Mammoth: Buying 3-Day Pass, but is there any lifts that don't check lift tickets after 3pm ?

Buying a 3-day lift ticket at Mammoth, but I’ll be arriving the day before with maybe just ~1 hour to ski. Any legit way to get a quick feel for the mountain that evening without paying for a full extra day ticket? Not trying to game the system, just want to explore a bit and get oriented. Are there beginner areas, sightseeing options, or short-access lifts that don’t require a full ticket? Or is it basically all gated everywhere? Would appreciate any tips 🙏

Aspen buttermilk has the panda bunny hill, winter Park has galloping goose that rosers can get free. Are there any such at Mammoth?

How do you cancel the Price Lock pass in the Uber Android app? It’s surprisingly hard to find, almost like it’s been buried in the settings.

I’ve been trying to cancel the Price Lock pass in the Uber Android app, and honestly, it feels way more complicated than it should be. I went through the app multiple times, checked account settings, subscriptions, and even the wallet section, but there’s no clear or obvious option to cancel. It almost feels like the option is intentionally buried or made difficult to access. Has anyone else run into this? Where exactly is the cancellation option, and is there a straightforward way to do it without digging through half the app?

Heading to Mammoth: Buying Goggles and Helmet for the First Time. What would you recommend for intermediate skiier (male)?

I’m heading to Mammoth Mountain tomorrow and planning to pick up my first ski helmet and goggles. Since it’s my first time buying them, I’m trying to understand what actually matters, especially when it comes to style and color. For helmets, I get that fit and safety matter most, but goggles feel like a mix of function and style. Any thoughts?

Buying in Amazon since I don't have time to physically try them out before my trip. can anyone suggest links?

How to decode a complex process design Excel workbook with tonnes of circular dependencies and little documentation?

I’ve been given a set of very complex Excel workbooks as part of process design work, and I’m trying to reverse-engineer how they actually function. These files span multiple sheets, contain hundreds of variables, and have a significant number of circular dependencies. There’s some documentation, but a lot of key logic is either missing or not clearly explained. Right now, I’m essentially going cell by cell, tracing formulas across sheets to understand the underlying structure and logic. It feels more like reverse engineering a system than reviewing a spreadsheet.

A few questions I’m trying to answer:

  • What is the most effective way to map and understand deeply interconnected Excel models like this?
  • Are circular dependencies like this common in industry spreadsheets of this scale?
  • At what point does a workbook like this stop being a “spreadsheet” and become something closer to an application?
  • How do people usually document or maintain something this complex without it collapsing into unmaintainable logic?

It’s interesting work, but also quite challenging given the lack of structure and documentation from the original design. Would appreciate any advice or similar experiences from others who’ve dealt with large legacy Excel models in engineering or process design.

Honestly Excel shouldn't be used like this. The old guard won't give this up and are obsessed with making spreadsheets more complex and unusable

Passport renewal via VFS: are there alternatives to FedEx shipping?

Based in Houston

What options do I have if I don’t want to use FedEx for passport renewal? VFS is requiring FedEx during the application process, even though there’s a VFS location just two miles from me charging a ridiculous $32 for the shipping label.

It feels unreasonable that I can’t just walk in and drop off the documents in person. Is it possible to submit the application without creating a shipping label, or is that mandatory in the process?

Landing 6:30 pm at LAX, realistic to drive to Mammoth that night?

Flying from Texas

Im landing at Los Angeles International Airport around 6:30 p.m. this Thursday and will be renting a car right after. Is it realistic to drive all the way to Mammoth Mountain that same night? I’d really like to ski Friday, Saturday, and a half day Sunday. My return flight is at 1:00 a.m. on Monday (technically late Sunday night), so I’ll be driving back after skiing Sunday.

my original plan was to fly to Bishop, but there are no direct flights. and there is only 1 flight from Denver around noon

Is mammoth mountain inn the only option for ski in ski out next weekend ?!

$350/night for 3 days is a bit over my budget especially with a lot of terrain closed. I understand all ski in ski out locations are expensive , but was wondering if there is anything else that can come close for convinience and getting on lifts very quickly.

As I see from the website, eagle and canyon Lodge are closed. The village gondola is also closed, else I would have considered the village lodge, which is a bit cheaper

I do have a rental car, but just staying near the slopes with beautiful views is something I want :)

Can R be used like Excel where variables aren’t defined in order and are referenced later?

I have a very complex workbook spread across multiple sheets with a large number of dependencies between cells. In many cases, a single cell references another cell, which then references another cell, and so on. Sometimes this chain can go 20 levels deep for just one value, and I end up having to trace through all those links manually to understand how the final value is being computed.

So I am figuring out a way where I can easily understand the logic. So I am porting over those to R

I’m trying to understand whether R can be used in a way that feels more like Excel-style calculations.

