Upgraded to the BenQ Screenbar Halo 2

I’m a Sales Engineer and I require equipment that will help me get through the day, whether it’s presentations, deep work, or reading. That’s why I initially purchased the BenQ Screenbar Halo a few years back.

I’ve been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to check out the Screenbar Halo 2 and I definitely have noticed improvements of its previous iteration.

Upon initial use I noticed that the control puck was USB-C powered instead of using AAA batteries which was an improvement.  When putting this on my primary monitor. (I have a dual monitor setup) I noticed that BenQ improved the clamp you used to put the light on top the monitor.

One click and BOOM!  The light comes on and illuminates a wider field of view that its predecessor which was much appreciated.  The backlight of this model was also improved illuminating more bias light.  Even though I use Philips Hue lights for additional backlighting, the additional lighting was needed.

Like the original Screenbar Halo, there's no monitor glare. The Halo 2 can be plugged into its own USB-C adapter or into your monitor, but if you do the later it may not guarantee full power to the unit so I opted for the adapter. I would also like to mention that the Halo 2 is cool to the touch so no heating compared to the first one.

For one, the controls offer more granularity in terms of how you can control the primary light and the backlight.  Just like the previous model, you can select between 2700 - 6500K, but even at 1% illumination it offers amazing light.  The previous model didn’t let you go that low.  Turning off all the other lights and cranking this at 2700K and setting it at 15% gives me a cozy setup for when I want to go down a Reddit rabbit hole or if I want to watch a few YouTube videos.

At night time when I’m doing something at the computer I keep it around 60 - 70% at 2700K

I really like the motion detector.  It not only is a “green” option as in energy saving, it makes me feel like my workstation is coming alive with me as I walk in and the light comes on.

Having a Screenbar light was a major improvement in my setup in reducing eye strain, being able to comfortably stay at my desk for hours on end, and an overall better workstation experience. Having the Screenbar Halo 2 takes it to another level and it has definitely found a permanent home in my collection.

Projector causing ground loop

Apologize if you've already read a post about this. I deleted my old posts as while I was troubleshooting i operated on a few false assumptions that I dont want to be misinformation or influence anyone about the products I am using.

I recently added an Amp to my audio system. With the amp, I get a light constant buzz of a ground loop in my main channels (the ones the Amp drives).

My troubleshooting steps, so far:

Moving the amp to another room. (No buzz)

Also moving the AVR to that room (no buzz)

Significantly Improving my rack cable management.

Testing them in the home theater with all other equipment unplugged from the AVR and power (no buzz)

I added things back in one at a time, and realized the buzz happens only when the projector is on and displaying an image. Unplugging the HDMI from my AVR to the Projector makes the buzz go away.

I connected my avr to a monitor to see if it always happens when the HDMI output is active (no buzz)

I connected that same cable to my projector (buzz returns)

Connected my projector to a new power cable (buzz returns)

Connected projector to a different outlet. This may have made it a little worse, but im not certain.

So where Im at, Im certain my projector is making my new Amp buzz; but im obviously not going to throw my projector away, I want to keep the Amp, and I wont just tolerate the buzz. Do I have any options?

The equipment list:

BenQ HT4550i

Onkyo Tx-RZ30

Emotiva BasX A3

Klipsch RP 6000fii, 504c ii, 1200sw, SF-2 as surrounds

Pannamax MR4300 power conditioners

I’m beyond frustrated right now. My Benq GW2490 monitor just went black again right after a brief power outage. The power LED is still on, but the screen is not turning on.

This is the exact same thing that happened just after 3 months of purchase, in 2024.

Last time they repaired it under warranty (took almost a month) , and after that I got an 8 socket Belkin surge protector to plug in the monitor, laptop adapter etc. I can’t believe a monitor from such a reputed brand like benq died twice from a simple power cut when my tv, 5 year old laptop (that's always plugged in) etc are fine.

Has anyone else dealt with this model being super sensitive to power outages? Is the internal PSU just garbage? I’m still under warranty but I’m tired of shipping this thing back and forth. Called benq customer care & registered a complaint & awaiting the service center's call. It's still covered in warranty, but this will most probably take another month to repair. Never gonna buy benq again!

Buy RD280UG or PD3226G

Which one for productivity? I work as a sw dev. 280ug is still not available in my country and not sure if 3:2 is worth, when scaling is needed. Size with PD is comparable and probably no scaling needed on PD. Downside is the price - 1000€

Is this massive light leak normal after a service? Shop broke my BenQ W1070 and says it’s "fine". Need advice!

Hey everyone, I need some second opinions on a repair job before I go back and demand compensation.

I have a BenQ W1070 that I’m setting up for a pitch-black home theater room. I took it to a highly-rated, 5-star local projector repair shop for a standard service to clean out some dust blobs.

When I got it back and tested it, the projector was in way worse shape:

  • Massive Light Spill Outside the Frame : There is now a huge, bright white halo/cast shooting way outside the actual projected image and bleeding heavily onto my ceiling and surrounding walls. It completely ruins the contrast in a dark room.
  • Light Leak from the vents: There is a harsh, structured beam of raw light shooting straight out of the side cooling vents onto my wall.
  • Broken Chassis: The tech broke a plastic clip on the cover, so the casing now wiggles and isn't flush.
  • Worse Dust & Smudges: The screen now looks like a snowstorm (way more dust blobs than before).

