How should I act in this situation?
So there is 3 girls at work - they are form the same country and mostly stay together. We have tables where we sit at everyday and you can take any table that is free even if it was used by another coworker at the same day and they left the place for a little while.
Anyways… the girls ofcourse try to stay together to chat around.
I didnt see one time that one of the girls (and the meanest one - she is also ironically the ugliest looking and most selfish out of the three - other two are a pretty and nice one and the other one is just quite chill and hardworking but nice as well).
So I kind of just quickly picked a place next to one of her friends because I was in a rush and it was closest free spot for me. The friend said nothing and I didnt even look to be honest and the mean one came out of nowhere and told me with the biggest attitude “excuse me I want to be here and I was in the toilet just for a minute”
According to the workplace rules I can pick any spot thats free - doesnt matter if the person left it for even a split second - spots are always available somewhere else.
But ofcourse coworkers kind of have a “silent / unspoken rule” to stay at the same-ish tables and I dont always remember where someone stands - this “rule” is flexible - if people occupy someones table then they just stay chill about it and pick other spot. Yet the “mean” girl always has the attitude and is not afraid to show it when she wants something.
She is always just talking to those girls. Sometimes she says hi to me or other coworkers in the mornings. And maybe talks to chosen people at work also usually just from her nationality.
Also in general she seems very complainy and bitchy all the time. Is she insecure or actually hates me? Why couldnt she just let me pick the spot? I usually was nice to her in some ways like i opened door a few times for her to when she was carrying heavy stuff though it Or soemthing and she sometimes mirrors the behaviour but in general she is just usually bitchy like that and never asks in a nice way about something.
Should I next time:
A - let her go to the spot next to her friends (I let her go there just because her friends are nice and I dont want to piss them off too, not for her attitude)
B- fight her for no reason and stay in the spot I chose to so I can gain a power dynamic over her so she can reduce her bitchyness
