Just completed the project and the customer didn’t like the color

So this customer picked out the color. We painted the right side of the home first since it was the hardest and power line was connected to it. After we two coated the full home at the end the customer didn’t like the color. And now they want to change it again at no cost. They signed off on colors and on each side as we completed the project.

What would you do in this situation give them two free coats, change them for one extra and give them one for free, or two free coats ?

I want to give quality service but I’m in a predicament now since the project is completely done. 0 complaints just they don’t like the color!

Our home is lovely, but how can I boost curb appeal and make it feel more.... SOMETHING.

Our curb appeal is decent! Good even! But not my style. The beige siding really bums me out. Likewise for the greige patio and landlord special white columns. Our little bungalow has so much character and stunning growth, I just want to do it justice and make it really stand out. Right now I feel like there are too many??? things going on? Really just brain dumping here and looking for some feedback/sanity checks.

I'd love to do some low budget alterations to see if I can make it feel a little more modern.

- paint the door and door trim black or charcoal?
- repaint the ceiling of the porch? What color?
- paint railing?
- paint patio and stairs?
- new landscaping on the sides of the stairs? what kind? Something that just kisses the bottom of the railing probably. Alternating heights. The pictures here are directly after a landscaper came and sliced off the bamboo framing the steps and the branches from the tree on the left.
- THE COLUMNS?
- PAINT GUTTERS?

In a perfect world (given an unlimited budget [imaginary]) I would:

- Paint the vinyl siding a darker color
- have natural wood or matching dark window panes
- Replace front door with natural wood tone door OR! paint this current door a fun bright color
- Microcement/crazy pave the patio and stairs and replace the walkway/side pathway pavers to all be the same.
- place unique post cap lights on railing

Ok that's all. I'm not crazy.

Color suggestions !

We are getting our roof replaced. We aren’t 100% sure on color but leaning towards black. We thought this would be a good time to update front door and shutters. First pic is currently and second pic is inspo from ChatGPT for black door and shutters. I do like it but want maybe some a little more charming. Any ideas for colors?? We bought this house ~6 months ago and love it but want it to be more charming and cozy. The siding can look yellowish sometimes and is so odd to pinpoint exactly what color it is. Thanks!

I need some inspiration for exterior paint and trim colors please. I thought I would like the green, but it just feels blah. This is a rental I’ve owned for several years, but plan on listing it soon, and want to maximize curb appeal. Thanks for any suggestions you may have!

Looking for mock-up ideas to show my parents what’s possible for our house!

Hi guys! I’m on my burner for obvious reasons. My parents are awful with style and I know our house could look so much nicer. They just need to see what’s possible and I have no clue how you guys mock these things up/I don’t know exterior design haha

Please no dark colors for the house (shutters are okay!) and they love blue! It’s not as much about the colors, as it is with the design/styling we could do.

Thank you so much!!

Looking for advice on creating shade and a more lush feel in my desolate zone 9b backyard.

The green lines are where the pool plumbing is so I can’t plant much in the ground there.

I’m open to any and all suggestions.

Exterior Guidance - Ranch

Hi Everyone, desperate for opinions/guidance as our house’s exterior has a lot of things going on and we are struggling to marry choices together. Just looking for feedback/ideas on how to freshen our 50’s home! Let me start with what we *have* decided on.

• We’ve decided to freshen up the current tan plank siding with “White Duck” by Sherwin Williams.

• We are getting a new front door in stained wood (last image).

• We are getting a new garage door and like the color “Smudge” by Sherwin Williams as a darker “pop” of color (second to last pic).

• There’s a side door to the garage we will also be painting “Smudge”.

• Matte black door hardware (Schlage).

• Copper/antique brass light fixtures (would love to replace mailbox with a copper one too!)

Where we are struggling…

  1. We don’t think we want to paint the brick (“White Duck”) though we go back and forth. The orange tones of it just really throw us off.

2)The trim that goes around the windows and upper periphery of the house has stumped us. We feel like it needs to be a neutral with enough contrast to “White Duck” but also needs to not compete with “Smudge”.

  1. And then what about the shutters on the front window? Is “Smudge” there too matchy-matchy? Do we remove the shutters entirely? I would replace with wood ones to compliment the front door, but painting the current ones would be more cost effective.

  2. We’d like to get rid of the weird wood diamond piece the house numbers are on and get new number plates in copper/antique brass. But is it going to be odd the numbers floating on one large piece of wood without the diamond?

  3. Also (back to the trim convo) we are concerned that the trim piece that borders the garage door may look really odd being a different color from “Smudge”, but there’s no great way for our trim color to just not carry around.

Thank you so much for any and all thoughts on these conundrums! We appreciate it🫶🏽

Wanting ideas on how to add curb appeal.

