Can a single person live comfortably on $85k here?

My only debt is my car payment that is about $150 per month. I might sometimes make $95k depending on how my business performs. I’d really like a one bedroom if possible so I can work remote but I’m worried about roaches.

Done

Done with the constant abuse, narcissism, and downright disrespectful behaviors from the clients. I’ve had to get on medication and now I’m hooked on benzodiazepines. I’m leaving accounting by the end of the year. Not sure what I’m going to do, but I know if I continue, my mental health is going to suffer even more.

Hi,

I’m currently living in Chicago and it’s not for me. I love all it has to offer but I’m not a big city person and I suffer from misphonia, meaning the sounds of the city trigger my anxiety and OCD. It’s also becoming increasingly unaffordable. I was paying $1700 plus $200 for a 500 sq ft apartment in uptown and I could barely save any money! I’m looking for a place that meets the following criteria:

\- Apartments available for $1,500 or less (I make $80k per year)
\- Mild winters (I don’t mind hot summers, just not Phoenix or Las Vegas hot)
\- Moderate politics
\- Decent gay scene for dating options
\- A decent sized Latino community
\- A convenient airport
\- Abundant Outdoor activities
\- Fit and active people and less of a drinking culture

I would love to live in Southern California but I don’t believe I can live there comfortably on $80k per year without a roommate, at least in Los Angeles and the adjoining cities. I’ve already lived in Arizona before and don’t want to go back. I think Texas could be an option. I’ve also thought about Florida and I don’t know if I can afford it.

My job is remote so finding a job isn’t an issue.

Affordable and Moderate Places for a neurodivergent gay

I’ve been working since 2017, got my CPA in 2020 and I’m currently a senior accountant making $77K. I did not work at a public accountant firm but instead started at F500 right after school. I worked as a tax preparer for two tax seasons with a small firm however but that was part-time work. $77K isn’t much these days but I know the job market sucks. I’d love to find something paying $120k.

I received feedback from my boss that I’m not vocal enough in calls. However, both him and his boss are in the calls and they do ALL the talking. Before I even have a chance to get a word in, he speaks. I told him this before several times and other co-workers have mentioned the same thing, but he doesn’t let us get a word in! I don’t think it is intentional but this feedback has but my rating (lowered it from a 4 to a 3) and it’s stunting my growth at this company. I’ve been here over 5 1/2 years and I’m honestly about to start looking for a new job over this.
