I’m currently in intensive Dutch class and I cannot get why something ends in ‘s and s even though my teacher has tried explaining it. I know it’s a pronunciation thing and I know the apostrophe one is only if it ends with a klinker, but yeah. People who had trouble with it too, how did you finally get it?

A few questions about my visit!

Hoi! I’m so excited to be going to The Hague (and surrounding areas like Delft, Rotterdam, Utrecht, and Den Bosch) this week, and to be taking intensive Dutch classes during the day, and I have a few questions!

  1. I’m a law school student and so I was wondering if there are any cool things I can do or see that are law-school related? I looked up the ICC and Peace Palace websites and there are no hearings or guided tours happening on the dates that I’m there. Of course I can visit the buildings but I wanna do more than just visit the visitors’ center. So, do you have any advice? Any networking events in these areas?

  2. Can anyone recommend any places in The Hague where there’s a really cool vibe for some late night studying? I already planned to use this coworking space called Nomadz but it looks very tech-y and idk, maybe there are cafes or libraries open late night that allow laptops?

  3. I also maybe wanna get together with some people! Is there something like the Klup app, but for people in their 20s or 30s? I already know about Amigos too.

  4. Oh and how BAD are the allergies? It’s BAD here in Boston so I wanna be prepared.

Any other advice would be so appreciated. Dankjewel!!!

I FINALLY have a week off from real life (not really, I actually still have to do some remote work RIP) and I am scrambling trying to put stuff together like literally in 1-2 days I might be flying there. I've been looking for a language school that offers literally just one-week straight intensive Dutch classes. I actually found one with TaalTaal and it's like, 6 hours a day every day for a week lol. To me it feels like a lot I'm not gonna lie because I've already done intensive German classes before and it was 3 hours a day and that was enough to give me a migraine at the end of class, so do you have any other recommendations for other class in or near The Hague? Or Rotterdam? I've tried and can't find anything except what I mentioned. Thank you!

It took so long and it was so hard to get here 🥹 I’m so so happy but I’m just so anxious and scared of writing something wrong.

But okay so, their email: their first paragraph was telling me “we’re pleased to offer…”

second paragraph is like the hybrid schedule logistics AND (this is the trickiest part for me) them telling me that I’ll set up my start date with another person CCed in the email

third paragraph is just them telling me “yeah let us know by this date”

My current draft is:

Good morning,

Thank you so much. I accept (of course more fleshed out than this). I really appreciate the opportunity and look forward to working with you.

Please let me know the next steps.

Best, ———-

^ That above, plus emailing the person separately later today to let him know when I can start, is ok right?

I’m scared.

Thank you🥹🥹🥹🥹

I’ve been missing my time in Germany a lot lately like idk why, I was there for only a year in 2020, so it wasn’t like I have a huge attachment to the country but idk i miss it! 🥺 Maybe i just miss being 20 idk

like for example, i miss the FEELING of waiting to know how much Pfand money i’m getting at Rewe because I know i’ll be able to get free blutwurst.

i miss going to my German classes, people complimenting you on your German, going to government offices or calling people and sometimes laughing at each other and myself for our broken German (for me) and broken English for them

i miss going to döner kebab spots at like 11 pm at night and sitting outside and feeling the summer air

i miss eating from the food places at the Hauptbanhofs before a trip

i miss getting turkish pizza (Lahmacun) at the nearby store

i miss playing Molkky on the grass

i miss saying “entschuldigung”

i miss emailing government employees and getting the longest most thoughtful replies and when they sign out with MfG like hell yeahh MfGGGG

i miss like the few moments of relaxation i get when sorting my bottles into the different colors in my apartment building courtyard as nighttime falls

what else??? what are these little things for you???

I’m eyeing the St Regis and the Ritz, they’re pretty much the same price on the dates I wanna go. The reason the Renaissance seems off to me is really just the look of the rooms, but if you thought that it was still spectacular there, I’d love your insight as well.

I really like resorts that have direct beach access, where you don’t have to fight anyone for a sunbed, and with lots of activities whether it’s kayak rentals included in the crazy resort fees or a 3 pm cigar trying event hosted by the hotel. A safe area outside the resort will also be nice because I like going on convenience store runs.

Also, if you have any other Caribbean recommendations that are not too crazy to go to from Boston Logan, lmk!

I’m feeling pressured by someone who offered me an unpaid internship at a country that I don’t really wanna go to because I just wanna be at home just for my happiness (and mostly because I also have to pay to live there- oh and I applied to this because I was desparate and got freaked out so I just started applying everywhere), and she’s giving me until EOD to answer. I’m a law student so having an internship during the summers matter. I have an interview at a way better-paid internship tomorrow and waiting on two more results that are also better and I know for sure they’re both coming some time this week.

What do I do? I’m scared that I’ll miss this one opportunity and end up being at a worse place…
