Need some advice on a Phoenix neighborhood

Helloooo-

I’m moving briefly to Phoenix at the end of summer to complete an internship during the fall semester, and will be there until the beginning of December.

The spot I’m looking at renting is very close to Phoenix Children’s Hospital, so I’m wondering if anybody can give me insights as to what that area is like and if it’s doable to live there for a few months.

I’m a 24y female, but I was also born and raised in Los Angeles, so I’ve seen my fair share of crazy sights LOL

I would appreciate any insights or advice from locals around that specific area before I confirm the rental. Thank you in advance!

west valley solo dinner ideas

This year I’m spending my birthday alone (trade off was to spend my wedding anniversary on vacation) and I already know things will not be lively and popping on a Monday night but I was looking for some local, niche ish ideas on places to eat at. I’ve been to a lot of regional sit down chains around here (like OHSO) but it’s my birthday I want to be different without traveling across the city around rush hour. Cuisine and budget or ambiance (doesn’t have to be fancy) really doesn't matter, but I do like dessert 😆

What do plus sized women wear hear during 100° weather?

My friend is looking for ideas of what to wear over a dress? She wants something to at least hit her hips or longer. (Ideally with pockets)

Nothing shorter so it doesn’t sit oddly on her body.

Any suggestions?

32f moving from Bay Area to Queen creek - tips on how to start building community

Pretty much the title, I’ve been working in tech for the last 10 years and recently lost my job. My parents have a “winter home” in Queen Creek and blessedly they are allowing me to stay there, rent free, while I regroup. I suspect this is going to be a bit of a culture shock after 10 years in San Francisco so I’m just looking for any advice..

Thanks so much in advance.

Food Delivery recommendations

Hi Yall! I arrived in downtown phoenix (near the Japanese friendship garden) today and was just notified that all my furniture (and kitchen stuff) as well as my car is delayed and won’t be here for 13 days so I will be doing a lot of DoorDash/uber eats. Please send all your favorite places to get delivery from and any other recommendations you may have. Thank you!! 😊

Midwestern neighborhood in Glendale

I am thinking of relocating to the Western U neighborhood (to do some work at he University) in Glendale. I currently live on the East Coast. I spent a few years in Tucson in the late 90s and loved it bit was never crazy about PHX because of the big city atmosphere. How different is Glendale? Is it more similar to Tucson by any chance?

Long story short, looking into something in Phoenix. But, I am totally unfamiliar with AZ.

Biggest thing I am struggling with, is where to look for housing.

See LOTS of HOAs.. and, well, if possible, I'd prefer to avoid those.

Lots of recommendations on where to live based on amenities, etc. None of that is super important.

I need at least a 2 car garage(I have a motorcycle problem), and am after a 3/2, or even a 2/2,nothing huge, as my youngest will be a freshmen next year, and my other 2 are grown, so trying to downsize. A decent high school, or available voc/tech/STEM if workable..

We live in a small town of 6k people, with not much else. Previously have lived IN other cities... doable in the right neighborhoods, just, not something Im AFTER.

I have no issue with a commute(I can do 2 hours, though Id prefer to keep it at an hour or so). Wife will be trickier, but, will cross that bridge when it is time, as she isnt even sure WHAT she wants to do.

Prefer to be within 20-30min of a grocery store.

We have lived in cities before, and I currently am based out of one.

We want nothing to do with big flashy houses, etc.

I want this to be my last move, so, I'd like to get it right.

I am planning to put a longish weekend together, and head out with her, and scope stuff out, but, if it's anything like Houston, I will certainly need direction before heading out.

Sorry being all over the place..

Id potentially be working in the vicinity of Interstates 10 and 17

And budget, I'd like to stay as far under 300k as possible. Edit, looks like Im going to have to increase threshold quite a bit..

Doubt renting a house will be suitable, I have a dog, and she is NON-negotiable

Thanks

We’re looking at moving to Gold Canyon. Are there any older homes nearby?

Would love something older, but have friends in Gold Canyon and want to be near them.

