, super grateful to have received this scholarship. I was wondering if any scholars know/remember when the checks go out to recipients? I need a laptop for orientation (first week of July) and I need to know by May 15th if the check will come in time to buy one, or if I should instead take the laptop grant my university gives me - for a specific laptop provided by them - to be safe. Any info is appreciated !!
My super paranoid self was reviewing my supplemental submission and I realized the my tax returns are signed but the date next to it isn’t signed. My parents file their taxes online so at the time we signed the papers for the submission but forgot to put the date. I’m so sacred this will result in me losing the scholarship.
Hi everyone, I recently got the scholarship and I was wondering if anyone has insight into how they check you've completed your work requirements. On the scholarship particulars it says
"HSF will provide a Form to provide employment information, confirm hours worked, compensation, and hourly pay. If your pay stub shows YTD total compensation and hourly wage, provide your first and last pay stubs — you can determine hours worked by dividing total compensation by the hourly rate. Hours worked during paid internships can be included when determining your hours."
I'm currently working as a hostess at a restaurant and they are paying me in cash. Does this count towards the 240 hour requirements if I don't have a pay stub or can I just get my employer to fill out the confirmation sheet?
Much appreciated if anyone has any insight
Omaha Conference
I understand that this will quite litterally be over a year from now, but can my mom attend the conference with me? She thinks she can't, but I thought I would go ahead and ask. I would prefer for her to be there for moral support. She will be flying out/driving with me to Nebraska anyway because I am not comfortable staying by myself 8 hours away.
Hey congrats to all scholars! .Do you know if we hold off paying tuition and then pay it when we receive disbursement in late fall? It says you can't use funds to pay for previous or future semesters but I assume Fall semester will have to be paid by November.
hello! i have recently been awarded both the Hagan Scholarship and Gates Scholarship. on the Hagan, i read that i cannot use any other last dollar scholarships but i read about people using both gates and hagan, how do i go about using both? i really love each of the different scholarships opportunities and would hate to lose one of them and miss out on some opportunities that the other one doesn’t offer
I am so grateful to have earned this scholarship. But I do have a question about the disbursement. I have earned a bunch of scholarships at my college. In additionally earned an outside full ride, that is not the Hagan scholarship. The other full ride will not pay until after my term has started, but will pay before Hagan, I believe. Will I just not receive the money but will receive the other benefits of Hagan?
This form says to “List your 15 most expensive purchases” and “Attach recipes for your Five (5) most expensive purchases”. So does this mean that I first have to spend $2,000, and then they’ll reimburse me???
How am I supposed to pay for $2,000 worth of college essentials without receiving the $2,000 from Hagan first?
I am thinking of taking a college sponsored gap year to do a year of service in an underdeveloped country. This will be for zero academic credit but paid for by the university. I will, therefore, start my freshman year one year late and become the class of 2031. Can I keep my Hagen scholarship while starting college one year later or will they rescind?
Work Study
Will work study be accounted for in the disbursement? If this is the case, should I reject it and apply to on-campus job regularly? Instructions say we can’t reject aid so I’m confused on this but work study will be given to me directly and not towards tuition
class of 2030 gc!
hey recipients, CONGRATS! 🥳i’d love to make a group chat so we’re all connected throughout this process and get to know each other! drop your instagrams so i can add you!
(Another) work study/disbursement question
My son’s remaining COA is $23,000. I’m thinking he should still take the work study ($3,200/year) since even with that he should still get the full $15,000 from Hagan. Is this correct or am I missing something? I’ve seen a lot of posts about not doing work study so I’m wanting to make sure we understand this correctly before accepting work study.
