hormonal anxiety

There was a period where I’d wake up in the middle of night feeling very scared over nothing at all, with a racing heart and just a horrible gut feeling that something awful was going to happen. I spent so much time online looking for reasons why this was happening - completely confused by all the information out there - and eventually began reading about what hormonal changes can do during your late 30s and into your 40s, as they often cause nighttime anxiety and problems sleeping.

What helped me the most was finding a program that put everything in simple terms and told me exactly what to do. Once I understood what was happening to me, the intensity of my fear went down tremendously.

I was afraid to go to sleep

The weirdest thing about this was that the anxiety was only happening at night. I would go to bed as normal and then wake up a couple of hours later with my heart racing and feeling really anxious. Nothing was wrong with me but in that situation my body felt like it was trying to kill me.

It happened to me enough that I began to dread going to bed every night. I kept asking myself if this was just caused by hormones, stress or a different type of problem.

Eventually, I was able to find information on perimenopause. There was a simple system available that helped me understand why this was happening to me and what I could do to change it. Learning this was really helpful and once it became clear to me that I knew what was happening with my body I felt much less frightened by it.
