How good is Contrave at reducing hunger?

I just got a script from my doctor for contrave after having to stop a GLP-1 recently. Since I stopped, my weightloss has been stagnant even though I’m in a huge deficit. I don’t have much food noise or many cravings, but it seems the lack of hunger cues with a GLP-1 was what helped me lose the weight. Do you notice a lack in hunger with taking the medication and your body telling you to stop once you’ve had enough when you eat like a GLP-1, or just lack in cravings/food noise? Thanks for any info!

Thoughts: im on week 7, 6 days and ive only lost 4 pound

Hiya! I started at 12,12/3 and I’m 12,8 - I’ve had 0 symptoms. Maybe a little less hungry but not really. I eat relatively well but probs don’t exercise enough.

I’m not sure whether to stop or to order my 3rd month. The doctor suggested jabs but I’ve been on them before and I’d like to avoid and see if I can lose my last stone without jabs.

Anyway, has anyone lost much post 8 weeks or does this pill just not work for me?

Panic on Day 3

Hello. I am on my third day of one pill a day and I've had an onslaught of anxiety, nearing panic attack since this morning. I understand this as a possible side effect of the medication but as someone with a history of anxiety I suppose I just can't tell which it is. Posting to see if other newbies have recently been through this and how they coped. Thanks, this sub (and my doctor) is what gave me the confidence to try this path.

Food noise down but not weight—is Nurx 3-in-1 pill a better option?

I have been on poor mans contrave for over 6 months. I love that my food noise is way down. But struggling with the weight-loss. Has anyone added anything to this medication to help with losing the weight? I’m not ready to give up on this medication—not dealing with food noise is so damn liberating. I am in my 40s to my metabolism has slowed down and getting the weight off has not been easy. :(
Has anyone taken the Nurx 3-in-1 pill?

Cost in Australia of Contrave

Hi all,

I went on Wegovy last year and lost 18kg but gained it all back when I ceased it. Mainly because I ceased cold turkey due to the cost.

I want to try again but don’t really want to do the injections. I see Chemist Warehouse has bottle of Contrave for $250. How long does this last for? How much is the average cost per month in Australia?

Vent: husband brings home trigger foods…

Not too serious, but just frustrating….. I feel like Contrave helps me not overeat (full faster) and makes it easier to make decisions that keep me in a calorie deficit. However, there are still a few foods that are my weakness and so difficult to skip or eat just a few bites of. One of those is this smoked Gouda dip from our local grocery store, with nice crispy potato chips. My husband loves it too, and it’s often our go to treat.

I have had SUCH a good week, and he comes home with this chips and dip tonight, just because he was feeling like and we hadn’t had it in a while. I tried not having any. I tried just a few bites. And I’ve gone back to the fridge 3 times now to get more…. He’s not being rude or not thoughtful. He knows I’m watching what I eat but not to the point of “don’t bring things in the house”. He thought it be a nice surprise and fun.

I know it’s not the end of the world, and no where close to canceling out the deficit I have for the week. I try not to think of foods as good or bad, and everything is fine within moderation. But I just have no moderation with this dip!! Thank god I don’t know how to make restaurant level truffle fries with aioli at home….. haha

What website do you use to get the prescription?

I’ve been on generic Contrave for two months now (Wellbutrin and naltrexone) and got the prescription from Pomegranate Health online. They wouldn’t give me a GLP1 prescription but offered the Contrave.

I’m having a hard time with their platform though. I have to message each month to get my refill and it’s been taking days to get any kind of reply. I was hoping to increase my dose and it’s been over a week with no answer! At this point, I’m not sure I’ll be able to get my refill order in time without missing days. I’m wondering if anyone has a recommendation for an online company to use that they’ve had a positive experience with. If it makes a difference, I’m in California.

ETA: I don’t qualify for the meds from my regular doctor/insurance (BMI is right at the overweight border but not high enough for them) so I need a website that will write the prescription.

One week - how fast is too fast?

