A place to make friends, listen to music and perform. We allow outside food and drinks since we are a community center not a bar or restaurant. There is no cover charge but tips to our Venmo helps us keep our lights and AC on. We also rent the venue for private parties and shows.
This is an absolute longshot and I get it being a big ask I was wondering if anybody has a working beater car laying around that they don't really use. I'm a single mom struggling to get to work. I could maybe pay $400 down and do the rest in payments. I understand this is a very far shot, but I need help and I'm hoping someone will be kind. Please no hate I'm really going through hard times
As some of you may know there’s a mass exodus from Windows to Linux right now. When Microsoft cut off support for Windows 10 in October and wouldn’t let millions of perfectly good laptops upgrade to Windows 11, it left many customers out in the cold with no option other than to buy a new laptop, or switch to Linux. Unfortunately, many people are still intimidated by it or don’t know how to install it themselves. I’m a Linux evangelist and I want to run a work shop to help people with this. What’s a good place to do it and way to get the word out? Do you think the library would let me do it there?

This very friendly cat followed us over a mile back to our house last night. We’re taking care of him, but posting to see if anyone is missing their cat. I’m based in Long Beach and getting ready to launch something called Cinema Chow. It’s a food and film concept where each meal is tied to an original short horror film.
I’m doing a small test run before officially launching and looking for a handful of people to try it out and give honest feedback on the food, packaging, and overall experience.
Menu right now is things like breakfast burritos, tikka tacos, and a few rotating items.
This will be run out of a commercial kitchen in Long Beach with pickup or delivery. Meals will be free or heavily discounted for testers.

I know we may all be struggling in this economy but I've been in a toxic living situation that prevents me from being able to save up and leave. My roommates are extremely violent with each other and any one else. I was trying to take my child out the environment because they were getting terrified and told me if I leave the house, I have 24 hours to move out. I already know it's illegal and there are laws in place to protect me or whatever. However, if I involve the police, that puts me and my child in danger that could involve gun violence and I am currently pregnant and cannot have me nor my child around any of that. I have a car and there's a shower at my college as well as possible housing assistance. 211 was not able to provide any immediate assistance and I don't know where to turn at this point. I was trying to post in an assistance reddit to ask for mutual aid, but my account doesn't fulfill the guidelines. I don't know what to post or how to even ask as I'm still processing everything. If you have anything you could offer to help me find some place safe to stay until I can get a hold of the person in charge of housing assistance at my school on Wednesday, that would be a miracle. if not, thank you for reading this anyways.
I attended Long Beach Poly . I was 1 year ahead of Snoop Dog and 1 or 2 years behind Carmen Diaz just to give you an idea of the time frame. I frequented Hartwell Park and El Dorado Park back then and NEVER saw these beautiful geese. In fact, the first time I ever laid eyes on these lovely birds was within the last 5 years at Shoreline Village area. Now I see them at Hartwell, El Dorado and around Long Beach Marina area all the time.
Where did they come from and what is the story of how they came to be in Long Beach.
Personally it is kind of a trade off blessing. I used to like the jackrabbits at Long Beach City College on Clark and Carson. But after the big remodel they all appear to be gone. So in my magical thinking mind Long Beach got these beautiful geese instead.
And just as an aside, though it is not about Long Beach per se, I had never in all my life outside of movies seen a Mega Murder. Then in 2018 I saw one in Oxnard and it blew my mind. Blocks and blocks and blocks. I have a video of it at the Google Photos link below.

Anyone notice a commerical being filmed at poly? I saw it and asked today but they were very vague about the what shoot was for.
hi all recently moved here and was originally super stoked but that quickly changed. we moved in at the start of this month, washer and dryer was on our lease but was not present upon move in with no communication from the management company. they said they would create a ticket, but did not. i spent 9am-5pm the next day calling them just getting thrown around between people. eventually they told me a third party company would reach out to me to schedule installation for either the next day or the day after. I told them I couldn't do the day after or I would lose my job, they told me tough luck. I heard nothing so I went to their in person office just to find out it was just a mailing address. I called and asked for the leasing manager and he explained the issue and got it fixed. I also had a non-functional toilet for three days until they fixed the issue. A week later I sent them a doctors note stating that I need parking accommodations, I received no follow up email. Although I called and was told they saw it, but with no written proof. A few days later I spotted a live roach, I killed it and asked for pest control. They just sent maintenance out to patch the holes in the ceiling and around the baseboards. Fast forward to right now and I found another roach!! I notice that for them to do anything I have to call them and be passive aggressive, they won't do anything if I am nice to them or just email. I'm not from around here, what do I do? I'm feeling very uncomfortable with the situation.
Unfortunately, people don’t read much anymore, but maybe somebody out there will want some of these. My mother actually has a lot more of them. I’m trying to find them and I’ll probably find them this evening. If so, I’ll take another picture if it lets me.

Tonight was a valuable lesson in keeping text alerts on for credit card purchases.
Someone placed a fraudulent order through DoorDash for Buono's pizza on Ocean with my CC information without me giving it to them. It took a single text alert for me to contact all of the Buono's to figure out which restaurant received the order, my bank to cancel the card, and DoorDash to tie things up neatly.
All Buono's were excellent at handling the situation in its entirety. They helped figure out who the fraudulent order came from/which order it was, and canceled it. DoorDash canceled the person's account, refunded me, and provided me with a case number so that I can pursue the person further.
If you happen to have a card for financial means here's your cue to turn alerts on so that you don't become a victim.

Nothing wrong with spending my lunch hour to buy some food at a Walmart and take the metro back home. Getting creative like this inspires others to handle things while life can become a little more difficult. FYI, I have a car but I leave it at work during the week because at this point I feel like im just giving away free money on gas. Any body feel the same?
