Exterior Guidance - Ranch
Hi Everyone, desperate for opinions/guidance as our house’s exterior has a lot of things going on and we are struggling to marry choices together. Just looking for feedback/ideas on how to freshen our 50’s home! Let me start with what we *have* decided on.
• We’ve decided to freshen up the current tan plank siding with “White Duck” by Sherwin Williams.
• We are getting a new front door in stained wood (last image).
• We are getting a new garage door and like the color “Smudge” by Sherwin Williams as a darker “pop” of color (second to last pic).
• There’s a side door to the garage we will also be painting “Smudge”.
• Matte black door hardware (Schlage).
• Copper/antique brass light fixtures (would love to replace mailbox with a copper one too!)
Where we are struggling…
- We don’t think we want to paint the brick (“White Duck”) though we go back and forth. The orange tones of it just really throw us off.
2)The trim that goes around the windows and upper periphery of the house has stumped us. We feel like it needs to be a neutral with enough contrast to “White Duck” but also needs to not compete with “Smudge”.
And then what about the shutters on the front window? Is “Smudge” there too matchy-matchy? Do we remove the shutters entirely? I would replace with wood ones to compliment the front door, but painting the current ones would be more cost effective.
We’d like to get rid of the weird wood diamond piece the house numbers are on and get new number plates in copper/antique brass. But is it going to be odd the numbers floating on one large piece of wood without the diamond?
Also (back to the trim convo) we are concerned that the trim piece that borders the garage door may look really odd being a different color from “Smudge”, but there’s no great way for our trim color to just not carry around.
Thank you so much for any and all thoughts on these conundrums! We appreciate it🫶🏽