In Excel, I can define formulas where:

  • a cell might reference another cell that appears later in the sheet
  • values are spread out and not necessarily defined “top to bottom”
  • dependencies are resolved automatically when everything is filled in

But in R, it seems like everything has to be defined in order (top to bottom), otherwise you get errors if a variable hasn’t been created yet.

For example, in scripts I often run into situations like:

  • I calculate something using variables that are defined later in the file
  • or I have long engineering-style formulas where inputs are scattered
  • and I end up reorganizing everything just to satisfy execution order

So my question is:

Is there a way in R to work more like Excel, where:

  • variables/formulas can be defined in any order
  • dependencies are resolved automatically
  • and everything still evaluates correctly at the end?

Or is the only real solution to strictly structure everything sequentially (or use something like a pipeline system)?

First time buying an Ikon Pass - What all should I know? Still learning to ski and starting blues

I keep seeing a message that today (April 19) is the last day for the discounted price. The Ikon Base Pass is currently showing $949. I’m still relatively new to skiing and have just started doing blue runs. I’m planning a trip to Mammoth next weekend. If I buy the pass now, can I use it there immediately? Also, is this a good deal at this stage for my skill level and plans?

Loveland/Copper or Mammoth next weekend? Mammoth is a bit of a hassle to get to, but it looks like a lot more terrain is still open. I’m planning to ski Friday and Saturday (April 24–25). Is the extra effort worth it for Mammoth, or could Loveland/Copper still be solid with the snow in the forecast?

Mammoth trip April 23–26 - still worth it after Canyon Lodge closures?

With Canyon Lodge, Canyon Express, and the Village Gondola all closing tomorrow, is it still worth visiting Mammoth next weekend (April 23–26)? I'm not sure how this affects my trip. First time going, so also wondering where people usually stay this late in the season. Any tips on lodging or which areas are best would be really helpful.

Is it possible to link a complex Excel calculation model to a Shiny app?

My Excel sheet computes vessel design parameters like diameter, height, thickness, and other dimensions based on some inputs. I want to use those outputs reactively to draw the vessel in Shiny, and ideally have it update when I change inputs in Excel. Is this feasible or am I forcing the wrong architecture?

I've done this before with all the calculations in R itself and sevvelneas drawn using some geometry libraries. It worked pretty well but now I don't want to port all the calculations to R

Flying in from Texas for Mammoth, any way to get cheaper lift tickets?

I’m planning a last-minute trip to Mammoth Mountain and will be flying in from Texas. Unfortunately, there aren’t any direct flights, so flying to Denver and then to Bishop. So it’s already turning into a bit of a trek expense. I don’t have a season pass, so lift tickets are pretty steep. Is there a way to get some discounts in tickets?

Planning to be there around April 23–26. Still a learning, sticking mostly to groomed runs and trying to improve - want to squeeze in one last trip before the season ends.

Mammoth vs. Loveland/Copper (April 23–26): Late-Season Call

Flying from Texas. One last time to practice more.. started attempting blue runs recently. Trying to decide between Mammoth Mountain and Loveland Ski Area / Copper Mountain for April 23–26. Loveland is scheduled to close on April 26, and there’s snow in the forecast throughout that window, which could make for a strong final weekend. On the other hand, Mammoth typically holds conditions well into late spring, making it a reliable option this time of year. Would you go for a potentially great closing weekend in Colorado, or play it safe with Mammoth’s more consistent late-season coverage?

If mammoth, where tools you recommend staying?

And how do the crowds compare on the weekends to Loveland/ Copper ?

Extracting all formulas from a multi-sheet Excel file into Python and understanding logic easily (best approach?)

I’m working with a large complex convoluted Excel workbook that has multiple sheets, lots of formulas, and some circular references. The goal isn’t just to read the data, but to actually understand and reconstruct the logic. Just sick and tired of going back and forth between sheets, and I keep forgetting what the logic is. so I have to start all over again

I'm currently going cell by cell and writing all the formulas so that it will be easier later on for reference as well

But I don't know of a way to extract all the formulas at once in a markdown document and develop like a map or something

I use R and Python quite a bit, Is there an easy way to extract all formulas at once and map them ?

Why are there two Galaxy S10 Plus devices showing up in my Samsung account?

One is clearly my phone, which I bought in 2019. The other one I don’t recognize at all, and it looks like it was added in December 2025. I only noticed it after logging into my account just now.

Should I just delete it? Or contact Samsung ?

When I go to Samsung find my phone , I find only my registered device

Easiest way to deploy Shiny apps without overengineering?

I’ve been building a few R Shiny apps for my company recently (some fairly complex), and now I’m trying to figure out the simplest way to deploy and share them. There seem to be too many options:

  • shinyapps.io - Posit Connect (cloud / self-hosted)
  • Docker + cloud (AWS/GCP/Azure)
  • Just running locally and sharing internally

For now, we have been running and sharing locally, which works fine. But we may also want to give this to a client in the future. What’s the lowest friction option to get something live quickly? At what point do you outgrow shinyapps.io? Is Posit Connect worth it if you're not in a big org?
