Hi everyone! Just wanted to share an update on my previous post.

I’ll finally be going to Harvard this fall. Initially, I received around $3X,000 USD in financial aid, but shortly after, I was informed that I was nominated for a restricted scholarship. I’ve now been granted full funding, which I’m incredibly grateful for.

That said, living expenses will still be on me, but I’m prepared to cover them through part-time work and personal savings I’ve built over the years. I’m also still waiting to hear back from a private scholarship, which could help further.

Regardless, I made sure to prepare my finances in advance, so I’m ready to move forward.

Thank you so much to everyone who congratulated me and especially to those who shared advice and encouragement, it truly helped during the uncertainty.

Happy to answer any questions or help others going through the same process!

is it possible for an average student to study abroad through scholarships programs?

Hi!

Thank you po!

Help in picking which path to take as an International Student

Hello, it’s my first time here on Reddit and I’m still getting a hang of it but I’m currently a Senior Highschool student who’s interested in studying abroad in Netherlands for a course related to International Business and/or Logistics. However, after researching for days up to months, I’ve realized that there aren’t much information I could get about people from my country going through the application process for studying in a university. In my country, there is this thing you call “strands,” which are specialized pathways that align with your interests or the career/course you plan to take once you graduate senior highschool. I chose the Humanities and Social Sciences strand which in turn has less Mathematic/Business related subjects so this wouldn’t benefit me as much since I don’t plan on becoming a lawyer anymore.

Other than that, I am aware that there are two types of universities (pls correct me if I’m wrong): WO and HBO, with HBO being applied sciences. However, the diploma I’d graduate with from my school is only equivalent to a direct pathway to an HBO university, so I’ve been given these two options (I’m not quite sure if there are more) from what I’ve searched up:

  1. The HBO-P Route - I’ll be completing the first year of an HBO Bachelor’s program and obtain my propedeuse (P-certificate). Once I get my P-certificate with a high GPA (hopefully), I’ll apply for transfer to a WO university to start their Year 1. And since I’m a HUMSS student, I will have to take the OMPT-A exam or a similar deficiency test (pls correct me if I’m wrong..) and use the year to study/prepare for the exam as well
  2. International Foundation Year - I’ll be taking a Foundation Year in the related course like Business and Management at EUR, and I believe this wouldn’t benefit also tailor my math and academic skills to EUR requirements. However, I am aware that this’ll be a higher cost and google told me it does not grant a degree certificate like the HBO route if I do decide to stay.

Could I ask anyone to give me tips on this or help me decide which path to take which would benefit me especially in the future? I’m really eager to study abroad.

P.S. I apologize if this post is too long

A current DOST Graduate Scholar but planning to pursue PHD abroad

Hi. I was wondering if ever anyone here had experienced or had known someone who terminated their DOST graduate scholarship to pursue a fully-funded graduate studies abroad? I am currently a 1st year PhD student in the Philippines. After months of waiting, I got accepted for a fully-funded scholarship in the UK. It's been a dream to pursue molecular studies abroad, with great machineries and experties. I am willing to pay the total refund plus the 12% interest. However, I am worried that the DOST might not approved me terminating the scholarship and leaving the country. I was also a DOST graduate scholar during my MS. I don't know what to do now, but I really look forward to pursue my doctoral studies abroad. Please share your thoughts and experiences on the proper processes. Thanks!

The above link is their website with the color red logo.

I strongly advise prospective students to verify LSB’s credentials before enrolling. My own due diligence revealed the following:

False Affiliations: While LSB claims an MBA partnership with the University of Sunderland, I contacted the University directly, and they denied any affiliation with LSB.

Unverified Partnerships: Four other organizations listed as "affiliates" on the LSB website also confirmed they have no partnership with this school.

Communication Breakdown: Since raising these concerns, LSB has dropped my calls and ignored three formal refund requests.

Please verify all claims with the awarding bodies directly before making any payments.

I have paid them 2,500 pounds as an initial payment and no word from them at all.

This is my hard earned money and good thing I didn’t pay the rest.

Hello, I would just like to update, expand and share more information to Filipinos about Czech, seeing Czech Republic as a potential destination for studying their bahcelor's, master's or PhD. Also, this brief updated guide can help fellow OFWs and migrants who are here already. If you would like to see my initial guide, it is here in this post. I did not know that it helped a number of Filipinos and chose Czech Republic as their migration destination. I received a lot of questions and queries privately in the past couple of months, as well as meeting them personally in Czech Republic. https://www.reddit.com/r/phmigrate/comments/194vdq9/guide_to_migrating_to_czech_republic_central/

My brief background: I have been living in Czech Republic, especially in Brno, for 7 1/2 years already. I am a permanent residence holder. I came here as a master's student. Once I got my diploma, I found a job and became an OFW until such time I got my permanent residence.