I took it back to the shop, and the technician was incredibly dismissive. He tried to stuff a random piece of sponge in the side to block the light, said a "black sponge must have ripped,". It didn't make any difference. and is now insisting that this massive light bleed is completely normal for DLP projectors.

I’ve attached the before and after pictures for reference.

For those of you who own a W1070 or do projector repairs:

  1. Is this level of unbaffled light leak normal in any way?
  2. Considering this is for a dark home theater room and the chassis is physically broken, is it acceptable work?
  3. Should I be demanding compensation for the projector at this point since he clearly did something wrong and broke the casing infront of me?

Any advice on how to handle this shop would be hugely appreciated!

I have a Benq SW272Q monitor which I use for color grading videos. I noticed very strange magenta tint spread out from the four borders of the monitor. It is very visible only when I either have a white background or something bright on the screen.

I called the support and an engineer came from their end to look at what the issue was, he acknowledged the problem and sent a report right away.

The team that is supposed to take action to address the issue is blatantly refusing any kind of help by simply stating that my monitor is perfectly functional and they will not do anything about it. This is regardless of the report that was sent to them along with a video taken by the engineer who came to inspect the monitor.

Now he is not receiving my calls. My monitor is within warranty and Benq officials refuses to honor it.

This just creates a bad impression about the company and the problems faced by an end comsumer.

Benq rd280u how is gaming?

Currently I use a 27" 1440p 144Hz monitor together with a secondary 60Hz screen and a MacBook Air. In both setups I definitely notice the difference between 60Hz and 144Hz.

I want to go back to a single-monitor setup because I had to down grade to a smaller desk and 2 monitors + macbook feels too cramped.

The BenQ RD280UG looks almost perfect for me because of the high PPI, better contrast, and 120Hz refresh rate. The problem is that it’s more expensive than I’m willing to spend on a monitor right now.

Someone nearby is selling the previous model, the RD280U, for around €300 (roughly half the price). The only thing holding me back is the 60Hz refresh rate.

My usage is probably around:

90% coding/writing/productivity

10% gaming

I game much less than I used to, and when I do it’s mainly single-player AAA games. I also have a 65" LG C5 right next to my desk, so I could always connect my PC to that for couch gaming if needed.

For people who switched back from high refresh rate to 60Hz for productivity-focused setups:

Did you get used to it again?

Does 60Hz still bother you after a while?

Would you personally sacrifice 120Hz for a better productivity-focused monitor?

I'm currently looking forward to switching to a 2k monitor from my existing FHD UW LG.

I initially found the GW2790Q and figured it has a big brother, the GW2790QT which is vertically turnable.

I know the only big differences are the QT model has a USB C support, it can be vertical and weirdly enough, the refresh rate is capped at 75hz compared to the regular Q's 100hz.

I do coding and a little graphics designing work. I see the QT being advertised as the "coding" monitor. Yet, I saw the regular Q also has the coding mode in its OSD settings. I really don't care about the ergonomic stand the QT has because I use a monitor arm anyway.

So my question is, is the QT really worth getting over the Q? Does the QT have any advantage over display quality (except the refresh rate) or stuff like that? Because, the QT's price is literally twice that of the regular Q.

It's kind of a no brainer question I know, but I wanna know if the overall experience given by the two differs by a huge margin.

I bought both the Dell U2725QE (£526.92) and the BenQ RD280UG (£599.99). No sponsorships, just my own money.

Coming from a Samsung Neo 57" VA miniLED ultrawide (which I had to RMA 3 to 4 times before finally getting a refund), I realised ultrawide just isn’t for me. Too distracting, too much head movement, and honestly just takes over your entire desk. I also care a lot about PPI and text clarity, so I wanted something smaller and sharper.

I grabbed the BenQ (s RD280ug) first when it came back in stock. First impression: 3:2 felt weird. Like genuinely awkward at the start. But the stand is insanely good, super adjustable, easy to move around, rotate, height, everything, and I think the metal greyish finish looks awesome.

Then I tried portrait mode, and that’s where it clicked.

This thing in portrait is insane. Way wider than a typical 27" in portrait and actually usable. Reading long code / docs felt super natural.

Colours though? Not amazing. They don’t “pop”. I think the heavy matte coating plays a big role here, but it's okay. I personally love the dark mode a lot.

Then I ordered the Dell U2725QE.

Set it up next to the BenQ (BenQ in portrait), and yeah instantly noticed:

  • Dell looks way better visually (colours pop, cleaner look, thin bezels)
  • but, within minutes my eyes got tired and I even got a headache

This monitor has lots of reflections, even it's marked as matte.

Even at max brightness, the Dell still reflects a lot. I’ve got a window + lamp behind me, so during the day it’s basically unavoidable. That glossy-ish finish just doesn’t work in my setup.

Meanwhile the BenQ’s nano matte coating completely kills reflections. Way more comfortable to look at for long sessions. That plus the halo light makes it feel super easy on the eyes.

So yeah… I packed the Dell back up.

Right now I’m running the BenQ as my main, and honestly considering getting a second one and running dual (one landscape + one portrait).

Didn’t expect this outcome at all, but comfort > colours for me.

In the end the BENQ 3:2 shape grew on me, and I honestly think it looks cool.

Overall I think this is a massive improvement over their older version with 1:1000 contrast, and 60 hz.. The dark color filter is my favourite to use, as I love dark mode. I thought I would return this monitor when I got it out the box because I was so used to the thin bazels of OLED monitors, while this one is chunkier, but in the end I will keep it.
