Penny items.

As far as I was aware employees arent allowed to purchase penny items?... my store just promoted a new assistant who will go around our store and collect penny items, put them in a cart and put them in the receiving room until she comes in and buys ALL of it to then sell on facebook. Ive heard about her going into other local stores and doing the same thing...

This company is garbage

I got my fourth talking to about how many line voids I've been getting. I got shown a video of a little girl buying a pillow from me, and she could barely reach the register and when she was done paying, the pillow double scanned when she grabbed it. My mf DM has the nerve to say I should have been making her hold the pillow the entire time so I don't get a void. Somehow it costs the company $1000 everytime they do an EBR to go over this with me? How does that make any sense, it sounds like fraud on their end. They 100% get tax breaks are some shi from this. This company should be condemned. If they didn't want voids, maybe the counter space should be more than a foot wide!?

So I had a post a month ago where I called in sick 2 hours before my shift time (which is protocol), and was met with a very surprising situation. Well, I called in sick today, and once again, my manager can’t accept it. Pictures 1 and 2 are from the first time, and Picture 3 is today. I said no to going to urgent care to confirm I’m not contagious because I’m so exhausted from this sickness, and I just want to rest in bed. He has more than enough people working today, so I don’t understand why it matters that much. Also, another rant, he let this new hire no call no show twice, and then found out he won’t be back until a week later because of a family emergency and didn’t even bat an eye. But when I call in sick per protocol, it’s such an issue. Mind you the new hire is a key holder. I’m just an associate. I’m so over this.

Damn this is bad.. holy hell

I was recently hired like 2 months ago, asked to be a key so thats what I am. I was stocking a Arizona tea thing from our truck and saw a bunch of dusty snapple bottles. I got curious and checked the date. 2024... Feb 2024... I checked every date and pulled the snapples on the shelf. Not a single one went bad this year, all 2025, 2024. I check the fridge for everything from that vendor. Nearly everything is out of date by 6+ months.

Second picture: I saw a bit of crackers that were out of date. I decided to start checking dates on stuff and thats from basically one aisle. Ive found a few 2025 stuff, one even from Feb 2025 in the front of everything. This is actually crazy.

Do you think I’m fired? Or just a write up?

Hey, I had a mess up today. Totally my fault. I had a lady buy 100 dollars in gift cards, handed me $120. I fat fingered 200 by accident. And gave her back 90 something because I didn’t catch my mistake until counted my till. And i was $78 short. My ASM was working and had to authorize it, she called my SM to let him know what happened. But no word on what’s gonna happen next. I asked my ASM and she said I possibly could get a final write up (even though technically it’s my first, but the amount was so big it would be a final) yet she doubted I’d get fired.

Watching The DG Dumpster Fire Is A Lot Less Stressful When You’re A Spectator Rather Than A Participant

I finally quit last week and honestly the whole thing feels less like a resignation and more like the final sene of a very low budget workplace documentary.

This was always my secondary job. My actual career is stable, professional and staffed by adults who communicate directly instead of trying weird intimidation tactics that immediately fall apart when the person you’re attempting to intimidate actually understands company policy better than you do.

And I mean that literally. At one point I realized I knew the company SOPs better than the actual store manager, who I’m still not convinced knows what “SOP” even stands for.

But I genuinely liked this job once. I liked most of the customers, liked the work itself and for a long time I genuinely wanted the store manager to succeed. A lot of us did. Which is unfortunate because apparently the reward for being competent is eventually becoming a threat and then slowly getting fucked with until moving on becomes the better option.

Over the last year I watched multiple smart, capable employees slowly get run off while the people who stayed were the ones who never questioned anything, never made decisions independently and required constant direction. One employee has been there since September and still refuses to do freight because he “doesn’t know where anything goes.” Which is honestly impressive at this point.

Then I committed the unforgivable sin of asking for Saturdays off while still being fully available for my full-time hours the other six days of the week.

There was a whole back and forth with the DM before he finally said to just give me Saturdays since two other employees had “completely open availability” anyway.