For this brief update (2025), I divide the sections into 3 (Studies, Work, Cost of Living), advice and figures.

Studying in Czech Republic

a. If you asked majority of the international students here, even from developing countries, the first thing they will say is the low cost of living. Of course, it will depend on each person's circumstance. Nonetheless, I can still say na may balance yung quality of life and education to costs.

b. It is also ranked as one of the most secure countries in the world. Crimes here involved mostly around pick-pockets and theft. Murder and gun related violence is very rare in this country.

c. There are a lot of English programs from Bachelor's to PhD. You do not need to learn or know Czech to study here. Also, 100% compatible yung educational system sa Pilipinas.

d. Liberating educational system and student life. Kung sa Pilipinas, mauubos oras mo dahil sa traffic, family obligations and the like, dito, mamomroblema ka dahil sobrang dami mong oras. To give you an example, ang tawag sa sembreak nila dito is "study period", hindi actually nag-aaral mga estudyante pag sembreak nila kung hindi, nagbabakasyon sa ibang bansa. Isa pang halimbawa pag final exams, 2-3 months yung exam period at ikaw pipili kung kailan mo gusto itake depending sa anong i-set ng professor mo. Yung pacing ng "European" style of education is "take your time and learn effectively". Mag-aral ka in your own pace. Hindi naman kailangan mag madali at pressure.

  1. Tuition fees sa mga unibersidad

a. Para sa akin, ang top 3 universities dito sa Czech Republic ay Charles University in Prague, Masaryk University in Brno, and Palacky University in Olomouc. Nonethless, the other universities are great also like kung niche/specialty programs or fields yung program na pipiliin mo like sciences, technology and so forth. Itong tatlo lang in my opinion well-rounded and mas diverse choice yung inooffer nila.

a1. For Charles University, according to their website https://cuni.cz/UKEN-372.html, the median tuition per year is 6000 EUR or 377,508 php.

a2. For Masaryk University, please see the picture below. It depends on the faculty and the degree program. The lowest is in Faculty of Social Studies, 3000 EUR or 188,754 per year.

https://www.muni.cz/en/admissions/bachelors-and-masters-studies/tuition-fees-and-financial-aid

a3. For Palacky University Olomouc, it depends again on the degree program and the faculty. For example, in Faculty of Education, 2000 EUR or 125,836 php per year

https://www.pdf.upol.cz/en/admission/general-information/

For Faculty of Science:

https://www.prf.upol.cz/en/prospective-students/#c82795

You can find the universities, degree programs and tuition fees here in this link.
https://portal.studyin.cz/en/?fspToken=lRTQrWD4miag9sJv1gs6s

  1. Application

a. To be short and brief, it depends on the university. Some may need IELTS, may pa entrance exam, others, wala like motivational letterlang at transcript of records lang kailangan. Basically, nandito sa website yung core information https://www.studyin.cz/plan-your-studies/how-to-apply/

  1. Scholarship information

Check here for more information, https://www.studyin.cz/plan-your-studies/scholarships/

  1. Can I stay and work after I finish my degree program?

Yes, 100% through job-seeking visa or directly already from an employee card. Ang mangyayari is once pagkagraduate mo and you still have months left before your student visa expires, you can apply for job-seeking visa which gives you 9 months to look for a job. Kung may trabaho ka na during studies (kasi pwedeng mag trabaho full-time habang nag-aaral ka), you can directly convert it to employee card or "work residence permit"

For all studying related inquiries, nandito lahat sa https://www.studyin.cz/

Working in Czech Republic

  1. Karaniwang sahod

Mas mataas sahod ng IT professionals, managers at high position levels. Ganito ang salary breakdown:

https://www.platy.cz/en/calculator/results

  1. Perks and benefits

Standard is 25 days of paid vacation, mahabang maternity leave set by law at iba pa.