Transplants, did you like saunas before Phoenix?

I want to move to phoenix. It's everything I want in a city. The heat does concern me a little but I'll take it over freezing every day like I am currently. Saunas (160°F) are therapeutic to me so I don't really think I'll mind too much. I have lived in a tropical environment before and the humidity was what annoyed me not necessarily the temperature. I imagine now that you're somewhere with scorching high temperatures you have no desire to go inside a sauna but just wondering how it compares

Staying in Scottsdale(Phoenix) for a while — local favorites?

I’ll be staying in Scottsdale for at least 1.5 months and realized I know almost nothing about Arizona beyond a trip to Sedona a while back.

I’m originally from Korea and have lived in California for the past 5 years, so the desert scenery here already feels really new to me.

Would love recommendations for places worth visiting (around Scottsdale/Phoenix or day trips), plus local food I should try while I’m here. Open to scenic spots, local favorites, and anything that feels uniquely Arizona.

Hi everyone, I’m from Tampa and have always lived in Florida. I’m used to heat, but I know Phoenix is a different level.

I’ve been thinking about moving to Phoenix because I love road trips, camping, and hiking, and it seems really central to a lot of places like Utah, New Mexico, Colorado, California, and even Mexico. It’s less about crossing state lines and more about being close to a bunch of different climates and landscapes.

I’d be open to living somewhere smaller and closer to nature, but I need to be in a bigger city for work (community mental health therapist) so I can’t.

I talked to someone who lived in Phoenix and they said the summer heat is such an issue to the point where you basically can’t drive during the summer months, it’s rough on your car, steering wheels melting, etc. That kind of threw me off because a big reason I want to move there is for weekend road trips.

So I guess my question is, how realistic is it to do road trips out of Phoenix, especially in the summer? Is it still a good hub for that, or does the heat actually limit you a lot?

Good and bad hospitals to work at?

Hey guys I’m moving to Phoenix AZ. I have med surg/med Tele experience (neurosurgery and ortho experience from that as well) and BMT PCU experience. I only have a ASN though. I have about 2.5 years of nursing experience. What are some good hospitals to work in the area that you’d recommend if you’ve worked there? Anywhere to avoid? I plan to get BSN once my residency kicks in after a year. I’m thinking of med surg/med Tele again or going back into oncology, but I’m also keeping my mind open. Places with good ratios and good support? Thanks! My current ratios are 4-5 on my med surg/med Tele unit.

The top hospitals I’m looking at so far there are at St Joseph’s and Mayo Clinic. If anyone also has info on those or personal experience that would be great!

Hope this post is right for this sub, let me know if I need to reframe it. Title says it. I tried to gather as much info as I could. I am left with just a few. Austin get's hot and humid (100 degree nights in the summer.) I know Phoenix is hot as well. Am I set up for an easier adjustment coming from an already hot spot? I will be part of the so called silicon desert, the old school, as in an older semiconductor plant in Chandler. I will pull between 70k & 80K roughly. Will I be able to swing a two bedroom in a decent area? One last thing, in our Austin sub we love to tell people the perks and what we hate with a focus on the latter. Seems no body likes where they live. Any reason I should I not take a position Phoenix?

Hey everyone so as the title states I've (M26) been looking into visiting with my (f24) girlfriend later this year so I can gauge if Phoenix would be a good spot to stay a while, we're from Ny and both love trying new food, going to see live shows, and we both generally like going out to different bars/clubs. We're both alternative/punk so we like going to places that fit that description if there's a scene for that there. And as far as potentially moving my career is cnc machining hers is vet med, I enjoy riding motorcycles and I'm a car enthusiast as well so I'm hoping there's a good community for that. She's very much into art, museums, and different coffee shops to spend time in, and I spend mine playing pool. Any input one way or another is greatly appreciated!

Fish tacos?

Anyone know of a place with fish tacos similar to the Baja Fish chain in San Diego /Orange County? More like lightly breaded fish vs the heavy batter at Rubios, Senor Taco, etc.