This apparently launched us directly into the Fall of Rome portion of the storyline.

Suddenly my hours were gutted, I’m repeatedly hearing how I could be “written up,” blank write up forms are mysteriously being left out in the office like I’m supposed to tremble before the mighty Lexmark printer and I’m repeatedly being told about other employees’ disciplinary issues like management somehow confused me with the HR department.

Meanwhile communication became a bizarre game of “the DM said this but the SM said the opposite” and I got scheduled for Fresh on Thursday with the aforementioned freight-refusing employee.

Meaning I was once again expected to unload and put away an entire Fresh truck basically alone while management bragged about getting an extra 20 labor hours for the week.

That was the moment I finally realized I was no longer witnessing dysfunction. I was actively participating in it.

So Thursday, right before my Fresh shift, I texted the DM explaining that I would not be coming in and exactly why. Then I walked in, dropped off my key and left. Effective immediately.

And…this is where everything caught fire.

The Fresh truck sat sealed until nearly noon Friday because apparently neither the SM nor her fully available FT employee were available to unload it either.

Then despite having Friday and Saturday to find coverage for my now-open Sunday shift, the employees with “completely open availability” suddenly became unavailable. Even the freight-refusing part timer who supposedly wanted all the hours didn’t show up for his already scheduled Saturday shift.

I stopped in Saturday for a couple things and got treated to the SM loudly repeating “EVERYONE IS JUST OUT HAVING A FUN TIME” over and over while the store itself appeared to be running entirely on panic, unresolved freight and the consequences of repeatedly keeping the wrong people.

You know. The kind of vibes where burger buns are living their best life in the chemical aisle, Legos have fully settled into the laundry soap section, random carts of merchandise assigned to the same person have been sitting untouched for a week or two and unopened boxes are considered “put away” because they were placed in roughly the correct aisle by the SM and her trusty, open-availability FT employee without ever actually being opened.

Which, to be fair, became a lot more visible after I stopped quietly cleaning up everyone else’s abandoned projects and random messes a few months ago after repeatedly hearing that I “never did anything” while spending most of my shifts fixing things other people left unfinished.

Honestly my only regret in all of this is not looking directly at the Fresh driver while dropping off my key and yelling:

“BREAK THE SEAL!”

And the funniest part? At this point the only employees left there who consistently function at full capacity are high school kids who legally can’t even sell cigarettes or beer yet.

Why does DG care about pointless metrics?

I feel like I'm doing a bad job after seeing my metrics. I just became a key like 2 months ago and I have the worst metrics but honestly it's not my fault. My average basket amount is $11 compared to others being $15+. My LV rate is 2.5% but literally everything has a reason. The way I like to run is by putting my drawer on the smaller register, this register doesn't have a turn table and it doesn't even have a scanner. I put the associates on the bigger drawer with the scanner and turn table thing for the bags.

75% of our food aisles are up front where you can directly see the register, same with medicine. I work on stock in the back of the store (pet, cleaning, etc.) and adjust the numbers. I help out on registers when there is a line forming, all the associate gotta do is press the ringer we have and I'll be up there for anything. 90% of the time, people will have literally 1 item and come to me since I have the smaller register. VV$1 stuff, stuff like that. I will have the occasional times where people will come with a bunch of stuff to me and start literally putting items on the scanner. So it ends up scanning and by me even picking it up, I gotta void it since it scanned again. That doesn't even mention me having to void things for the associate because someone didn't want to pay 17 cents because a digital coupon didn't work. (I'm not even joking, they got mad af and told me to cancel everything but one thing). Like am I under performing or something? Should I be running register more to fix these numbers, I wasn't told anything by my SM yet but I know this DM can be very picky on stuff like this. What do I do?!

Loss prevention

Loss prevention came today

Tried to say I price modified alot to a 01. Gave me totals I go dude I don't remember any of those transactions.

We get alot of customers in and out.

I'm lucky enough to know when I'm coming or going half the time because I work so much.

They put me on suspicion for one day.

