Any long distance runners in here? Will you keep running?

Just ran a marathon a week and a half ago only to find out I’m pregnant this week. What a fucking canon event to get into the literal best shape of my life only to get pregnant immediately after lol. No hot girl summer over here, just bloated girl summer.

Anyways, any other distance runners? Will you keep running? I’m a little nervous about overheating with the temps rising as they say to avoid super hot situations (hot tubs, heating pad, hot baths, etc). Should this be a concern? I’m trying to take advantage of the moderate temps (60s) to get my runs in while I can… did 6 easy yesterday and hoping for 8-10 this Saturday. I’m still technically in a recovery period from the marathon but I would really like to work my way back up to at least 25 to 30 miles per week with a good 12+ mile long run. I ran in my last pregnancy but no more than like 10 miles per week. I wasn’t in marathon shape, but I am now. I don’t think I ran more than 5 miles at a time in that pregnancy.

Also, I’m already signed up for an October marathon :/ and a half marathon two weeks prior as part of my taper. I would really like to still be able to do these but just not sure how I will be feeling. Would love to connect/chat with any runners.

Just found out I’m pregnant. Also just ran a marathon a week ago- can I keep my high mileage?

Hey all! Just found out I’m pregnant today!!!! And it’s extremely early, 3+2, but got a positive digital tonight.

Like the title says, I just ran a marathon a bit over a week ago. I’m still recovering of course, but I am planning to work my way back up to 25-30 miles per week. I was also hoping to run 8-10 miles this Saturday. Is there any issue with this? I will check with my doctor too. Also looking for experiences from long distance runners here. With my daughter’s pregnancy, the farthest I chose to run was 5-6 miles, like every once in a while. No more than 10 miles per week.

Additionally, I am signed up for another marathon in October as well as a half marathon during the taper. Again I will ask my doctor but has anyone run these long distances while preg?

Thanks!

Ran my first marathon on Sunday and I exceeded my goal by about 5 minutes. Ran a 4:25. I even negative split the thing. I had the freaking time of my life and enjoyed every single second. It simultaneously felt like I was a part of something bigger than myself but also doing something 100% for me and me alone. Just so many good happy feelings about the day.

But upon some further reflection, I feel I left about 5 to maybe even 10 minutes on the table. I did my first 15-18 miles at a comfortable, conversational pace with my HR hovering in 150s so nothing crazy really because I didn’t want to suffer. I wanted to enjoy. There were also big hills to be climbed in miles 5-9 so I was very conservative out of fear. HR didn’t start to exceed 160 until somewhere in the last 10k. Never did I feel out of breath likely lungs truly were at their max. My body though was obviously hurting by the time I got to 20. And it was my mind that needed to conquer the pain my body was enduring.

Idk just blah feeling like I left a bit out there! Anyone else experience this? Oh well, signed up for marine corps in October… because I think I can do better.

Just ran my first marathon on Sunday and I negative split the damn thing. I’m so happy. I’m truly astonished at how right you all were - with adrenaline, excitement, and fresh tapered legs, my average pace was a whopping 50 seconds faster than my 20 mile training run pace that put me out of commission for the rest of that weekend!

I signed up for the marine corps in October! If I do the same 18 week plan (HHN2), that puts me at a late June start for the training block. I was very happy with the plan and how it prepared me for race day. (I had the time of my freaking life, didn’t really hit a wall, sped up every mile in the last 10k. To be honest, I was probably too conservative and I think I can do better than my 4:25.) However, the first long run of the block is like 6 miles which as you all know is… not long in the grand scheme of things.

Looking for advice on where I should maintain my mileage between now and late June as well as should I drop back to a 6 mile long run as per the plan? Gut says no, run 8-10 miles minimum on the weekends (except this weekend obviously - I can still barely walk). I’m just overall unsure about how to go about this since my fitness level is still very high right now, and the start of a training block usually assumes lower mpw. So to those who have done back to back fall/spring races, how do you go about it?

Also if anyone can chime in on how they’ve enjoyed the marine corps marathon that would be great. I’ve signed up with friends. How were the crowds? Hills? (Just did flying pig, definitely not flat) was it fun? Thanks!

Chip time of 4:25.52. Miles 21-25 were all sub 10, and Mile 26 was an 8’55. Insane. On my profile you can see the splits since I can’t post pics here.

Some background:

I did HH Novice 2. Did not miss a beat except one week in Feb where I had the flu. Training had its ups and downs, there were tears and mental breakdowns for sure.

Fueled with gu’s every 40-50 minutes. Used Powerade in training and so I went with the Gatorade at the aid station.

Also I am 11 months post c-section. I got to kiss my baby girl at mile 11 which was so special!!!

My thoughts on the race:

Absolutely EXCEPTIONAL running weather. Started at 35° and ended around 55°.

I felt great for the first 17 or so miles. The Eden Park hills were not bad at all. I was shocked when they were over, thinking is that it?!? 17-20 was a lonely stretch of highway with car whizzing by. Last 10k was purely mental. Kept gaslighting myself saying that pain is not real. Prayed a whole lot lol. And then in the last half mile or so the crowds were insane! Sooo much fun! Overall, I had the fucking time of my life and I will absolutely be doing that again.

Thanks to this sub for all of the resourcefulness it has offered me. I’ve already signed up for another in October 😆

First marathon at 11 months postpartum - blew my goal out of the water! THAT WAS SO FUN!!!! IM A MARATHONER!!!!!!! Truly this sense of accomplishment is unreal, already signed up for MCM in Oct

A few notes…
- goal was 4:30 but during my peak weeks I let go of that goal cuz I was so beat down, super pleased now
- party paced the first half ish
- the hills in miles 5-10 were not bad at all in my opinion. People talked them up so much, having me scared shitless. But by mile 10, I was like… was that it?!
- felt super great mile 1-17ish
- miles 17-20 sucked, as it was just a busy stretch of highway with not much to look at and not many spectators. But at least it was flat.
- mile 24 presented me with an unexpected hill, rude
- last 10k was rough, last 5k was rougher, last 2 miles were insanely brutal, but the last 0.5 miles of people cheering certainly helped
- never could have dreamed of a sub 9 minute mile after TWENTY FIVE MILES!!!!
- realized I kinda had to pee as the gun went off, but I did not get to go 🫠
a met some nice girls who had the same time goal as me, ran with one girl from mile 8 to 20. It was nice
- kept gaslighting myself telling myself that “pain is not real” lol it was the only way. Did a whole lot of praying to St Catherine of Siena lolol telling myself to just endure.
- weather was PERFECT!!!!

Just got my trays today and of course I have a marathon this weekend. On runs even just greater than 8 miles, I drink Powerade and fuel with Gu gels. How do yall do this with trays? I know you’re not supposed to eat or have non water drinks with them in…

Can I still run with them in and eat the gels and drink Powerade? Also, my bottle is one where you have to kind of bite down on the tip to drink. Any and all tips welcome.

Like the title says, marathon is Sunday May 3rd. It is my first. I would say I did all but about 4 of the runs in the plan due to sickness. Otherwise it went well. There were ups and downs but I think I feel ready! Anyway I’m super terrified haha would love some tips/encouragement!!

Also any others running the flying pig?
