Hi. I am looking to get a mortgage soon. What would be the ideal credit score?

Would a 700 and a 725 or 750 have a significant difference in opportunities? Also, is there such thing as a credit flat line? Meaning once you hit a certain number (800 for example) the “perks” typically remain the same the higher you go?

Progress…

So happy with my progress in under a year!! After some hardships in 2024-2025, finally got back into a better place to focus on rebuilding my credit. Happy to see that my dedication is paying off!

Is this an okay credit score for 19?

I only have my car payment and a credit card. Is this an okay credit score? I’m terrified of my credit score being bad because both of my parents have always had really bad credit and I have seen how it affects them. Is there anything I can do to make it go higher?

Credit score drop

Hello y’all, I have a question.
I’ve had my credit card for a little over 10 months. I got it after I turned 18. Up until recently, my credit score had been steady and rising, but lately it’s started to decline. I’m not sure why or what to do. I don’t have any debt, and I’ve never missed a payment, so I’m confused about the constant drop.
I read something about utilization being a factor, I’m not sure what that is, I’d really appreciate if someone explains it to me.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

lower balance question

Hey guys so I’m 18 and have a pretty short credit history. this month the cycle closed and my reports dropped by like 49 points. Why though? both balances decreased but i left $2 on one of them so they wouldn’t be at 0? why would they both drop if anything wouldn’t this make them go up?

How Can I Hit 850?!

Hey guys!

This is just a snippet of my current standing as far as my credit goes. I have a 6 credit card cycle that I use, using them once and paying them off before the due date.

The only debt I have elsewhere is my auto loan that I make extra payments on. Besides those strategies and paying on time, any tips on what I can do to get between 840-850?

Taking out personal loan to improve credit

Im coming out of bankruptcy (will be removed from my credit report soon) and im thinking of taking out a personal loan for credit building

I don’t need the loan…I have a large savings available. So I was thinking - let’s say I get approved for $20k - I’ll just reserve $20k in a HYSA while I pay off the interest difference…leave the loan open for a year or 2 to minimize the interest cost then pay it off in full

Does this make sense?

Credit score jumped and not much happened. Curious as to why such a jump.

I feel like I’m the last month no major changes have happened however my score took a major leap and I’m not sure why. Nothing fell off my report either.

Home loan

So question besides getting a preapproval is there a way to get a rough estimate of what my interest rate would be or is that just a market standard right now

At what point does your score not matter?

I’m 23 years old and I have a 80,200 credit limit across 4 cards. I finally paid down my 19k credit card debt to just 2k and I’m thinking when does a score not matter and it just becomes flexing….

massive credit score decrease from student loans

hello,

i recently paid off two of my student loans with savings from a (temporary) second job that paid me in several large lump sums. these two accounts increased the interest rate a few years ago and were the majority of my overall monthly payments despite being approximately 1/3 of the total amount i owe. i stopped paying during the pandemic because i lost my job and was taking advantage of the deferrals. i paid off the past due balance a few months ago, but i have one outstanding month because they did not adjust my income based rate after my second job ended.

i still owe much more than i would like to, but now i can comfortably make the monthly payments on the lower interest remainder once they adjust for my current income. i expected to take a 50-100 point hit on my credit score from paying off these accounts, but this month i lost over 200 points. i was in the upper mid 700s prior to this and now i am in the low 500s.

how can i build back my score? i have paid off my credit card monthly for years, save for a couple months during moves/waiting for first paychecks (3, 5 years ago) and for one month during the pandemic. my only current outstanding balance will be paid off once they correct an error that inflated the charge. i was planning on applying for another credit card soon to separate my personal expenses and my expenses for contract work, but i assume my credit is too low to get one now. is there anything else i can do in the meantime or am i just going to be stuck with bad credit for a while?

My ex wife's bankruptcy hit my credit report

I live in Colorado.

When we divorced we still had a joint card, target card, it was her card and I was the secondary on it. We both kinda forgot about it. I was the only one that used it and that was only to pay for medication at the CVS in the target.

Anyways fast forward 7 years and she fills for bankruptcy.

I find out the accounts been closed and sent to collections. The account had never been late. The card had a small balance but was in good standing. I tried talking to the card company but they basically told be I was screwed. I've filed a dispute with transunion and equifax, just those 2 so far, it hasn't posted to experian just yet. But my credit score has taken a 130 point hit and Im left to wonder if there is any way for me to fix this. I didnt fill for bankruptcy, my accounts were all in good standing. Is there any hope?

Learned a lesson when it comes to accidentally “increasing your limit”

I’ve used Varo in a pinch for deposits but noticed they had a credit builder card so decided to give it a shot.

It’s different in the sense you set the card limit but I had no idea increasing my credit balance by $3 dollars unintentionally was gonna hit me this hard.

The only reason I “increased my balance” was because I paid off my phone bill, and then immediately added money back but i guess it happened to be just a bit over my previous limit and I paid the price for it.

I am improving my credit so maybe big fluctuations like these are normal, idk…

Anything I can do or should I just take this as a lesson learned when it comes to increasing limits?

FICO - new to credit

Hello! I am new to credit and just got a credit card. I had my name attached to my mom’s for about 2 years, and I opened my own last month now that I have a new job that can support it.

My FICO score dropped significantly overnight, and I did not use my card very much at all. I am worried as I don’t want it to be affecting my life and I don’t have many people to teach me this.

My score went from 773 to 736 overnight and all I spent was $50 on a $1200 limit. Would it drop that bad? I have never missed a payment and pay every night. The score also only has thumbs ups and nothing showing that it’s dropping.

Any advice is appreciated. I want to start on the right foot with my life and don’t want to fall into a debt. Thank you :)

Help! My score literally won’t budge and I don’t know what to do.

I have made payments and tried to stay on top of everything but over the last year I haven’t been able to get my score to break 600. My credit is terrible and I just don’t know what to do…. My husband and I need to deal with this before we start our home buying/mortgage journey.

Collection on my credit for Comcast but I’ve never had Comcast

A collection from Eastern Account System recently showed up on my credit report for an alleged Comcast/Xfinity debt.

The issue is that this is not mine, and I have never had Comcast service.

I disputed it with all three credit bureaus, but all three disputes came back unsuccessful/verified.

Has anyone dealt with a similar Comcast/Eastern Account System collection that wasn’t theirs and successfully got it removed? If so, what steps worked for you?

Which site is accurate?

I'm so confused because on 3 different apps my credit score is different. For apps I have discover credit card, credit karma, and my salie mae app for my student loans. 3 different scores, there's TransUnion and Equifax with 2 different scores on karma, then Fico score on Sallie mae app, and a different Fico score on credit card. Which one is the true score I can go off of?

Off by 104 points?

My Experian score is 675, but my Transunion score is 577 and my Equifax score is 571.

It had been this way for a few months and I’ve never done one of those credit boosts on Experian.

I suspect Experian reflects the two credit cards and utility bill I paid off a few months ago, and the other sites do not. Yes, I will pull the actual reports themselves to examine more closely. But generally, has anyone seen such a wide gap persist for months on end?

Question on Late Payment Disputing

I'm financing a semi-truck and the company has a 30 day grace period before anything it reported to your credit union. I paid before the grace period, even received a confirmation email that my payment was received, but when I checked my account to make my next payment. It said my previous payment didn't go through. I found this out on the 28th day of the grace period, submitted payment again. But, they said if the payment takes longer than the remaining 2 days to process, it will come up as miss on my credit report. Is there a way I can dispute this? I have an 820 score and excellent history. It feels unfair.