Cost of Living in Czech Republic

  1. Gastusin araw-araw at renta

Let's say that you are in a shared accomodation with other two or three people meaning you have your own rooms but the kitchen, living area and bathroom are shared, in Prague, the prices will range from 10,000 - 15,000 CZK or 25000 - 37950 PHP a month, usually including all the utilities such as gas, electricity and internet. Sa ibang siyudad, makakahanap ka from 6,000 - 9000 CZK or 15180.25 - 22770.37 PHP a month

https://www.bezrealitky.com/

https://www.sreality.cz/

Example prices of grocery/items that people usually consume:

  1. Milk - 27 czk o 68.31 php
  2. Capuccino - 65-90 czk o 164.45 - 215.05 php
  3. Loaf of Bread - 29 - 32 czk o 73.37 - 80.96 php
  4. Rice 1kl - 38 czk o 96.14 php

Ito yung websites ng supermarkets. Pwede niyo tingnan yung mga presyo:

Renta talaga ang biggest bulk of spending.

For all visa and migration related questions:

Worth it ba mag loan for EMJM?

I received 100% tuition fee waiver, plus travel and health insurance for 2 years. Is it worth it to take a loan to cover living expenses in cases external funding would not be available even after trying? Please advise me! I really wanted to go to this program but I am not sure if the financial burden would be worth it. Countries are France, Finland, and Slovenia.

Main concern is visa approval for France. On top of the loan, think I can pool support from various member of the fam but would that be enough to have a long term visa approved in France?

Any advice for being qualified for a scholarship abroad?

I am currently a 3rd year high school student studying here in the Philippines and am hoping to study abroad on a scholarship in the future. For those that are already studying there what advice can you give me so that I can have a better chance of qualifying for a scholarship and even hopefully be accepted into an Ivy-League?

Feeling stuck, want to pursue Masters abroad but lost on where to start

Grabe I really want to take my Masters abroad pero parang lahat di nag-aalign 😭

Anyone here naka-experience nito? Pano niyo nafigure out path/research niyo?

PhD Advise

Hi everyone! I’m looking for some insights, especially from those who are currently first-year PhD students. I’m 28 and nearly finished with my Master’s. During my defense, I was asked about my future plans. I mentioned that a PhD isn’t a priority right now, as I want to focus on establishing career stability within the academia where I’m currently employed.

I have a few questions:

  1. Should I start the PhD application process now?

  2. Is there a disadvantage to pursuing a PhD later in life, particularly regarding age?

  3. What is the recommended track for someone teaching Biology with a focus on Ecology?

  4. How will I know if I am ready for the rigor of the PhD education?

Thank you and may the forces of the universe be always in your favor 💯💯

School payment option NZ

School payment option

Hi, I just really need advice.

Nag-aallow ba yung mga schools diyan ng personal payment from relatives or ibang tao? May nakagawa na ba nito before?

I’ve been thinking seriously about pursuing a Master of Arts abroad as a Filipino student, but I feel overwhelmed about where to start, what are the most reliable websites or platforms I can use to search for accredited programs, scholarships, and application requirements specifically for Filipinos? For instance, are platforms like MastersPortal or agencies like PACE PH helpful, and how do they guide applicants through the process? I’m also curious about scholarship opportunities such as Fulbright Foreign Student Program, CHED Foreign Scholarship and Training Program, or Erasmus+ how competitive are they, and what steps should I take first to become eligible? Should I prioritize preparing for exams like IELTS, building my documents, or gaining work experience, and realistically, how early should I start planning if I want to study abroad within the next few years?

It has been killing me.

For those who applied, let’s keep each other sane for the next few weeks. I need someone to talk to. Haha I have exceeded the word-count by 150 words and I have submitted 30 minutes before the deadline. Haha epic talaga.

Anyway, that’s done. I would like to hear everyone who applied to this scholarship.

What are your prayers?
What are you doing for Plan B?
What course and university did you apply to?
How many times have you applied for this?

Ako, im looking for BDO personal loan. Haha!

Maybe it's just a blurry dream I have to study internationally, but actually looking at it now, it feels impossible.

First off, the reality is that many colleges/universities don't offer full-ride scholarships, coming from a middle-class family I probably wouldn't be able to transfer even if I ended up being accepted with a fully funded tuition (I.e living expenses)

Second, there's too much preparation needed (SATs, IELTs, etc.) It isn't about taking the tests, but also the confusion that comes with a lot of foreign terminologies (AP, GPA, etc.) since my school doesn't have these, I feel like that would set me back

Third, the best possible outcome is to be accepted by an Ivy league for incoming undergraduates due to their scholarship, but even that is too much of a reach😭

Any suggestions? The process of preparing for college is hectic and I'll have to balance applications w the colleges here within the country