SW: 240lbs CW: 228

Hi all, this is my second time taking contrave. The first time was almost a decade ago and it was very successful for me and I lost approx 100 lbs. I didn’t gain my weight back instantly but have gradually been getting bigger and bigger until I recently hit my highest weight ever. I am now starting contrave again and have just finished week one.

My question is how do you avoid losing weight too rapidly?

My first week I have lost 12 lbs without intending to. I am eating 3 healthy sized meals a day and am doing little to no exercise because of another health issue I am currently dealing with. I am very happy that I am already seeing progress but I know it is not sustainable to continue losing weight this rapidly. Should it slow down naturally on its own or do I need to increase my calories?

I am not counting my calories but I would guess I am at about 1,500 a day and I feel full and satisfied with how much I am eating.

I searched the sub looking for this situation but I’m finding a lot of going from contrave to glp1 but not much the other way around.

So. I’m at almost 2 years on zepbound and 150lbs down. I’m right about at my goal and ready to move on to maintaining it. I have to pay oop for zep and it’s stupid expensive so after conversations with my pcp we are talking about moving from Zep to contrave for long term maintenance. I’m already on 300mg of bupropion. We were talking about adding in half a pill of naltrexone 12.5mg per day for long term use.

I’m curious if anyone else has done this and been successful? Just looking for some real life experience with this situation to help ease my mind.

Thank you!

Hi all. I had a really bad experience with a physician today trying to get Contrave prescribed and I wanted to vent about it because it was so upsetting.

This was a telehealth visit with a doc I didn’t know. For context, I am overweight but not obese (should lose ~30 pounds) with no other conditions. I suffer from severe food noise (always have) and I have an otherwise healthy lifestyle, the support I need is with cravings. And for context, I can’t tolerate GLP-1s due to gastric distress. I have no contraindications for this medication.

He* (*that should have been my first sign) approached the conversation with skepticism from the first second. I could tell immediately that he was not into the idea of prescribing me this, and was asking me question after question to essentially make me “prove” that this was a good idea.

And doubting whether I had tried dieting. Implying that I should just, like, not snack. Making me define words like “food noise” “compulsive eating” and “delayed gastric emptying” with a tone that implied he thought I was throwing around buzz words that I didn’t understand. Do you know how awkward it is to explain to somewhat what a specific example of compulsive eating / food noise looks like who doesn't understand it? Me: “so like it was the afternoon and I already ate a good lunch but then I like…ate 5 pieces of toast with jam.” Him: “…ok….?” I am actually a reasonably intelligent person who’s listened to probably 200 hours of audiobook and podcast content on nutrition and health, work in healthcare, and spend hours researching this specific drug, all to be condescended to for half an hour.

And asking me, Have I tired and accountability buddy? Are you fucking kidding me sir……..if an accountability buddy worked for me, I would be skinny by now. (Same with…nutritionist, counselor, personal trainer, labs, carb counting - he literally ask one by one if I had tried these solutions as if I was turning to a drug for the fun of it. Then furrowing his brow as if the thought of one of these tactics not working was my own personal failure). Not believing that I don’t have bulimia and asking for medical records from when I was a child (20+ years ago) to prove it.

I wish I had ended the convo after the first 10 seconds. this happened 6 hours ago and I am still shaking. UGH.

AFTER 6 WEEKS MY CRAVINGS HAVE DISAPPEARED

I am on week 6 of Contrave and since I hit the full dose 2 weeks ago my food cravings have disappeared. A week ago I went to Trader Joe's and stocked up on all kinds of salty and sweet snacks and I haven't eaten ANY of it, and this is not because I have willpower. I love to snack, and I usually HAVE to have a salty snack and a sweet snack every day or I feel anxious. I haven't felt that at all, and last night when, out of habit, I went to the kitchen to get a snack I looked at all my tasty treats and I just wasn't interested. This is unprecedented. Every other time in my life I've tried to lose weight I've been tormented with cravings and thinking about food.

