Embolization neck vs groin

32m I’m scheduled to have a bilateral embolization in the uk. Reading through the procedure pamphlet I can see there are two potential points entry for the catheter; either the neck or the groin. This sort of surprised me because I can’t imagine how a catheter through the neck is expedient for the procedure at all.

Something about getting a catheter in my neck really makes me squeamish (I’m sure I’m not alone). For folks who have had this procedure either through the neck or the groin what was your experience like?

I’m not so sure about my sperm count or how serious my varicoceles are- I’ve experienced pain for about a decade as a result of the cycling injury, and so I was referred for the treatment to help with the pain.

These days I wear different underwear, which is helps manage my symptoms, although I do acknowledge my symptoms are likely to get worse overtime and treatment is probably a good idea at some point.

So I guess I’m coming to the other question which is given my symptoms are mild to moderate, and come and go, do you think it’s worth putting a procedure like this off or is it better to just get it over with? Right now I’m coping with my symptoms alright, and I was initially referred to find the source of the pain in case it was something very serious.

I’m pretty freaked out about the procedure going wrong in someway or another- having complications - or even just the procedure being really anxiety inducing/painful.

I appreciate there are probably a lot of people who post about this but either way I’m hoping just to get an idea of people’s experience. thanks.

What do you think about this 1922 peace dollar?

I found this at auction. I was charmed by just how worn it was. Assuming it is authentic would you consider going for a coin like this in its condition or do you pass? What’s a fair price to pay all things considered?

Calling all K7 owners

Today I was cleaning my Kingrinder K7 and noticed that one of the blades seems to be flattened out at the top. Whereas all the others seem sharp like actual “ blades”. Image 1 is the flattened “blade” and image 2 is how all the other “blades” look.

I can’t imagine this being by design - has anyone else who owns a K7 noticed the same issue?

Usually, I’m not really a stickler for little faults like this and because this isn’t a defect at the end of the burr I don’t suspect it has a huge impact on the final grind quality although I suppose it might.

Just to be sure I’m still absolutely delighted with my K7- it’s just something that I noticed and struck me as odd.

Cult coffee- Scotland

So, travelled to Glasgow for a concert and picked this washed bourbon from Oaxaca and my goodness does it smell lovely.

I told myself I wouldn’t buy anymore since I have maybe 2kg in the freezer but I had such an amazing time I kind wanted a little something to savor the trip for the next few weeks.

I had such a busy trip, so I actually only found this as I was racing to the station to leave with only about 30 mins to make it.

I went for it only off the label; washed bourbon.. apricot.. gooseberry, syrupy and sweet since I was in a rush. Then as I’m leaving just the most amazing waft of gooseberry and something even marshmallow came over me! Honestly it blew my mind. Totally made the right call.

Anyway, if you haven’t been to Glasgow I highly recommend it! I had the most splendid time and while this cofffee is from Edinburgh there are a number of Glasgow based roasters I saw who I hope to try.

I will report back with how this performs and also find out the name of the specialty coffee shop + the Glaswegian roaster I found.

Looking for a travel kit

Ages ago, I found a Gillette mini travel tech- it came in a cardboard case that was custom built for it.

Recently, I bought another Gillette mini tech because it came with a leather custom case. I thought I could restore the case but unfortunately, it seems a bit too far gone.

To be totally honest, I don’t need the case to suit the mini tech ; realistically, a full-size DE razor is small enough once it is disassembled.

Can anyone recommend a reliable case for a standard three-piece razor? Ideally something that is a new manufacturer. I certainly can’t be the only one who actually wants something like this right? There has to be a better option than buying vintage or custom.

Saturated fat in vegetable shortening- palm olein?

I recently picked up a jar of achiote paste and describes the second ingredient as “vegetable shortening-palm Olein”

In the nutritional information, it says that per 100 g of product it has 49 g of fat of which zero saturate.

I can’t help but feel like this is completely wrong based off of all the research I’m doing, but surely it is illegal for a label like this to patiently lie??

I was wondering if this is tin lined and if it needs to be re-tinned- or if something as simple as a good clean will fix it up?

FWIW I think this is made by Christian Wagner- does anyone know anything about this maker? And if this is even worth restoring?

Hey, my partner and I found this in a charity shop today. Any ideas on the collaboration or the limited nature of this make?

I found the following in an antique store.

Looking closely, I can actually see a few lion marks on some of the links, I was also able to locate makers mark a date mark, and I believe also the Assay mark (see last photo)

Being in London, I assumed that the assay mark was from the London office- resembling somewhat the London Panther- that said the age mark- which is a capital “B”, does not look like any of the ones I’ve been able to find online.

I don’t expect this necklace is too old-and I had assumed that the B was likely from 1937 if it was made in London- but because the top and the bottom of the B extended beyond and it seems a little cursive almost it was clear that it could not be the block style from 1937.. at least not from London.

One possibility is that I can see the points are on the ”side” and so it’s possible that the B is actually a lower case G or maybe an M or an N or something.

Any idea which Assay mark this might be?

And when it might’ve been made?

Hi, so l picked up this necklace on which it states "Sterling".

I do not see a lion passant, or any other hallmarks from UK assay office. That said throughout I was able to locate a different Hallmark. Because it appears a number of times I'm pretty sure it's not the makers mark.

While in some of the stamps, it would appear like these might be the London Assay panther- instead it looks more like a diamond on the left, followed by almost a boot on the right.

It is worth pointing out these hallmarks, just like UK hallmarks are incredibly small.

Does anyone recognize these?

Hey so this arrived today. Besides some spinning on my induction hob I am chuffed with the condition of this.

I am hoping to get it to working condition.

I've given it a good wash with hot water + fairy liquid + a soft nylon brush. Can I start cooking on it or should I attempt to deal with the nickel plating in the center of the pan?

I was always dubious of the inverted method. To put it simply just seemed unnecessarily dangerous.

That said, I was getting tired of the bypass -but worse, I hated how the upright method really stressed me out, I basically felt like if I didn’t get the plunger in fast enough too much of the hot water would pour out and ruin the brew. Ironically, because I was rushing, I tended to push the plunger in a bit too much, before lifting it slightly form of vacuum forcing more of the liquid out too

It was just super inconsistent and very difficult for me to quantify it.

So today I decided to try inverted and in the interest of safety, I pushed the plunger in just past the 4 mark (ie on the way to 3)

Genuinely I was shocked, I got the single best brew I ever got out of my citrus co-ferment Vietnamese Robusta. There was an alleged sugarcane note that I never could get out of this coffee, but today, I nailed it and it was absolutely delicious.

I decided to try with two other coffees- a Kenyan AA from Zabar’s and a Natural process Dominican coffee from the Ramirez estate- all three were triumphant. I’m also excited to say it was a success following the same recipe with each:

80 clicks on the K7

GB4 water from Tescos

Water two minutes off the boil

Inverted Hoffman aeropress recipe -

11g coffee

Pour up to 200ml/g

Immerse for 2 minutes

Paddle/ stir

Wait till 2:30

<flip>

Plunge till 3:00+

It seems with this recipe cooler water is working better- but I might experiment with hotter. I could also experiment with grind size but being immersion I don’t think it matters nearly as much as with pour over.

I’m pretty excited to say this will probably be my new method for now on- although I may end up getting the fellow prismo.

Some interesting Takeaways:

- I kept worrying that the flip was going to cause the plunger to pop out, but that was never the case

- the cup is noticeably sweeter- especially if I took longer when plunging (3:30-4:00 even)

- more nuanced notes come out

- I also noticed that some of the acidity is rolled off
