How Do We Feel About Lytle Creek?

Anybody been shooting at Lytle Creek lately? If so, how is it and what has your experience been like there lately?

Never been, just heard of stories ranging from its the best place to shoot long range out to 600 yards in the Inland Empire, to it's absolute Fudd Town and sometimes "people", whether they're range staff or undercover LE or what have you, randomly pop in and decide to take a good look at what you're shooting...or so I've heard.

Also heard that it used to be pretty trashy and really sketchy with the clientele and the "caliber" of customers that frequented the place but that its been turned around from what it was 10 or so years ago.

So whats the consensus on them? Is it worth the hour long drive each way to go?

I've really been wanting to find a place that can go past 100 since I've finally got my 2 AR10 builds running great now, plus want to test out my 2 AR DMR builds and M16A1 clone.

Are they good to go? Worth it? Patriots or fudds? Whats the pricing and best day to go with the least amount of traffic? Would it be better to just drive a little further out to BLM land and do it yourself? Bell Mountain was my go to spot from 2019-2022 but its just such a mission to go there and set up your own targets. Plus the snakes dont make it any better. Almost stepped on a baby Mojave last time I was out there.

Let me know the low down. Thanks in advance!

Peace.

Drill Before Mill, Or After Mill Drill Each Side Separately?

I have dozens of lower builds under my belt and have just recently heard about the correct way of drilling the fcg and safety selector holes on a receiver by most professional machinists.

They are all in 95% agreement that the holes should be drilled first before milling out the lower pocket.

I have always used the 5D jig and followed their instructions on all of my builds. So I mill the pocket first, then drill each side one at a time, then all the way through on the last side so the pins will line up correctly.

My first 20 or so lowers were done on a drill press for the drilling parts, but I lost access to the legit true and trammes drill press that I was using. I've been doing my latest ones by hand and the holes have been coming out egg shaped on one side no matter how straight I keep my hand drill.

I think its time to invest in a cheap tabletop drill press and go back to that for maximum precision.

But as far as the side drilling goes, which way do you guys prefer? And why? I would be afraid of a drill getting clogged in a unmilled receiver and bits breaking off. Does it really even matter if you have a good quality jig?

Upper Identification?

Picked this up for 115 bucks on gafs. Seller said it would fit an M5 dpms style lower which is what I have, but I dont see any Aero markings. I have another complete M5 upper and it is clearly marked Aero on the receiver.

Is this an older Aero or a different brand?

I'm not mad either way, it will still work. Fits my lower fine, just no markings and curious where this came from.

How Do I Get This Out?

First time ever getting a bolt catch plunger stuck inside the blind hole and not being able to come out. The springs behind it and I can press on it but it only moves a tiny bit before it gets stuck again. Its a rounded edge so I can't get a grip on it with anything at my disposal. I've tried putting a strong magnet up to it while tapping the other side of the receiver with a mallet and its not budging.

Any ideas on how to get this out without destroying the receiver? Only thing I can think of next is to try and drill a tiny hole right down through the middle and then try to spin it out with a left hand bit. Or if it won't rotate at all, tap the hole and wiggle it out with a screw.

Please any ideas would be appreciated!

How Low Can You Go?

Is this a high or low shelf lower?

Just curious because I wanted to know if this would work with an FRT lever. If not, then how much further should I take the rear pocket down? I can get it done in 5 minutes, I just don't want to go too low and screw something else up.

What's the lowest you can go before you create an issue with the rear pocket shelf? What's the worst that could happen? Too much slop between the upper and lower?

Thanks!

Help Me Get My Primerica Accounts Rolled Somewhere Else

I need some help on getting ALL of my money out of Primerica.

I have several accounts with them, some big, some small.

I was talked into investing with them back in 2019 by a coworker. He showed me how much growth he had seen in just 4 years and I was like a fish to the lure. Honestly I'm not mad that I did it, because yes I did grow a lot of money, but it feels like I've lost a lot of money too by not doing more homework and going with a different option. I was 27 at the time and now I'll be 35 soon, so its time for no more bullshit and starting to be selfish when it comes to me and my families financial well-being and retirement.

I just recently found out about how much they are skimming off of me compared to other options like Vanguard or Fidelity.

Heres my breakdown.

\-I have 18,000 in my Roth IRA.

\-26,815 in my short term savings account.

\-77,013 in my Trad IRA (rolled over 50k from a 401k in 2019- why it hasn't grown larger since then when the numbers say my portfolio has been averaging 20% each year except for 2022, I have no idea- call me dumb)

\-And finally 9,993 in a custodian type account for my daughter for when she turns 18, or some other age if she's not ready for that kind of money 15 years from now, which is projected to be around 125k according to my Primerica guy.

\-55,000 in my wifes own Trad IRA account. She was not my wife at the time when we made this transfer, and now I'm considering pooling that into one giant account for the both of us but dont really know what to do about this in particular, so I'm open to suggestions.

Finally, I have 78k sitting in a Vanguard 401k account right now from my previous employer between 2023 and 2026.

Just started a new job that has Merrill Lynch as their 401k program, and have never dealt with Merrill before. The company doesn't match at all. Instead, we get a profit sharing of our gross for the year dumped into our ML account each December. Its been around 10% for the last few years from what I've gathered.

So with all these recent life changes, it got me looking more into Primerica and what can I do to get my money out of there and into an account that won't be skimming as much off the top as them, but still retain my aggressive plans and annual percentage performances?