I have lost 8 pounds in 6 weeks without making any real changes other than taking Contrave and trying to eat a little healthier. I did not intend to cut calories and have not denied myself any food I wanted.

( I would like to lose 75 lbs in the next year, but 50 lbs may be more realistic.)

My journey with contrave 6’1M 261lbs to 235 lbs

Been on contrave for 2 months. I’m super active from going to the gym, weight lifting 3x a week, cardio 3x a week. Plus BJJ and Muay Thai 2x a week. BJJ/muay. Contrave really helped me stay away from binging and EMPTY calories. It was So hard for me to stay way from Ranch and other dips. No more craving sweets either. My head is finally clear and free.

Hello, I am a little over a week (on day 9) into Contrave and I seriously feel no different. No bad side effects yet which is nice, except for the terrible dry mouth for sure, but I don’t really notice a change in my eating behaviors or habits. I can say that maybe at dinner I’m a little more full than I usually would be, and therefore my portion size is smaller at this time, and I’m okay with passing up an after dinner snack or treat, but I still have the food noise that everyone talks about during the day. I feel like I still want to snack all day long, and I’m still hungry throughout the day.

However I know I’m still pretty new to Contrave. Is this all normal for 9 days in? Or did you guys notice a bigger change in your diet by this point? When did it start to kick in for everyone? Trying so hard not to feel discouraged.

I tried wegovy a few months ago, I had such bad side effects I was so nauseous I couldnt leave my bed the first day. Just dizzy and feeling weak. I drank lots of water and still felt horrible all week. I even tried it again a month later and got electrolytes and protein shakes to help but it was just as bad. Would contrave be better for me? Anyone try wegovy and then switch to contrave and handle the side effects better? I'm at such a low point with bingeing I don't know what to do anymore.

also if you stop taking the pill for a day are the side effects only day of? the problem with the shit was also it lasted all week and I couldn't do anything to help with symptoms.

I’ve been on Contrave for 2 weeks. Lost maybe 5-7 pounds. All I really eat now that I’m on 2 pills a day is soup, crackers and toast with peanut butter and honey. Is it ok to just stay at the 2 pills a day until I hit a plateau maybe? I have multiple side effects but I’m ok with waiting them out. I just don’t think adding another pill right now is going to be helpful with that part.

Hello!

My refill date was April 30th. It is now May 4th and my prescription has still not been dispensed. I chatted with an agent on the getcontrave website who said it would be shipped today, but it’s now 8pm so I find that unlikely. I get mine through Upscript on getcontrave.com.

I started my last bottle April 5th, so I needed my next bottle by May 5th but clearly that isn’t happening.

Any advice? Does this happen often? Should I switch where I get my Contrave?

Thanks!

Hi everyone. I’ve been on Contrave since 1/13/2026. At first it was great - it made me completely forget about alcohol and I was finally building better eating habits and not binging. Prior to Contrave I would dabble in marijuana use, but not heavily. Since taking Contrave and quitting alcohol, it seems my urge to smoke weed/take edibles has increased. It had gotten to the point where it’s an almost every day thing that leads to binge eating at night. Getting high completely cancels out Contrave. I’ve hit my breaking point.

Obviously I need to quit this bad weed habit (I just had my first therapy session on it, and I’m really trying guys😔) but I’m also wondering if I should taper off Contrave and try a GLP-1? I’ve only lost 5 pounds all together from 1/13/2026 to today, 5/1/2026, and most of that is probably just debloating. I feel like food is completely controlling me.

Does anyone have experience switching to a GLP-1 after Contrave hit a lull?

Thank you 🙏

I was not told when I was put on contrave about avoiding high-fat meals and so I had a high-fat meal shortly before my dose yesterday and I've been feeling horrible today. Dizzy, nauseous as hell, headache. How long does this sick feeling last, typically? I want to at least be able to enjoy some of my day off. 🙃

Can I have a THC beverage while taking Contrave? A friend gave me one that he said was tasty, but I'm afraid to try it and what could possibly happen.