There like we will let you know by tomorrow.

Well he wouldn't let me see the proof or let me take pictures of the proof

They wanted me to admit to something I don't even remember doing.

Kept trying to say I was using "I don't remember" as a excuse

I do dude no I'm not.

I have mental issues and memory problems

Show me the video

He wouldn't do that even

He goes I thought we could handle this like adults. I guess not

I go we are

I'm just telling you the truth

So probably still gonna fire me

Then tried to say I would probably have to pay back the money .

I go um no because you got no proof to show me

So if I get to go back more then likely won't

Already looking for another job

In case you want AC in the backroom

This draft focuses on the public health risk of selling compromised medical devices and pharmaceuticals. You can submit this through the FDA’s MedWatch portal or their Safety Reporting Portal.

Draft Regulatory Tip for the FDA

Subject: Systemic Storage Failures and Lack of Temperature Monitoring for Medical Devices and OTC Pharmaceuticals

Entity Name: Dollar General (Store #[Insert Store Number if known] / [City, State])
Incident Location: Backroom Inventory Storage Area

Description of Issue:
I am reporting a systemic failure to maintain and monitor safe storage temperatures for regulated medical devices (specifically condoms) and Over-the-Counter (OTC) pharmaceuticals at Dollar General.

Key Facts:

  • Temperature Excursions: Regulated products are routinely stored in the facility's backroom, where ambient air temperatures frequently exceed safe storage limits (above 77°F for CRT products and above 100°F for medical devices).
  • Lack of Monitoring: Management has failed to implement any ambient air temperature logging or monitoring systems in the backroom. There are no records to document the duration or severity of these temperature excursions.
  • Product Impact: Prolonged exposure to high heat and humidity has resulted in visible product degradation, including [mention any details like melted gummies, leaking lubricants, or medicine capsules sticking together].
  • Under-staffing & Hazards: Due to severe under-staffing, inventory (including medicines and condoms) remains in these unmonitored backroom conditions for extended periods, often weeks, before being moved to the sales floor.
  • Software Failure: Internal inventory adjustment systems are currently failing to accurately track on-hand quantities, further delaying the identification and removal of expired or heat-damaged products.

Safety Concern:
The sale of these compromised products poses a significant risk to consumer health, as heat-damaged condoms are prone to breakage and degraded pharmaceuticals may lose potency or produce toxic byproducts.

Next Steps for You

  1. Gather Evidence: If you can safely do so, take a photo of a thermometer in the backroom showing a high temperature or a photo of the blocked/cluttered inventory.
  2. Submit to the FDA: Go to the FDA MedWatch Online Form and copy/paste the draft above into the "Describe Event or Problem" section.
  3. Contact your State Board: Search for your [State] Board of Pharmacy and find their "File a Complaint" link to report the medicine storage issues.

Would you like me to adjust this draft to focus more on the inventory software failure for a report to the SEC or IRS instead?

GM is disregarding my children

So, i’ve been working at this store for about a month, and everything is fucked to say the least. we have 7 total employees, all shifts, because our GM in a narcissist to a fault. when i did my interview, i explained that my children had court ordered appointments. ones that i will face fines or worse if i don’t take them to. my eldest son has mental development delays. so he has 6 hours of therapy on mondays. i told her all of this. and yet im being purposefully scheduled on days i told her id be busy. when it comes to scheduling, im a shift lead, who cant close or open the store. doesn’t have a key, and cant log in to legion. these issues were brought to the GM’s attention, before totally ignored. i worked in the store completely alone from 8am to 10:30pm. close to open. ALONE. upon calling the GM 5 times with NO RESPONSE at close time. i manually counted the drawer, closed to the best of my ability, and left a note. i left to go to my sons therapy appointments today, as i do EVERY MONDAY FOR THE PAST YEAR. there was a 6 car pileup that im honestly, still waiting to be cleared. I once again explained to the GM that i want in town and would probably be late, more so because of the accident. and she sent me a message saying if i can’t make it in im fired. she’s demanding that i come in because i’ve been late multiple times, after she’s changed my schedule with ZERO notice, i’ve ran the store and closed it wrong, after never being shown or taught how. i’m debating between silent compliance and telling her off, followed by quitting. it’s been like this since day one, she’s uses the employees, gets pissy when they don’t know what to do when she hasn’t taught them, and takes it out on the same employees.