What would you do if you were me? Should I leave my previous 401k with Vanguard alone since it performed so well for such a short period of time, then start fresh with Merrill? Should I roll it over to Merrill, or opt out of Merrill completely and have my profit sharing directed somewhere else like Vanguard? What do I do with all of my Primerica accounts? Where should I move them? Will I get hit with any kind of penalties from them? I have so many questions but I'm really not that smart when it comes to finances. All I know is the basic save 10% or more if you can, try to diversify, let your money make money, blah blah. I'm not the type that's constantly checking on and making changes to my portfolios. I just go aggressive on everything (for now) and forget about it.

Any and all advice is welcome. Please help me make some smarter financial decisions starting tomorrow. I'm calling Vanguard first thing in the morning and I'm gonna start asking questions.

I appreciate it!

TL;DR- any suggestions on how/where to move all of the money in my different Primerica accounts to? Im leaning towards Vanguard because of how much it grew in just 3 years. Thanks!

2nd AR10 Build Finished (Updated)

Post from a month or so ago was just the completed lower. I was able to acquire an 18" Aero FDE upper w/ Faxon gunner barrel/ AGB and a nice 1-4 Steiner on GAFS for a total of 1050, that includes complete upper and Steiner px4i with an ADM mount.

This thing slaps. And it wasn't doing any wonky shit like my first AR10 that took 10 years to dial in!

Thanks GAFS! Saved me about 750 bucks if I would've bought brand new.

2 Stage Doesn't Work

I had a 2 stage FCG thats been laying around forever and I'm honestly not even sure what brand it is because I got it at least a decade ago as a LPK but opted for a drop in.

Just recently finished a lower and put in a milspec trigger and hammer. Functions great at the range. Tonight I decided to swap over for the 2 stage since this is a 20" and I wanted to get a DMR style setup going hence trying to swap to the 2 stage.

I installed it and did a function test, it will not release the hammer with selector on fire.

Single stage works just fine, this 2 stage does not.

Any ideas?

Is An HSA Account Worth It?

I have never had an HSA account since I've never really had any major medical problems in my life. But now I am almost 35 and have a wife and 2 hear old daughter who goes to doctor and dentist check ups frequently.

I'm also planning on getting a lot of dental work done this year so that's another reason I'm looking more into an HSA.

Should I get one? How much do you usually put in per pay period? 10 bucks? 30 bucks? What all can it be used for besides co-pays? Does it roll over each year? And what if I never end up using it or have a balance left over if I leave this current job? Do I get a debit card or something?

I have so many questions. I have a few more weeks to make changes to my benefits before they lock in.

Any advice and input is greatly appreciated!

Which Handguard?

Just finished a 20" build, my first one. I wanted a 20" for a long time and decided to do retro. Found a 1980s A1 pre-ban upper online made by Dixie/Kaiser. Came with triangle A1 stock and ribbed A2 stock.

Which one slaps more? My end goal is to put an old Aimpoint on the carry handle and do a Blackhawk Down build but I kinda like the triangle stock for the vibes. Should I just keep triangle and run red dot like that?

Also, this thing fucks at the range. Super accurate. I had to almost max out the rear sight to get it zeroed but it works.

Water Damage From Upstairs Leak

Had a pipe pinhole behind the walls upstairs sometime last week and we didnt notice it until a few days had passed. Plumber made some cuts downstairs and upstairs to find and fix the leak.

Drywall crew is coming in sometime today and I just noticed that the edge of the ceiling has now separated around the entire kitchen area. Should all of this be cut out and replaced too?

We live in a townhome so we have a maintenance team and all freak accidents like this are covered under our lease. But these people seem like they do the bare minimum of work to get the repair "done".

My question is should we press them to do a legit fix on where its separating, and should we be worried about all the water damage that we don't see/ future mold growth.

We had airmovers running all weekend upstairs and downstairs to dry out the inside. But I'm not convinced that these repairs they plan on doing will be enough. Shit they won't even replace the microwave even after all that nasty subfloor water got all inside the internals of the microwave and inside the main box where you heat stuff up.

What would be the legit course of action here?

Picking up a new 365 XMacro after work tomorrow. Throwing a 507k Holosun and a Streamlight TLR 7-sub on it and looking for any good holster recommendations that aren't insanely expensive. I've already spent enough lol.

I prefer 4 o clock IWB carry with a hard plastic case with single belt clip and belt claw attached. I'm still not on the appendix carry Peter deleter bandwagon yet.

Throw out some good brands that you vouch that have good retention with a light attachment.

Thanks!

I'm trying to put this lower together and I just realized this trigger guard is way off on alignment. I pulled out a different unfinished lower and noticed that the ear tabs are machined way differently to the one I'm trying to put in. I've never seen this before and I've done quite a few lower receivers.

Can this be fixed? Do I need a sleek type of trigger guard or something? Or does the receiver or guard need to be ground down?

I'm gonna be pissed if the lower is the issue. I had this one laser engraved with a custom serial number and my name.

Please help!

I only have 150 rounds through this and my chamber is all chewed up already. It looks like this all around the circumference of the chamber. Is this normal? My other 556 ARs with 1000+ rounds don't look like this at all.

Aero bcg and Odin SS barrel/chamber.

Is the different hardness from the bolt and the chamber to blame or am I severely overgassed?

Any feedback appreciated. Thanks!

Got some steel mags that won't fit in any of my AKs.

It is really hard to lock into place, and then I have to pull the tab back as far as possible to shove it back out.

Should I file down the front or rear tab of the magazine?

I'm thinking about filing down the rear, the front fits fine. Its the rear that needs to be smacked into the latch.
