It's been at least 15-20 years since I've played OG RE3: Nemesis. Here are my thoughts on it...

I was excited for this game because I remembered how much I loved it as a child. It was great! But from my adult perspective this game is underwhelming. By that I mean its lore. There's not much to go off. Jill and Carlos are trying to escape Racoon City before the military exterminates everyone in the city. Jill is being chased by the bioweapon: Nemesis.

Even though it had been a long time since I've played this game I chose the HARD difficulty. I'm grateful for the "rewind" option that is available for this game. (It's an option that allows the player to rewind the game. It can be a few seconds ago or much further back in the game). I died so many times against Nemesis. It became frustrating. But anytime I had a chance to fight him I chose to do so because I still remembered that it result in him dropping some new weapons or vaulable items. Well, it wasn't worth the time because I used a lot of ammo to kill him and the default weapons worked fine in the game.

On top of that, mixing two C rounds gives the Freeze Ammo for the Grenade Launcher. Using those rounds killed most of the enemies in one or two hits. They worked well on Nemesis too.

If anything, Nemesis was more of a nuisance. He was Mr. X, but on steriods.

What I did like about the game was that there were some options to choose during Nemesis' arrival. The different scenes and outcomes were intriguing and peaked my curiosity. The rewind feature that's available for this version made it easier to know which one was the better option too.

I give the game a 6.5/10. The replayability factor is not there for me. Although, I played it once more to grab all of the files. I was hoping there were some files that would keep me intrigued or give the game a better rating, but unfortunately there wasn't.

I'll be playing RE3R soon. I remember it being worse than this one. Perhaps, this time around I may have a different opinion. Maybe, I'll like it more or think they're equally the same.

Anyway, what are your thoughts on the OG RE3?

Upon further review

I was disappointed with this remake when I first played it. It’s still a far departure from the original. Replaying RE2r, I feel like that’s too much of a departure as well.

Replaying RE3r, I had a great time. It’s a fun, quick game. I encourage everyone that is struggling with it to try being confrontational (not my usual RE approach). Doing that this time around totally changed my relationship with the whole series. Fear is a choice you don’t have to give into. These games can help work through that.

Along with the choose your own adventure elements and clocktower, the most egregious miss for the RE3 remake (and the easiest to not make) is the absence of Nemesis’s tentacle dreads. That was such a cool evolution in the original. Also, what’s with the garbage bag? Just give him back his big ass Wilson’s leather trench coat.

Too many RE bosses take on hyper-asymmetrical forms. Nemesis from the original RE3 and the Mr. X double-clawed tyrant from the original RE2 are my standard for cool boss designs.

Stage 3 Nemesis

The fight is such a pain in the ass on Inferno. NEVER in my life have i seen a worse fight. It's like getting shot in the leg, then in the foot, then in the arm, then getting your nails torn out. WHO DESIGNED THIS?!

That one 5-8 combo overhead attack is BULLSHIT! How did this pass the testing? Were they high?! MOST DEFINETLY

If you think this is the best out of all the modern remakes, explain why

I think it is for a few reasons.

  1. The story and characters are more likeable overall. For me I did not mind the changes in Jill as much as I minded the changes to Leon and Claire, not to mention all the villains from RE4.
  2. Much better post game. The unlocks in this one are more interesting. You have the knife, the laser gun, the manuals and the various coins that buff you in some way. You can even unlock key items to speed up your future playthroughs. Nightmare/Inferno are simultaneously more interesting than RE2R hardcore while feeling less bullshit/poorly balanced than RE4R professional. It is simply easier to get more playthroughs of this game under your belt.
  3. Jill controls the best out of any RE Engine character. Her movement speed feels faster and dodging is satisfying to master, not to mention a more fun mechanic than parrying.

I had a close call.

I was gonna restart the whole gameplay, but I tried and continued till the last fights, and surprisingly, I managed to finish it before 1.45.

Time to beat Nightmare and Inferno.

RE3 Remake might be my guilty pleasure

So I suddenly had the urge to play RE3 remake and now I can’t stop. I was already in my second play through of RE4 remake but I just felt that kick to play RE3 remake. I can understand the flaws it has but I still very much enjoy it. How do y’all feel about RE3 remake?

Which weapons/items should I buy first from the shop?

I finished my first run, I was considering what to buy with the points, in particular I was wondering if it was better to have the pistol with infinite ammo or the samurai Edge to unlock