Can this get me fired

Talked about a customer to another customer
Person A asked me about things i answered truthfully but she didnt exactly respond much so i was confused on if she believed me. Asked Person B if they could pick up on her language..if she believed what i was telling her. And unfortunately person A’s daughter was in the line and didnt find it funny at all and told me how unprofessional it is to talk about other customers to other customers so i expect to get a complaint calling later. Is the most i can get a write up? Or will i be fired

Isn't there some policy on this?

Damn, I should have taken a picture but forgot. Some customer came up to me randomly while I was on the floor and asked about a box of trash bags. Now it wasn't a "do you have these in stock or anything" it was asking for a discount. The reason for the discount.... The box was slightly ripped. Like barely ripped. She said how she would take it for 25% off because she didn't know if she was getting every trash bag... She also said how it's the "last one" which... I just literally recovered the trash bags section and upped counts and I knew that unless someone came in and bought 5 of the ones she wanted and ripped one slightly open in the last hour, then her story is bs. I said that I think the only way we will be able to give a discount is if the actual product is damaged. She said well, I worked at Amazon and if you got them in the mail, you would contact us for a refund/discount......

Your telling me, because the box that your going to open.. just because it's slightly ripped and might be missing a single trash bag, you want 1/4 off the original price?

Regulars.

We have a regular that comes in almost everyday. Well, I see him whenever I'm there at least. A nice overall guy but always says the same stupid remark "I'm sure y'all are rich" or "y'all must get paid well" & "have you made enough for vacation?" I take it as an insult every time.

I'd love to run a full cart into his ankles. It really freaking bugs me when he says that because I have to think about how this is the only company that accepted my application despite having a degree and solid resume. I feel worthless.

A DG truck driver parked in our lot. Said he was out of drive hours but could leave in the morning. This guy has been sitting in our parking lot for over 24 hours now. Is this allowed? Do I have to tell him to leave? My manager just quit and my DM is not responding.

EDIT: IT IS LITERALLY JUST A FUCKING QUESTION JESUS CHRIST. I HAVE NOT BOTHERED THE MAN OR ASKED HIM TO LEAVE I JUST WASN'T SURE IF IT WAS ALLOWED OR IF I WAS GOING TO GET YELLED AT FOR MORE SHIT THAT ISN'T MY FAULT.

Missing pay

I was rehired a few weeks ago and began work on a Friday, the last day of the pay period. I was not able to clock in or out because the assistant manager had not received my eid yet. The store recently had the SM, ASM, LSA, and SA quit the same day few days later another LSA and SA also left leaving two employees. So she was new to the ASM role and having to do the SM job as well, knowing she had a lot on her plate already I didn't want to add to it by hounding her over my EID. I continued to work and get retrained on closing the store while writing down my clock in and out times the DM was putting it in for me manually. So time came for me to get paid for my first day (5hours or so) and I didn't get anything so I emailed her asking about my EID so I could log in and check my paystub. That's when I learned my i9 had not been sent through correctly and needed to be resent. The DM was confused but found it and sent it in after she did that she went to put my hours in for the second pay period I had just completed, that's when we noticed my last name was not right, they had me in the system as another girl that never showed up to work at different store nearby. I am assuming she got my first paycheck? Now the ASM is brushing it off when I ask about the pay for that day, should I call ERC or try asking the DM? I don't want to piss either off or get them in trouble and then get treated differently because of that.

I shouldn't be expected to confront, watch people, or chase them out of the store when they steal. My manager told me to go out after someone today and it made me extremely uncomfortable. Most of our local thieves come in at night. Its easy to spot them and I could care less because our sm only gives us two people at night with no way to defend ourselves.
