Brightness calibration on IPS monitor

What brightness settings do you use in RE4 remake or in other RE remakes (and Village)? I have quite decent IPS monitor with perfect black levels, 99% SRGB color space coverage and yet, the game doesn't feel right at default brightness calibration and i keep going back and forth between settings. I never calibrate brightness or gamma in games. Always leave that at default and it's fine, but RE games look somewhat off. I use sRGB color space btw. With rec709 the game looks even less accurate in terms of black levels and color accuracy.

edit: i forgot to mention, i'm talking about SDR and not HDR. BTW from what i have just read, it seems that RE developers don't use sRGB color space during development, but some color space used for HDR. That could explain why all recent RE games look somewhat off in SDR. It's developed with HDR as priority.

Amd software's gaming tab incorrectly (not) showing games

Some games i already uninstalled, keep showing in "gaming/games" tab in Amd Software. When i remove them manually and click on SCAN, it adds them again. If i click on LAUNCH GAME, it opens Steam and opens window, where you choose what drive you want to install on.

On the other hand. some other games are not showing automatically or when using SCAN. I can add them manually, but some functions don't work that way, like image sharpening.

I have tried factory reset, deleting game's folder in steamapps folder, using AMD CLEANUP UTILITY to remove everything and freshly installalling drivers, deleting shader cache, deleting game's config folder in users/AppData, using CCleaner to scan for issues in registry.

Any idea what is causing this?

Hi, can anybody explain how to best setup texture quality in RE games (re2, 3, 4, 7)?

Should i follow ingame vram indicator and stay out of orange/red values?

What is the difference between all those high texture options (from high 0.25gb to high 8gb)? Texture resolution seems to be same.

I watched all DF videos on RE games and many other sources online and im still confused by RE's texture options.

I have 8gb gpu, 4k resolution, all maxxed out (including shadows), medium volumetrics, no SSR, no RT.

btw all guides recommend lowering shadows to high in RE games, but i have found high to produce lot of artifacts. Especially in RE3... https://www.reddit.com/r/residentevil/comments/1t04qag/what_are_these_artifacts_in_re3/

I like to play all RE games without HUD. I like how in RE3 you can see what you pick up even with HUD disabled. That was nice improvement over RE2. That said, i really don't like how there is now way to tell what ammo you load in your grenade launcher without checking inventory. Or is there? Also, laser sights on handgun don't give you actual laser, but only red dot, if you have crosshair enabled. I liked laser sights in RE2 more. Any NOHUD players here? Do you have any tips for playing without HUD?

What is your opinion on motion blur implementation in those two games? I heard that Doom 2016 had really good implementation, superior to Eternal. Also, anybody knows, if motion blur options in Eternal (low, medium, high, ultra, nightmare, ultra nightmare) change quality or intensity?

Any RE fan here, who has properly calibrated display set at FULL RGB and figured what are the best in-game brightness settings (min, max, mid)?

I don't ever have to change gamma or brightness settings in any game. Always leave it default/middle, but all RE games are obviously too dark on default settings. It looks weird especially indoors with light sources. It looks like all lights in RE games have 5 watt light bulbs or something. I guess it's on purpose, but i would prefer more realistic and natural look.

It was less of an issue with RE 2 remake (original dx11 version), but since they implemented ray tracing, then it got even worse. Especially RE4 remake looks off no matter what color space or brightness settings i try.

If i follow in-game instructions to a letter, i end up with max -2 from max, min +1 from min, mid 0. But it doesn't seem right.

Hello, can somebody from Dolby explain how should we use Dolby HRTF in RE games like RE2, 3, 4 etc. Do those games use their own spatial audio or is their "3D" option meant to be used together with HRTF in Windows? And what in-game option should one choose? Headphones, Dolby Atmos, 5.1?

In graphics options, there is "image quality" aka supersampling option, set by default to 100% (your native resolution). You can increase (or decrease) it to combat aliasing, but with major gpu cost of course. In RE3 and 4 it works fine, but in RE2 it does nothing. Is it bugged? Does it work for you?

When i enable Anti-lag in game's profile, i can feel noticeable difference in almost all games. Games feel "faster" and more responsive, but at the cost of feeling less smooth. I read it can mess up with consistency of frame times.

Tested it in few games, when running them with unlocked fps and 99% gpu usage and with fps roughly in range of 60-100 and with VRR display. 5700XT GPU.

Did you find the same thing? Do you prefer how games feel with Anti-lag on or off?

If you have high refresh rate monitor with freesync/gsync and you play a game locked at 60 fps or unlocked and in range of cca 60-70...

do you prefer to set monitor to 60hz refresh rate in game or in windows? I know freesync already does that, but to me most games feel smoother. Not a huge difference and not every game though. I just want to check if anybody else prefers that. Also, is there some article/test comparing 60 fps/60 hz vs 60 fps/ 120 hz +? Any possible reason why it feels smoother?

PS: What about setting refresh rate in windows to 120hz instead of 144hz, so that when i play games locked at 60, its exactly x2.? Is there any benefit in that? I read somewhere, that displays like whole multiplies.
