What are some cute small towns in LA?
I’m trying to find cute small towns anywhere outside of LA. Anywhere that isn’t touristy or outside of trendy typical spots. What are some places you recommend visiting?

I used to live in NYC where everyone would go to Washington square park to just smoke, chill, and get super high. Is there anywhere like this in LA? Where should i go for the best (and free) 4/20 this year!
This might be too specific. Do you guys know that scene in “Call me by your name” where they dance outside to “love my way” are there any bars or locations in LA that will play music like that or just give me the italian summer vibe. Im in the hollywood area so closer to here or within 20-30 min?
Okay, you're bored to tears in the Valley, and want to get out of the apartment. You've got $20. What do you do?
Recently lost my car and am looking for a new way of transportation. I’ve been taking public transportation and it’s not ideal a bike would really be great. Anyone selling one or getting rid of one?
Anyone ever stay at Hollywood RV Park in Van Nuys? Its got good reviews seems cool. Daydreaming of staying there month to month for a few in a tiny vintage camper.
I enjoy camping, dig the valley, and like living in small places.
I'm going to Whittier for a weekend this month and wanted to know what's a pretty good hotel to stay at?
My price range is about 200 or less and in a decent area.
Thanks in advance
Curious about attending one of the upcoming PaleyFest events. Most of their tickets seem reasonable, but before purchasing, can anyone confirm if they do rush tickets? If so, any idea when they would be listed/available for purchase?
What's up LA people - want to get some real opinions on this.
Been thinking about organizing some kind of relaxed chess gathering in the city. Nothing competitive or serious - just people meeting at coffee shop or bar to play few games and hang out. Would be welcoming for all skill levels, especially beginners who want to learn.
Before I put time in this idea, wondering:
- Would this be something you'd actually show up to?
- What would make it fun instead of weird/uncomfortable?
- Any immediate red flags that would keep you away?
Not trying to sell anything here - just checking if people would genuinely be interested in this type of thing. As fitness trainer I meet lot of people but curious about chess community specifically.
Any real feedback would be helpful, thanks.
Hey all, (27M) I’m bored at home, I’m off for a week after working so much haha I wanted to go bar hopping today, what bars can I go to where I can buy drinks and socialize?
Many thanks ☺️
I went to see a movie in AMC Santa Monica, and parked in structure-4. I drove in around 9:15 PM drove out around 12:30 AM (+1D). I paid for parking at the machine and it charged me $6. I did not get free 90 minutes as promised.
To my surprise, the exit gate is open and the ticket was not checked/scanned. So, am I not required to pay as it is too late?
This happened at Sherman Oaks galleria as well, I went to regal for a late night show, validated parking, paid $1 and the gate is open.
2 girls from Australia having a night out in silverlake - can we get some recommendations for bar hopping? maybe somewhere to start that does food- just want to be able to walk an area and try some different bars- want to chat to people, dance, dj etc
No blinkers at PED Xing on Santa Monica Blvd
OMG! There are no stop signs or blinkers at PED Xings on Santa Monica Blvd. (Close to sawtelle). This is very dangerous for pedestrians and drivers!
How do I bring it up to the authorities? There are no blinkers at some places and at some they do exist but no buttons to activate.
I moved into this first floor bungalow unit two months ago and I’ve had a lot of problems with spiders. Got a spray for those and haven’t seen them since but TODAY I just saw a (dead) cockroach in my fridge.
It wasn’t visible yesterday night, so I don’t know if it just got in or was living in it for a while.
Should I throw away everything uncovered) in my fridge or just things it might have touched (veggies/fruit still in compose bag, donuts in the donut box, etc)?
I feel so disgusted, this is my first time seeing a cockroach in tne house but it JUST had to be in the fridge.
For context, the small kitchen has an entrance door that leads to the patio. It’s small enough that when I open the fridge door, it’ll touch the patio door.
Any suggestions on next steps?
We have 1 complete and full day in June before our RCI cruise from Los Angeles. Was thinking to do a Los Angeles tour, but not a full day one. One where it doesn't start until after lunchtime.
It's so hard to navigate Viator and their tours list. They range from 3 hours to 8 hours. Some are small groups and some use huge buses. We are staying in Anaheim, so that's one issue - would have to take an Uber all the way to where most of the tours start (near Hollywood).
Do I just pick one of the "Featured" tours on Viator with decent ratings and just see how it is? Is there another company I should be looking at? Not really interested in the Hop On Hop Off bus. Or maybe there's a suggestion on what I can do alone? I have 2 kids with me - ages 11 and 9.
Dumb question but figured I'd try asking.
Later this month a friend and I are coming in from the Midwest and going to spend a night in Los Angeles then head off elsewhere for a few days to attend a convention. Any specific hotel recommendations or general location? Maybe near LAX or travel a little further out?
What free parks, or inexpensive bars or restaurants, are places which have a beautiful view and where you can sit in a comfortable chair and just stare out into the distance for a long time?
I know rhubarb isn’t native to this region, but I was wondering if anyone knew of any markets in Los Angeles that are or will be carrying rhubarb this spring? It’s my favorite spring produce and my east coast seasonal envy is strong these days 😭 I’ve found it at Trader Joe’s but it’s been hit or miss and I haven’t been thrilled with what I’ve gotten my hands on. Appreciate any leads anyone has!
In terms of clientele, vibe, etc?
Hi! I’m a late 20s gay man moving to LA and trying to decide between West Hollywood vs Santa Monica / Venice based on culture, social vibe, and what day-to-day life feels like.
I won’t know anyone when I move, so my biggest priority is finding a place where it’s relatively easy to find friends.
I like to go out and would ideally go out in WeHo at least once a month, so I’m not looking for a nightlife-centered lifestyle. But i do want a place that’s social and has things to do everyday (gym, coffee shops, explore, etc.).
I like the idea of Santa Monica / Venice because of the beaches / chill vibes, but i’m hesitant that it would make it hard to go to WeHo for nightlife or have a network of gay friends.
Can I have the best of both worlds or is truly picking the beach or WeHo culture?
Edit: I will be working around the UCLA / Westwood area
