Was told I couldn't return an item

I don't have Costco membership, but I have some Costco shop cards that my sister, who is a member, gave me. In February, I used it to purchase 2 packages of hearing aid batteries for my daughters hearing aids. We have bought the Kirkland hearing aid batteries in the past and never had a problem with them. However, it seems like the new batch of batteries is now coated with a bitter taste so that children shouldn't swallow the battery, and this coating caused some of the batteries to short out in the hearing aid. So I decided to return the 2nd package of batteries that had not been opened.

When I got to the store, I explained that I did not have membership and had purchased the item with a Costco Shop card and handed them the item and the receipt. The lady said we can only do returns if you have membership and called over a manager. The manager also said this is a item 99 overrride and there is no way to return that unless you have membership.

So I called Costco customer service and they told me that is not true, as long as you have the receipt you should be able to return it and I should try to find a different manager at the store. At this point I was annoyed and asked them for the phone number for the corporate office because this was getting ridicuolous.

I was going to call them when I got home, but on the drive home I passed a 2nd Costco and decided to try the return there and see what would happen. The customer service lady calls over the manager who says, yes we can return that but it has to be returened as cash and they proceed to do the return in under 2 minutes.

I'm not sure if the manager and customer service at the first Costco were iether incompetent or just purposely didn't want to do the refund. But you would think it would be common sense, I don't know any major store in the world that won't do a refund if the customer has the receipt.

Applying to Costco but stumped on how to tailor resume due to past work experience

After graduating with a bachelor's 4 years ago, I worked in IT and then later as an admin assistant. I didn't work any retail positions, and the last non-office customer service job I had was about 8-10 years ago (I used to work as a server in a few different restaurants long ago). I'm honestly open to any positions at this point and am unsure how the hiring/candidate reviewing process looks like. Any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated.

Disrespecting customers time with their scavenger hunt agenda

I used to spend double what I do now at Costco because they waste so much of my time making me walk around trying to find the things that I came in to buy so I'd rather pay a little more at another store where the items are in the same place year after year human

I walked in to purchase this and walked out with just that one product. I don't feel okay. 😕 I'm just as shocked as you.

What’s the situation on the Costco raw chicken?

Is there still an issue with the chicken being “woody” still? I’ve usually only gotten organic chicken and haven’t really noticed what everyone was talking about it being woody.. is it only an issue with the conventional chicken? Certain cuts? Also I saw the chicken tenderloins are the “featured item” for the week, how do yall like those? Personally I go for organic chicken thighs 8 times outta 10.. but wouldn’t mind saving a few bucks if the quality is close enough.

New Citi Costco cards have incorrect member numbers

It turns out Citi Bank has been printing the wrong member numbers on their credit cards they've been printing recently.

If you got a new card and have used it when shopping, review your member number at the top and make sure it matches yours. Mine was associated with another membership and they had to manually re add the items from a purchase to my account so I got the 2%.

I'm assuming Costco is doing what they need to do to fix it but I'd definitely just be aware right now bc if you're an executive member with a new Citi card another account might be getting the purchases. Keep your receipts

I had no problem at the gas station though.

Weber Grills not made in USA??

Seems to be the unfortunate case that the Weber Grills are not made in the USA?

Are the Thailand made grills considered an inferior product? I did buy the 335E but didn’t realize until assembly that it was not domestically made. Maybe I would have considered something else. The price was good so I can’t complain there

Seasonal Tire Age Policy Change?

Has anyone run into this with Costco Tire Center?

I went in to have my seasonal tires swapped (winter/summer setup). The tires are just now 4 years old, have only about 12,000 miles on them, have been stored properly, and appear to be in very good condition—no cracking, no visible issues, plenty of tread.

The tire center was very reluctant to do the swap and told me they would do it this time, but they would “never do it again” once the tires are 5 years old.

That surprised me, because everything I’m seeing online suggests tire age alone doesn’t automatically make a tire unsafe at 5 years, especially if tread, condition, storage, and inspections are all good. I understand some manufacturers recommend inspection at 5 years and replacement around 6–10 years depending on conditions, but a blanket refusal to mount or swap at 5 years seems arbitrary.

My questions:

  • Does Costco have a formal written policy about refusing to install or swap tires at 5 years old?
  • Is this a company-wide rule, or something individual tire centers/managers may enforce differently?
  • Has anyone successfully escalated something like this or gotten a clear answer from Costco corporate?
  • If you’ve had a similar experience, what happened?

I’m not trying to be difficult—I care about safety. I’m just trying to understand whether this is an actual policy or an employee interpretation that goes beyond what’s reasonable.

Appreciate any insight.

Costco promotion expired early?

I was looking to buy a couple appliances that were on sale, it said the sale price was through 04/19. I had the items in my cart, but when I went to checkout the subtotal was a lot higher, and the promo price was not reflecting. Will Costco be able to honor the promo price?

Am I Being Cup(old) in the DMV

So does anyone in the Washington DC area know why these pictured Chinet 10oz plastic cups can be found at all the area Costco stores except for Wheaton and Gaithersburg. Is there some sort of ordinance or law in Montgomery County, MD that prohibits the sale of this item? Just curious

Be sure to check OTC expiration dates

Be sure to check expiration dates on OTC medications. Allergy meds are in the current sale circular. Last year’s bottle (of 365 tabs, 24/hour dose) expire in June this year. Glad I checked the date on the bottle I grabbed yesterday — they expire September **2026**.

I checked several others (of the AllerClear (365 count) and **all** of them expire in August or September this year.

Are there unwritten parking lot etiquette outside of common sense I don't know about?

The wife and I just finished our weekly run. We also got hotdogs and slices of pizza with the intention to eat when we got home. However, once we got in the car (still parked in our spot), we felt hungry already and decided to just sit and eat in the car before going home.

About 5 minutes after we started eating, a woman came and knocked on the driver window. She asked if we were leaving, we said 'yeah after we're done eating'. Then she raised her voice and basically said we were not supposed to eat in the parking lot and occupy a spot. Apparently she saw us loading our car and had been waiting for us to pull out (we had no idea, never saw her waiting in the row).

I didn't want to get into an argument, so I rolled up my window and disengaged with her completely. I also gestured to my wife pointing at our front and back dash cams just so the woman would see them too.

We finished our food, maybe a bit slower than usual.

Did we violate any ancient unwritten rules about not parking and eating Costco food in the Costco parking lot?

Online order - when does 30 day price adjustment window start?

Recently ordered item online (not sold in stores) that took over a week to ship, and won’t be delivered for another week (within US). Am told it will be going on sale with next round of sales. The 30 day price adjustment timeframe will be close to up when we ordered it. But we’re unclear: when does the “30 days” clock start running? Date of order, date it shipped or date actually received? Thanks!