Any suggestions welcome! We are wanting to visually break up the vertical sections of brick. Doing something to the brick in the vertical column around the door? Accenting the trim around the windows and vertical lines? Changing the gutter colorsPainting or staining the brick is an option but would love other ideas!!

Help redesign our craftsman 😊

We moved to this place for the location/land, but the house needs some updating - there are so many things that need changed, I’m overwhelmed! I am truthfully not a huge fan of the brick/siding combo and definitely want the yellow gone. I love brick, however, parts of this home have been added on to and the owner previously poorly repairs a couple of areas, so the brick doesn’t totally match in some areas (see the porch). Because of this, I have been considering opaque lime washing the brick and painting the siding a shade of white/cream to make everything look more cohesive. I would like to stay away from paint, as I do not want a ton of upkeep. However, I do love the moodier craftsman style colors- I just am not sure how to do this and make the existing brick look better. Also, we are planning to add on an attached garage with siding in the future, so I need to take matching that to the home into account, as well. We are getting a new roof this spring and am open to different ideas for that (the chimneys and antenna will be going for this too). I’m also excited for different landscaping- the bridal wreath is beautiful for a week, but then looks like a mess. Thank you for any input/help!

Thoughts on exterior siding and trim color?

I like the idea of warmer natural stacked stone at primary masonry gables and front porch. But can’t decide if I like the more contemporary contrast of the darker charcoal vertical siding, or a more neutral brown/taupe to blend in. Perhaps mixing in some off-white painted brick to lighten things up? (Brick water table will continue around the sides and rear) Any feedback welcome.

Front Stoop and Door Color Update Suggestions

Help us update the front of our house. The inset area is painted grey (on the vinyl siding) and in pretty rough shape. We are certainly open to painting that section of siding again to freshen it, along with the doors, which are faded gross. We plan to upgrade the knobs / hardware on the doors to something in brushed nickel. What color(s) would enhance this space? Thanks!

Courtyard Wall Redesign

So pic 1 is before. We were in the process of taking half the wall height down and were going to add some stone or coquina stucco to the bottoms of the concrete walls; top with travertine and post lights on the columns where the lights currently are in pic 1. The renderings show the chippendale railings and gate we are considering. The green in the rendering is NOT the color we are repainting. It will be a light sagey green gray. Wife is having second thoughts and it worried about it being too busy. She hated the “prison walls” so she wanted it lower. It’s not going back up but we might consider keeping part of the walls that aren’t cut in half yet. Ideas?

What if we replaced the bottom 4 rows of shingles with board and batten?

What if we replaced the bottom 4 rows of shingles with board and batten?

this lake cabin has 70+ year old cedar shingles. the bottom rows are rotted. considering demoing those and replacing with metal board and batten for durability and low maintenance.

the bottom floor is painted cinder block.

how will this look? i don't want to redo the shingles - i want an economical replacement for the rotted rows.

Selecting a new foundation paint color

We bought our house 4yrs ago, the foundation had already been painted white and it is starting to look shabby. We just replaced the basement door and cannot decide what color to paint the foundation - we don’t want to go too matchy matchy, but we want the look by the pool area to be cohesive. What do you guys think?

What’s the best way to visualize exterior design changes before committing to a renovation?

I’m currently thinking about improving the exterior of my house and trying to figure out the best way to plan everything before making any permanent changes. The main areas I’m considering are the front yard layout, pathway placement, and possibly adding some structured planting areas to make the entrance feel more intentional.

One thing I’ve struggled with is actually visualizing how the different elements will look together—plants, hardscape, lighting, and the overall balance with the house facade.

I’ve tried sketching ideas and looking through inspiration photos, but recently I also experimented with an AI concept tool called AI Yard Design Studio that generates landscaping concepts from a photo of the yard. It produced a few interesting layouts showing plant groupings, walkways, and focal points around the exterior.

I’m not treating it as a final design obviously, but it did help me think about layout possibilities I hadn’t considered before.

For those here who work on exterior design or have redesigned their own property:

How do you usually plan exterior layouts before starting the work?

Do you sketch, use design software, or work directly with a landscaper/designer?

Are there specific methods or tools that help you visualize exterior changes better?

I’d really like to approach this the right way before I start moving soil and planting anything.

Improving the exterior of our Tudor revival

Improving the exterior of our Tudor revival

We’re purchasing our first home, and are looking for guidance on improving the exterior. We definitely don’t want to strip any of the Tudor charm. Is there any way to improve the look of the garage addition, or should we just focus on landscaping? Open to any suggestions!

Can I get some help & ideas for creating a better curb appeal. I really dislike that my house vibes like it’s a double wide trailer instead of a traditionally built house.

Also my yard is so sloped it’s virtually useless. And it’s sand instead of dirt.
