Hi everyone, I’m from Tampa and have always lived in Florida. I’m used to heat, but I know Phoenix is a different level.
I’ve been thinking about moving to Phoenix because I love road trips, camping, and hiking, and it seems really central to a lot of places like Utah, New Mexico, Colorado, California, and even Mexico. It’s less about crossing state lines and more about being close to a bunch of different climates and landscapes.
I’d be open to living somewhere smaller and closer to nature, but I need to be in a bigger city for work (community mental health therapist) so I can’t.
I talked to someone who lived in Phoenix and they said the summer heat is such an issue to the point where you basically can’t drive during the summer months, it’s rough on your car, steering wheels melting, etc. That kind of threw me off because a big reason I want to move there is for weekend road trips.
So I guess my question is, how realistic is it to do road trips out of Phoenix, especially in the summer? Is it still a good hub for that, or does the heat actually limit you a lot?
